LAND CRUISER! the best!

Almost bought a Land Rover long ago. Talked to the one guy that had one, and he said "yeah it's definitely the ultimate off road vehicle. It's always Off the road, and on the hoist at the service department!"

+ClimbnFish Top comment, as I've been there and done that. TBH Land Rover's suspension was what I liked best about my car, followed by it's off-road capability. However, reliability or lack thereof, was the real killer with Land Rover. In my opinion and based on unpleasant experiences, I recommend 'made in Japan' vehicles.

I own the Vx v8 landcruiser from last year. It is the best buy I have made so far! It's a diesel, heavy, but the engine is so powerful that you have to pinch yourself to believe it. I love that car!

LAND CRUISER IS SIMPLY THE BEST WHEN YOU NEED MOST.

The LC is like...booooring. The GL is great in mall parking lots. The Range Rover is for those who like going to the service department every weekend.

@gantira fahreiza you are absolutely right Land Rover is the best.... at sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck to be towed to the dealership for repairs.

rich3082 I've own a '97 P38 and have done for many years and it's not gone wrong once so reliability isn't as big of an issue as you think with Land Rovers. From my experience anyway having owned 4 Range Rovers and a Discovery.

Daniel Willis I have had a L322 and it has been horrendous. It cannot be trusted for serious off road trips. I now always use the Land Cruiser.

adam mohamed OVERALL they are solid and bulletproof. Easy to fix and maintain and parts are so easy to get. However, if we are talking pure off road capabilities...LR Disco win.

Japanese Car is the best beacuse I buy Toyota Land cursier It is 10 years old but it is still working It is looking like that it is still now new

I worked as an engineer on Land Rover for 20 years. Out of these three LR are a lot more likely to give mechanical/electronic trouble. After all the rubbish cars (supported by a British Government) produced in the 1970's and 80's in the UK, Land Rover could not afford to fail. They did improve quality - just enough to find a buyer (which they did). They have always put profit higher on the list than quality - just to make the accounts look good for the current owners. Now they are just as bad - look at problems with the suspension electronics, roof leaks.... the list is long and varied. On paper, they are as good as any other luxury 4x4 SUV, but that is not much good sat at the side of a road waiting for a tow truck.

Maybe it's because you have left them that their quality has improved Clive. I've owned about 6 Prado's, a Landcruiser, and more recently three Discoveries. I've found them all to be pretty much as reliable as each other. So from my perspective, you're talking shit.

Shivanand Gunness Most people who go off road would not want to break down and be stranded, or get stuck. With the right equipment, you might be able to 'unstick' yourself, but if you suffer a mechanical fault in a modern (electronic) 4x4/SUV would you be able to fix it? Probably not. Reliability and good off road performance... Unimog or Land Cruiser are top of my list.

look at the difference in the suspension of the Merc GL and the Range Rover..the GL rolled about 30 degrees once the right rear wheel went up in the air and the range rover kept its cool. Amazing suspension that Range rover has!

Finally! A video using the Land Cruiser 200! LC200 is a monster!

@AMGrulz Yeah you're right man. A friend of mine has a Defender 90 in very good shape but he's too scared to take it off-roading because if something get's broken or damaged it's very hard to get parts for it and they're very expensive.

Wooow what a fex's on the RR, that was beautifull suspencion travel right there, pure off road.......

Got my new 4runner, love it!!! (traded my FJ) The price tag on the LC and all the luxury does not appeal to me yet. Maybe when I'm older. And yes I can afford it if I wanted one, as for the other SUV's being the off roader enthusiast that I am you will never catch me driving anything other than a Toyota. I rather get home every time than look good.

If you buy a land cruiser you will have a fully working car after and 4wd trip if you buy at landrover you most likely won't.

@siganeviil The GL as a Low-range gearbox, high adjustable suspension and center a rear locking diferentials. It is not as bad as Audi Q7, or an X5.

@Ramon25D One of my best friends has a 2004 Discovery......the number of problems he has had with it is ridiculous for a car that age. Other family and friends of family have sold theirs for the same reason. Also why would I take a chance on a new Rover, when i can buy a LandCruiser, which is famous for its reliability and durability.

Range Rover on and off road, no doubt. Only if they don't break down so often :(

@tonytsui96 Jeep Grand Cherokee - 1st (ZJ), 2nd (WJ), 3rd (WH/WK) and 4th (WH2/WK2) - Generations have NEVER had a body on frame, but they are exceptional off road.

@Areoplane7 actually it would've except it wasn't in low range, and the guy turned into the hill rather than drive straight. The rover was was in low range thats why the wheel didnt spin at 1:45 when he gave it gas.

