9:11 I can't believe they made a "Poo Throwing Hulk" toy. What a time to be alive!

I had one in the late 70's. I had him climb a few times, once my parents turned off the kitchen light so we could see the flashlight shine, that was about it.

The inaction design never troubled me: I loved having this figure!

I recieved this on my 2nd birthday back in 79. My parents even video taped me opening my presents, so I was able to see my tiny self running around trying to get an adult to help me free him from the box. The fact that I can still remember playing with him at such a young age says a lot. That it really made an impression on me. I think a lot of how people feel about them is tied to how they were able to play with them. For me our house had somewhat of a spiral stairwell leading into the basement. The ground level had an open wall above the stairs allowing you to look over a short wall down to the bottom of the stairs, or the darkness below. Enter Energized Spider-Man with his climbing action and flashlight. I had Spidey, while my brother had Superman, and we both tied an extra 10 feet of string to them in order to lower them into the basement, their tiny flashlights illuminating their descent. I can remember tying them off to run down to the darkened basement and switch on the climbing feature. It's definitely a fond memory. I also had the hulk figure that came with the break away wall. I can remember doing tests to see how much weight he could pull before it pulled him off his feet instead. I will admit niether was a fun or loved as much as Mego, but I'm glad to have had them be a part of my childhood.

I remember the Commercials and seeing them in the store. My parents didn't get them for me but I had plenty of the other cool toys from the 1970s-1980s. Adventure People, Gi Joe, Six million dollar man with Maskatron. I had a bow and arrow, slingshot, my Sears best muscle bicycle with Banana seat with tall handlebars the 1970s and 1980s were a great time to grow up!

Fantastic episode! I got the powerized Captain America for my 11th birthday. Really the coolest part was the glow in the dark shield. When I would turn off my light at bedtime I could see the glowing shield across the room. I always felt safe knowing Cap was watching over me!

Oh man. Anything you post with Spidey, I'm going to watch. As a Spider Man collector, I have been wanting this for a while. I never got it as a kid, despite my begging and pleading for one. Now as a 50 year old man, I need to finally get one in my collection.

Got this for Christmas 79, I believe. First time using it the web retracted all the way into his arm. You had one job, Energized Spider-Man! He was a useless brick from day one.

About a few months ago, I purchased a Remco Spiderman for under thirty bucks. The only accessory was the clamp. Still a good deal.

I had the Batman - I was a major Batman nut as a little boy, thanks to constant repeats of the Adam West show on UK television in the late 70s/early 80s, and I had the Corgi Batmobile, Batcycle, Batcopter, a World's Greatest Heroes Batman with a combined rubber head & cape, and the Remco Energised Batman. He went up. He went down. That was it. Bored after about two minutes. I only have one of his gauntlets now.

I had this spiderman figure and to this day I can recall the ride home from the store because I was SO bummed out because nothing moved. I think about an hour after we got home I never played with it again and it disappeared down the black hole my mother created for broken unused toys that opened up while I was at school.

I remember getting this along with the helicopter, the 12" Batman and Robin with magnetic hands, and the Hulk Rage Cage for Christmas when I was a kid. All were fun toys, and I wish I still had them as part of my collection today.

I definitely remember the TV commercials for it back in the day, but I never owned it.

I saw the ad endlessly in comic books at the time but never wanted a stiff hard plastic figure with it's arm raised like the statue of liberty.. I had had MEGO Star Trek,POTA, SWAT, Big Jim,Johnny West, Mike Power, G.I.Joe, Pulsar, and Steve Austin and Oscar Goldman so this line didn't thrill me at all. I even had Raydeen which I loved to death and got me to enjoy the Shogun Warriors comic immensely.

Every time I see the cover of your book on bootleg toys that wigged-out Hulk looks, to me, like Rosie O'Donnell.

I had the Remco Spiderman toy as a kid. Had a lot of fun with it. Its great when many companies duke it out for your toy dollar. Competition means more choice, better price.

not only did I have an energized Batman as a kid, but I have an 8-track tape of my brother and I recording what we wanted for Christmas and Energized Batman was number one on my list. I have also picked up a few of these toys off of eBay over the past few years. Fun stuff!

