Toyota Pickup / 4Runner 22RE Throttle Body Removal/Inspection/Installation

A complete guide on how to remove, inspect, and replace a throttle body on a Toyota Pickup or 4Runner with the 22-RE engine.
A few things to note:
1. If you remove / move the actual TPS (throttle position sensor) at all (unplugging it is fine, I mean loosening it from the TB), you will have to set it again using a multimeter. There are many good guides online. The best one I found can be found at lcengineering.com/throttle-po....
2. If you are removing your throttle body to inspect the IAC Valve / TPS / Dashpot because of idling issues, first make sure that your coolant level is at the proper amount. Low coolant levels will give false readings to the coolant temperature sensor and may result in poor idle.
3. It is possible to replace the throttle body shaft seals if you have axial play in the butterfly, but it requires removing the two little screws that hold the butterfly onto the shaft. These screws are staked and will most likely strip if you try to remove them - even with the proper JIS screwdriver - unless you absolutely need to replace the butterfly or the shaft seals, I HIGHLY recommend leaving these screws alone.

Once you work with them a little bit, they are actually fun to work on it. Just gotta get familiar with the engine!

Loosen/remove rubber air boot from throttle body, unclip air filter box, remove plug from MAF...the whole thing comes off in one piece.

Thanks! I did - I just sprayed some carb cleaner and rubbed it clean with a lint-free towel.

I replaced the IACV just like you did in your previous video. My truck was perfect!!! No ISSUES!! Then my high idle came back a week later and it’s totally screwed and idling high as hell again!!! Any tips please???? Anybody?! I don’t want to sell this truck but, I’m getting so pissed off!!

When you installed the TPS after taking it off did you not use the Multimeter to reset it? You didn’t show that important part in the video… My truck is runnin odd and i’d like to know…. Thanks

Hi Mitchell - yes I did, it seemed a bit boring to show the TPS process, but there are some excellent videos on KZread showing exactly how to reset it with a multimeter.