Yeah exactly you proved his point. "smart cars are quite safe for its size" They get a good rating for an offset frontal crash but that is given good for its size. An SUV getting good in the offset frontal crash is actually protecting the occupants alot better then a smart.

Land Cruiser is Monster of the Earth .. It is truly a miracle Toyota .. And do not forget the big brother Lexus LX570 ;)

450 GL are fantastic .. very smooth ....2 important things 1. Front end suspension & 2. motor engine seals...... so when you buy one look at engine for leaks & when u drive it make sure when it hits a fricken bump it doesn't have a slight rattle😜🏁. If it does you'll pay big time...😱

In this test the winner was the Range Rover. It was the only 4x4 that did't lift a wheel in the air.

yup, It had less wheel spin overall. Thats why they only showed it briefly. Land Rover has superior traction control

Im a toyota fan..... But well impressed with the new range..... If it proves reliable it may just be the perfect car....

Which is funny when you think about it, the LC is more expensive than the GL, only the AMG is more expensive than the LC and the thing is if you put the off-road package on the GL it will go anywhere the RR or the LC will go, but neither GL, RR or anything else are tough enough to do this all day without breaking or proper maintenance.

I hate to say this but the Range Rover was the only one who didn't lift the back right tyre off the ground, it's a shame it's not reliable.

So the GL looked to be at its limit while the LC and RR still looked to have capacity remaining. RR looked to have more cap but with its reliability issues I'd go Land Cruiser. my 2 c FWIW.

Anything a Land Rover can do a Toyota Land Cruiser can do just as easy if not better!

I mean no insult or interference, but guys...chill out! 4Wheeling has a lot of fans, each one with a different car and different off-road stories to speak of...G-Class, Land Cruisers, Land Rover's models...This is a pre-set track route, take these tanks out on real conditions, they all have great capabilities...Anyway, enjoy nature whichever car you ride in!

I've seen quite a few GL's and Land Rover's in the garages around here but I hardly if ever see a Land Cruiser that needs work done. Perhaps it depends on where you live.

Landcruiser is offroad capabilities and reliance but Mercedes is design and sittin up high for no reason... :)

I've drive all of them. For offroad the Land Rover or Range Rover is the best of the bunch. The toyota landCruiser is not bad just not as refined or smooth in doing off road.

The articulation is not as good on the toyota. The LR is easier to drive off road, it is just easier.

anybody want to take on the question of reliability? ... which is pretty important with an off road vehicle ... any guesses as to which one of these will NOT leave you stranded? (hint: if it's made in Europe, you'll be waiting for the FJ100 to come pick you up)

I get you. Personally the Range Rover just looked a lot smoother on this and as if it wasn't even trying (which it wasn't).

@jakemiller5000 Well it is easier to use electric windows then manuals ones, and when you pay 70k for a car you would expect it to have electric windows.

Can't compare the mercedes and the other 2 the merc just isn't designed for off road. Designed for housewives that feel all mighty protecting her kids on the way to the shops. The most off roading she will ever do is mounting the kerb

Now I'm a Mercedes fan and I've driven a Merc off roader on a proper off road course. But the Land Rover always will win

Old lc had differential locks but the new ones have only central lock. And the traction control isn't that good compare to rangie.

Yeah Merc I think is more intergrated car than the others!

@hi11man666 - in norway, where i live, the GL 420 CDi costs over 250 000 euros, because the goverment have fees which are around 150 000 euros. So when the Merc was bought and my father drives a lot 30 000 km + a year, then you think about the fuel costs :)

I like everything the Benz is and all it can do, but something just seems off about it. It just doesn't look 'finished' if that makes any sense. In any case, there's some great vehicles here.

It's not fair for the Benz to pick the GL vs the RR or the LC. Show us the G wagen/G Klasse, instead. Range Rover all the way, though. Never a Toyota.

Annual Maintenance Fee for Yaris = $500 Annual Maintenance Fee for s320sel = $5000 Bad MPG for the s320sel also... And dont forget, s320sel is a Luxury Sedan. Yaris is just a Cheap Small Hatchback.

I know, It is really luxury the Lexus... They got so much electronics things in it... new lexus' can even park itself. Cameras everywhere etc, sensors... it's like a riding robot. But Toyota = Lexus ... it's only more / better / bigger etc... (like the rich dudes want it).

The gl and the g-wagon have the same mecaniq. The difference is that the gl look better.

Range rover looked way more at home & comfortable. Why didn't they show the range rover going up that really steep incline that the other SUV failed. Probably because it done it with such ease, that it made the others look inferior.

at least here in colombia, the toyota sahara costs nearly 300,000,000 colombian pesos, ante mercedes nearly 316,000,000 (brand new) as the toyota retains its value better it can be more expensive if you buy it used.
