These days, Toyota is ramping up its full-EV offensive but very first plug-in Toyota was a hybrid, the Prius Plug-in, initially launched in 2012, then introduced in this second generation form in 2015 with an update three years later. It's proved to be a very credible contender in the growing market for plug-in hybrid models and can in this form run up to 34 miles on pure electric power (more than twice as far as the first generation model), with EV power up by 83% over that original car thanks to a more sophisticated Dual Motor Drive System. It's the faintly unbelievable WLTP-rated figures though, that could sell you on this car: fancy up to 235.4mpg on the combined cycle and up to 28g/km of CO2? Thought so.

This channel is a hidden gem on KZread. I’ve seen lots of their videos, they are very detailed and through and go through every little aspect of the car that a potential buyer would be interested in. Keep up the good work.

I have a 2020 Prius Plug in with 66 000 Km already, zero problems. Fabulous car, 50-60 Km electric range and after that ultra economic as hybrid, around 3.5 l/100 at 110 km/h or even less at slower speeds. Extremely well balanced with 50-50 weight distribution, quick and nimble. Very comfortable. I use the power mode when hybrid to get a response similar to the electric mode. I honestly do not understand why there are so few

Solid review but please, don’t tell people to leave it in “B” mode - that is the equivalent of engine braking and should only be used descending hills - does not contribute better regen and in fact, might hurt your overall range - use drive, and light brake pedal to engage regen without engaging the friction brakes which engage below 7 MPH i believe- interesting that here is the states we do not get power folding mirrors, nor the Wi-Fi box - and I don’t think mine has the EV City mode either - will need to check that next drive - do you not have access to the 11.8” screen? A lot of people hate it so perhaps that is a good thing - all in all, if you can plug in why lug around a Hugh battery, and if you go on long trips every now and then you have the gas motor. Love my 2022 limited, averaging 100mpg on u s gallons

Yeah... I agree 100%. So many of these Prius testers think they can regain more energy driving in the 'B' mode. They all don't understand the technics of a Prius.

I have a Prius 2020 hybrid in maroon red and it's amazing, my power mode is set to normal but I use the red power mode for motorways, the wing mirrors light Orange when traffic passes and when the car is in reverse it also beeps in traffic passes to alert me, I can't seem to find the options on the dash for the charging mode

I have a prius 2020 hybrid model and it's a very impressive car, it's got Ev Mode, power modes but no option for petrol only mode like in previous models, I'm wondering if there's an option for charging settings and the display in the windscreen to show the battery with mph

Very disappointed by that boot space. Seems the normal hybrid model might be the better option for those who need the storage space

Great car in many ways, but still a very crude way in the plugin model of mounting the battery that, despite the reviewer's comments, is mounted too high in the vehicle, costs a lot of cargo capacity, and blocks off access to the spare tyre compartment underneath which ends up as wasted empty space. (And then Toyota partner Subaru used the same battery and copied this arrangement for their Crosstrek hybrid). Will they improve this in the next generation? The regular hybrid is a far more practical vehicle with both a spare and much more cargo space, and I hope the plugin makes it there as soon as possible with at least either the spare or the extra cargo space if not both.

Thanks for this great review. I actually have this car, and I am finding it to be a great vehicle. No complaints, handling is good, power is acceptable and gas economy is excellent. Withe the government rebated the price is not that much higher than a gas vehicle.. I think in the immediate future hybrids are the right solution.

When will this car be available? Its hard to buy a new 2022 Prius. It seems that Toyota production slowed down during the pandemic and still hasn't picked up. Dealers don't have Prius models in stock. We were told it would take 12 months to receive a Prius Prime.

I just got one that someone else ordered but while they waited they found something else. I wasn’t even in the market for one but just Ed wanted to try it out, I wanted to test drive one to see if worth ordering.