What a great memory to still have!

I had energized Spiderman, got it for Christmas one year. Love it, other than the fact his arms and legs didn't move.

I had the spiderman version as a kid. One of the most disappointing toys i ever had. Almost immediate regret upon opening it. Lol. I want to add i really appreciate the classy way you handle your channel. I watch this type of content to revisit a happy time in my childhood NOT to entertain immature drama from adults who should know better. Good on ya, man!

I had that spiderman toy in 78 when i was 5 loved it havent seen it since then ❤️

Had Spidey and the accessory pack. Always wanted the Goblin. Never saw one on the shelves. Had no idea Batman existed either. Great episode.

I got this for my birthday and upon finally setting the scene for Spidey to spring into action, my loving mother simply replied, "What a piece of junk!" My father didn't want me to play with a doll so no Wonder Woman until many years later.

I had a Japanese Fly Away style Superman that was made out of Diecast while growing up in Japan. Haven't seen it since 79.

[Forgive the translation / if any bad wording, or so... I wrote the original post in French] : For my part, I have a very special relationship with this toy, which I obtained in quite amusing circumstances, at home, in Paris, around 1980 (I was 8 years old). A friend, Paulo, who lived in the same street and whose parents were very modest, had found this "Energized Spider-Man" in the trash of a supermarket - where this store threw its damaged articles! Of course, he was without his box, without any accessories, even without the battery compartment door - and even worse: without the end of his left hand (if I remember correctly, it was the left arm, the one raised, at through which the nylon thread passed)... But the object, simply as an object, was magnificent. With an elegant, slender design, with shimmering colors and very good quality HARD plastic... Somehow, he looked like next-generation action figures would, don't you think? So. Even if the "real" body of Peter Parker gives the impression of being much less tall and thin, I loved this style , and I loved the mysterious aspect of his head, of his mask: much more realistic and "adult", finally, than the head and the proportions of the Spiderman Mego figure (8 inches), a little too "big-head-baby", to be honest. And then its scale was close to that of the original G.I. Joes (still widely on sale at the time, in France, under the name of "Action Joe"); making it an ideal partner for a still shelf fight scene! Even if, yes, this character without articulation had this huge flaw. Yes, I was (almost) of the opinion of my grandparents who, the previous summer, had refused to offer me such an expensive toy, because it seemed fragile, and "I already had an articulated "Homme Araignée", to play with... And yes, my young uncle, who, with only 9 years older than me, had transmitted to me all his knowledge of Super-Heroes (then later bequeathed the majority of the toys Action Joe and Big Jim of his time), also said that this "non-actionable" Spiderman had flaws unworthy of a superhero figurine, and would certainly break very quickly... But the size, the novelty , the colors, the style of this toy outweighed the reproaches that could be opposed to! This is how Paulo, months later, presents his find to me: - "Great! And where did you find that?" - "In the Monoprix bin and, you know, they don't like us rummaging through their bin. But other than that, it's new!" And it was true: clean, without any scratches or stains and, apart from the missing elements, in the condition of an absolutely new toy. I traded him this funny loot for my flexible "Capitaine Flam" (bendable Captain Future by Popy; 1980), which I had had the previous weeks, in excellent condition, and which Paulo coveted. My mother had reproached me for it, considering that the size of the two figurines was not comparable, and because Paulo's family really had very little money. But "Captain Flam" meant a lot more to Paulo than a Marvel (or DC) character who, to me, was otherwise sacred! I had a little doubt, of course, and thought that my mother could be right. If only because Paulo had a lot less toys than me... Anyway, I was still ready to exchange a broken toy for a "playable" figurine, so it counted between kids. Paulo often came to my house, we lent each other stuff, I shared mine, and at the same time we took care of his little sister, who had to be watched but who played with us, our figures and our scenarios! At the time, children could still hang out and meet in the street, that's how we became friends, between lots of children from different backgrounds and ages. I wasn't a bourgeois kid either, but Paulo was a year older than me and knew how to manage much better (notice, for example, that the Monoprix bin could conceal treasures!)... We also found the means of obtaining a little money or gifts from a guy who, on certain market days, came to sell, on Rue de Lévis (a street full of shops), toys taken out of the back of his car (a station wagon): this gentleman was mainly selling "rack toys", unsold items, withdrawn from commerce, coloring books, a few comic book magazines, etc. I say this because it was one of those magical places where you could still find Mego dolls after they disappeared from department stores. Of course, they were found without box, or in damaged boxes (but still "new"), like "the JOR-EL that nobody wants" (!), some Corgi vehicles, Matchbox, etc. AND cheap. This gentleman reminded me slightly of Stromboli in Pinocchio... In short, we helped this somewhat odd seller to tidy up his stall, to put everything back in his boxes after the market, and he SOMETIMES offered us something. A toy, a comic book, a