I’m so glad to see people are hype for Hybrid Manual! I have a CR-Z and I really believe Honda was ahead of its time, with all the EVs coming out people are starting to see that Hybrids are the future! 1000000% I will buy top of the line Hybrid Manual MR2

Just FYI, That Altezza is one of the first Gazoo racing cars that Akio drove when he first started using the Morizo name. I might be reading into this too much, but since they viewed the MR2 through the Altezza, it could be a hint that they are thinking the MR2 will be another defining moment for the brand.

I remember getting a brochure book for a new celica that toyota was selling from the firm. It was styled as a comic and the car was yellow trd.

GR Celica and MR2 would be absolutely worth it. If they bring them back, they would be a large success.

Love to see the GR Celica and should sit above the Supra as a middle child and the GR86 is baby one, also the MR2 or GR2 sits in its own category, but yeah

Tbh toyota might as well throw that 3 cylinder turbo in like every sporty car they want more cars with that engine out there means more sftermarket support and cheaper parts and easier maintenance Imo the less engines a manufacturer offers the better the few engines they do will be

3 Cyl turbo + a rear electric motor would reasonably push an MR2 to a sub 3 sec 0-60. Maybe not from the factory, but the aftermarket will figure it out. The 3cyl hasn't been around super long, but it seems to be super durable.

I didn’t see it mentioned but in the upper right hand side of the still shot of the covered “mr2” are celiac photos . Don’t think thats a coincidence. I have a feeling they could be positioning this as a new celica/mr2 sports car. Possible 4WD mid engine car? There’s been rumors of both cars, maybe it’s actually just one.

I think it’s a new Celica to compete with the electric Cayman. I also believe there will be a new MR2 that’ll release. GR86-1.4 G16E MR2-1.4 G16E Basically a new Suzuki Cappuccino and Autozam AZ-1 Celica-EV Supra-Hybrid I’d also like to see a new Starlet and Altezza Starlet-1.4/1.6 G16E Altezza-1.4/1.6 G16E Civic Si and Type R competitors

@3:28 No, IS 200 up to the IS 300 lineup but there is no equivalent of the Altezza RS200 on the USDM.

@KirkKreifels, Toyota should hire you to make decisions for them. Though it seems like your videos are having some influence on their decisions as of late. Can’t wait for a world where we can essentially customize our cars and not have it cost anymore. No reason why it can’t be done.

Kirk, the jdm altezza had way more options for motors so not fair to assume 2jz. It had the na mr2 motor from the second gen and a beams motor. Both very cool motors. The 2jz was na so not as exciting as the Supra 2jzgte motor.

Sounds like the sw20 design if it was double but single makes it more modern either way I’m ready to see what it will be and look like on the new mr2. Really hope they come out with it

Bit over the hype of ‘toyo teasers’. The auto GR corolla, LCF and even the supra. Travelled to Japan to see the beautiful supra prototype only to be disappointed by BMW version. Better when there is the actual product like the new Lexus GX/landcruiser prado.

i know right? everyone assumes it's the MR2. i keep thinking the two renders we've seen from bestcar, previously shown by kirk, were two separate cars entirely. one's a flat back like an MR2 of old, and the other's a sportback, like the Celica lineage. it would make sense to me

Possibly, but I’d think it’d be fully electric so it could compete with the new electric 718/Cayman/Boxster (whatever it’s going to be called). Would make sense, you know instead of having a ICE and EV Supra co existing (if the rumors are true), they could just name the EV as a “Celica”. I believe we will see both a new MR2 and Celica announced soon tho.

NGL Just being a realist here, I feel like anyone who WOULD buy a Toyota Sports car already has. You got the GR86 GR Supra, and GR Corolla (I own a GR Corolla, best purchase in my life.) An MR2 would be unnecessary and would certainly not sell well in the USA. AS MUCH AS I'D LOVE TO SEE IT, it's just not there. The GR Corolla alone didn't even make it to it's targeted 6,600 units making only 5,5xx units for 2023. The GR Supra sold a total of 7,604 cars over the past 2 years. So to have a 4th sports car? Kinda madness but I would still love to see it, especially as I owned a First gen mr2 myself.

Let’s keep it a buck though, if it ends up being 100% Electric and only Electric, The Majority of MR2 Guys won’t even bat an eye at it

Just nitpicking, that Altezza probably does not have a 2jz , it most likely has the 4cyl BEAMS engine. Altezza is possibly the first GR vehicle when GR started which is why it’s probably featured here

i have also heard rumors of a next gen LFA.

The Altezza in the video (109) is Akio Toyota's Altezza from the early days of Gazoo Racing!

it might be wishful thinking, or something, i dunno. but am i the only one who thinks that maybe the two renders shown about the 'MR2' are in fact 2 separate cars? i feel like the red one could in fact be a Celica rendering, where the other is the MR2. like, think about it, if they were really getting hung up on the rear design being flat back or sport back, it would almost be a given that they would do a flat back, since literally all other MR2 models were flat back, what reason would there be to make it something different and risk the die hards crying about it, knowing how much BS they faced for doing the BMW supra. i think it would be more likely to be a flat back like it's predecessors, where they'd use the other render to represent something that was already a sportback, like the Celica. to me, it would just make sense for this to be the play. those two cars, MR2 and Celica (specifically the GT4) have been on the wishlist for die hard toyota fans for almost 20 years, with all the hype it would bring, having both come out relatively close to eachother if not simultaneously, would be pretty wild. but hey, i'm just a celica fanboy, what do i know.

Soon as driverless cars become a thing, it will be illegal or too expensive to drive your own i bet