small coin... Legend says that one of us even had 10 francs once (like one 1980 dollar), but I don't know if we believed him! Yes, it's a bit like in a Spielberg's movie. Much less scary than Stranger Things but as exciting, maybe, as the Goonies. As Paulo came from Portugal, he had some figures that I saw more rarely in France, such as the Matchbox Pirates, the famous AIRGAM BOYS and co. And, as in Italy and Spain, Portuguese children were much more familiar with Japanese series, including those from the firm TOEI, POPY toys (Bandai), and other incredible toys such as GEYPER MAN and Madelman accessories. In short, Paulo enjoyed his "Captain Flam" and I kept this Remco Spiderman all my life - with some remains of MEGO, MOTU, Big Jim, Action Force (incredible and easier to accumulate), Kenner S.W., Action Man, Corgi, Mattel Secret Wars, and all the small world of this time. After getting 18, I started to find and collect the same toys, especially following the release of Burton's BATMAN - THE movie I had never dared to dream of! From there, I couldn't help but start accumulating pieces relating to my favorite characters again, rare or cheap, new or loose, old and new (notably Batman Kenner TAS), then found and (sometimes) repaired my good old Action Joe mannequins (toys sellers used to say "mannequin" for action figure, those days). Thus, I became the specialist of my entourage in "toys and cartoons of our childhood" = the opportunity to say innocently to my friends "Hey! you wouldn't have an old "Big Jim Spiderman" left in your cupboard... ?" Ha ha ha! What a crook! N.B.: in France, the toys "for boys" that marked the end of the 70s the most were BIG JIM. We therefore spoke of "Big-Jim-Spiderman" or "Big-Jim-Batman", to describe a Mego character... I learned the term "Mego" later, in the 90s, at the resellers on after-market, or in comic book import stores or magazines such as TOYFARE, AFT & M. In 1989, i bought a WGSH Penguin / new in blister, in Paris, for 100 francs (10 dollars?): as on any french blister, the label on it mentionned "Pin Pin Toys", that seemed more evident than to notice the MEGO logo to me... Back in 1990, when, during a trip to New York, I saw for the first time "in real life" almost ALL the Mego WGSHs that had NEVER been marketed in France (in particular most of MARVEL characters), I hadn't really remembered the name of the famous firm (and even less REMCO). For the budget at my disposal, on the other hand, I had been able to acquire lots of new DC HEROES / Toy Biz figurines in N.Y., which consoled me a little for not having known the SUPER POWERS brand in my childhood... The story of my old REMCO Spiderman does not end there, for me, alas! About 30 years later, around 2018, we went with my father to pick up a whole bunch of stuff stored with friends of his for a long time. I know my stuff by heart, and I have kind of SPIDER-SENSE when something is missing - at least a good memory for the order and appearance of things I had to put away years old. Well, everything was there, apparently, but I had a strange feeling and unfortunately we didn't have time to open all these boxes already made and sealed; especially when my father surprised me at 2 am checking to see if my books, records, VHS tapes, posters, souvenirs, my "childhood friends" and their fantastic vehicles were all there (yes, almost 50 years old as i am!)! And that's how, counting down after the move, I discovered that THE box was missing. Of all the boxes, the BEST box, the one in which I had carefully packed a hundred pieces, ALL of the best = ALL my Mego figures bought as adults, those left over from my childhood, like ALL my ACTION FORCE, Kenner Star Wars, Marvel SW, DC Heroes, Kenner S.Powers, Batman TAS, Kenner ALIEN, AIRGAM BOYS, and... MY REMCO SPIDEY! Even without his left hand, in the state in which Paulo had given it to me, and even if I ever find a vintage copy, it was - and it will never be again - MY "climbing" Spiderman (which has never worked, of course). Here. Thank you Toy-Ventures for all the lovely content and exciting research on the way to the ultimate toy, on behalf of all lost/found/re-lost toys. Thank you, i'll keep watching your next videos - I hope one day to take time to order your great books too! PS: the proximity survey a.k.a. family investigation did not give anything. I found everything else (still a lot of Big Jim, AJ, my Zargon-in-box, some PVC figures, etc.) EXCEPT the main carton, the treasure, the MASTERPIECE. Conclusion: someone from our friends' entourage probably stole it, which is crazy and improbable, when you think about it (you have to believe that the value of these trinkets is now well known). I absolutely love you and your knowledge, presentation and fun for the best Era in toys. I had this as a kid. Mine was different. My head didn't turn, and you had to press and hold a metal button which killed your thumb or finger. But that's how you made it go. They made then repackaged this Spiderman afew times. To make it look different, but it generally was the same toy. I also had the copter but that to I think was different. Omg the 70s toys, the best. A magical memory for me, maybe you as well, do you remember kiddie city the toy store? They had everything great there. Star trek, star wars, mego, barbie, everything. When star wars came out, kiddie city had the toy figures weeks before the movie came out. I remember they had the star trek the motion picture phaser battle gun set behind glass. You had to ask to sew it. Great times. If you remember kiddie city, any chance of doing a video? I don't collect anymore, but I'd love to know what your favorite toy line Is if you collect. You would be so great as a neighbor to just get together and talk all day about toys from yesteryear. Greg

I had this Spider-Man and the gimmick tired really quickly. I really don't remember the flashlight part and probably lost that after opening the box. The most played with item in the box... was the rubber spider web. This got so much more play time with my other articulated action figures. That rubber web was the best part of this toy.

So that's what it was called! I had the Energized Spider-Man growing up when I turned 3 or 4. I remember not climbing very fast, unfortunately. But the figure was great.

I used to have the Energized Spiderman as a kid. I wish I still had it.

I had the Batman and the Spider-Man ones when I was a kid...and you're right. They did get boring pretty quickly. Once you made them climb their rope a few times, there was very little to do with them afterwards.

I remember always being puzzled why they didn't have ANY articulation. Thanks for explaining it. It always made the figures seem kind of lame. We wanted those features, but with the ability to at least move the arms and legs a bit.

I had 2 of these at one point. The Green Goblin was nearly impossible to find. I also had the helicopter. In 1978, this was a must have. My Spidey nostalgia sense started tingling when I saw this video. Ah, those were the days...

your wife's just handling her producer role with professionalism! it has tons of retro kitsch appeal, but i was an articulation snob as a kid. i was also dumb, so i'd have probably bought it anyway.

Never had Energized Spider-Man, but I totally used the Web Trap with my Mego Spidey :)

As far as I know it didn’t make it to our South African shores back in the day however I did buy a childhood toy collection from a keen local collector about 18 years ago and in the lot was a single Spider-Man foot/boot which is now proudly in my collection ☺️ As I doubt I’d ever find one of these here. But you never know 🤞 as over the years certain AHI and Remco superhero figures and toy cars do pop up from time to time and I myself remember the famous batmobiles were available here in the late 1970s and early 1980s on our toy shelves in supermarkets and small toy shops.

I was definitely aware of these types of figures, but Mego sated my appetite for superheroes with 8" and Comic Action Heroes.

I never had any of the Remco Energized Super Heroes as a kid, but I do remember that Energized SpiderMan and Energized Superman had TV commercials. Being more of a DC fan, I would have loved to have had the Remco Energized Batman and Superman figurines. One thing I loved about them was the same thing I love ved about the AHI parachutist figurines. I loved the transparent plastic capes. The Remco Energized Batman figurine is an example of the kind of Batman toys that I wish they could have made a Robin figurine. I would have loved a Remco Energized Robin figurine. He would have gone well with the Energized Batman. Also, I would have painted Batman's trunks in a matching blue, just like the AHI Batman parachutist figurine. This is a great video. You ought to do a video on the AHI parachutist figurines.

I remember seeing the ads for this version of Spidey on TV. Since it was very clear that the figure had zero articulation, thanks to his arm being fixed over his head, I had no real interest in it. The price point didn't do it any favors either, since I could get several Star Wars figures for the price of one Energized Spider-Man. I did get the Mego Pocket Heroes version of Spider-Man.

I got one of these for Christmas! I had wanted it soooo bad! Christmas came and my ESM didn’t even work! My parents never returned it to the store, so I never got a chance to see him climb.

I remember this as a kid. Even then I couldn’t be sold on a fully unarticulated toy and never owned any of these figures. I remember actually having a negative impression of the company because of this. I was actually angry that they did such a good looking figure that was basically just a statue.

i have had my energized spider-man and the copter since Christmas of 1978 and i still love it. didn't play with it much as a kid, the toy did not live up to the wow! factor of the commercials but still a great toy. i have 3 eg spider-mans, one in box, one lose and one spider sense and well as a boxed web trap. i have long wanted the green goblin to complete the set.

I got one of these for Christmas when I was four years old (around 1980). I never bothered to have anyone get batteries for it only played with it like an action figure.

I've actually seen a loose energize Green Goblin at an Antique Mall. It was 50 bucks and it didn't have any of him his accessories

This needs to be the next movie version of Spider-Man That and the one mentioned in Friends, Phil Spiderman

Yeah it probably is quite repairable.

I remember it in the com-x book ads( you show one in the vid),but to be fair..Never been a Spidy fan. I had a Mego Spidy as a kid in the 70's and even had a few com-x back then. I was more of a Cap,Iron-Man,Yellow Jacket, and the Fantastic 4 marvel kid. GREAT VID!!

I remember seeing these, but never had one. Never needed it. If I wanted my figures to climb, I'd tie a piece of string to them or something. If I wanted a figure to parachute, well, a handkerchief and rubber bands or a grocery bag sufficed. Also, great screw hole placement on Spidey's rear, Remco. This might be one to send off to Toy Polloi and see if he can maybe fix it. It's likely a broken contact, but it'll depend on how the electronics are situated inside. If anybody can fix it, though, I'm sure he can.

Even though I'm sure almost half my toy collection as a kid was made up of Remco, I don't remember a thing about these. I don't have any problem with lack of articulation, but somehow I don't think I'd have enjoyed them all that much. Well, anyway thanks for sharing this video. It was fun.

I never had a remco energized Spidey or any of the toyline,and wasn't upset about it,didn't get everything I wanted as a kid and I was cool about it.

I saw the Robin fly commercial as a kid and i thought wait! Robin can fly? He's a boy in his underwear fighting crime lol

Had spiderman and copter as a kid. Was fun to play with to a point.

That's a perfect way of putting it.

I too had this, and also the Green Goblin! It was a terrible toy to give a kindergarten-age kid, because you had lots of things that would go wrong...such as a "web" that was destined to get tangled and knotted and broken! I MUCH preferred my Mego Spidey with Spider-mobile and also the Crime-Detecting Van that was stocked with accessories!

I too wanted this sooo bad as a kid. Later, and not much later, finding out you couldn’t pose him any other way, I was over it. Adults had tried to explain this to me, but like most gen x kids, I was sure they were lying to me. I only believed it when another kid told me. 🙂👍

As a kid, my mother was going to get me an Energized Spider-Man and his copter for my birthday. Sears didn't get it on time and I was brokenhearted. So, on a trip to the local hardware store, we saw they had Star Wars figures, so she bought me the Star Wars figures I didn't have up to that time. A month later, since I was born in November, I got the Energized Spider-Man and copter for Christmas. I didn't say much about it, since I didn't want to hurt my parents' feelings, but I was glad it didn't come in on my Birthday and that was all I would have got. This was the most boring toy I've ever had. At least those parachute dudes would work once or twice. Hooking Spidey up to the wall and watching him move up a cord...With no movable parts....Sooooooo boring! And the copter....Even worse! The danged thing is probably still in close to mint condition in my attic since I never messed with it as a kid.

It seems as if the best part of this is the packaging.

Thoroughly enjoyable episode! I had forgotten about my Energized Spider-Man and when I think back honestly, I was totally finished with the poor thing after 2-3 days.

Now…what I remember is loving that Spider Flashlight thing. I would totally make like Nicholas Hammond was crawling up my wall and shining that light.

I remember seeing the adverts for these figures in comics but don’t ever remember seeing them on the shelves here in the UK. I’m guessing the motor has seized up, not sure if it’s easy to get to or to take the figure apart but usually turning the spindle end of the motor, by hand, for a few mins and a tiny drop of oil can bring it back to life. Great video 😀

Probably the very first Superhero toy I remember seeing / coveting when I saw it as a kid. The gimmick got boring quickly, but the idea was very seductive...

I definitely had the Powerized Batman as a kid and bought a loose , slightly damaged version a few years ago. I clearly recall my brother had the powerized Hulk who threw the log. It's entirely possible we had the energized Batman and Spider-Man too. Do you remember some plastic blocks that featured the core DC and Marvel characters? I think they were called Fiddlesticks? 🤔

Cool. 👍 I have the Spider-Man and Superman boxed plus a loose Batman. From memory- only the Superman kind of works. He still lights up. I think the motors used for these figures seize up after time.

Never had any of these but always admired the line from afar. In my distorted childhood memories I had the Hulk Rage Cage as part of the line, too and sort of remember a Fantastic Four Thing, too. Would really love the Green Goblin (I bet he's super $$$) or Batman.

Great video. Thanks. My older brother had this and you are correct, there's not a lot of play value there. I don't think we ever changed out the first C battery to play with it again.

Brian, this truly was a fun episode. I remember the 12” figures from our family trips down to Plattsburgh NY and while I got the action feature it couldn’t compare with the Mego products. At least now, after four decades I know why these were made. Why Red Dragon though as opposed to just using Green Goblin and, from the pics, it looked liked Goblins arm was articulated. Loophole in the licensing ?

What's even more perplexing is that it wasn't actually even "Red Dragon" - the character's name in the books was White Dragon.

I remember seeing this on the adverts in comics and they looked rather boring other than raising up. I also saw them at yard sales and the people or kids selling them had them in pristine condition because they said they couldn't play with them because they had no way to be moved. Like a Mego 12 inch or shorter figure.

My brother had the energized Spidey. I think one of his hands had broken off or... I broke it off when I was little. But I remember playing with the figure a lot when I was little. I was born in 1979. So that might be why he hated me playing with his toys. Heck... I got people to get his Darth Vader case off the top shelf for me so I could get figures out to turn their heads until they popped off... Fuck me sideways for that.....

man thanks for this video. I have vivid memories seeing this in sears. Spiderman was in his copter spinning up at the ceiling for display during christmas! i think i was 3. never had him... but man was it a spectacle!

Thanks again for posting such an interesting video Brian. I absolutely loved this episode, mainly for the Energized Spider-Man production backstory, and of course, the fabulous vintage commercials on view here. Here in the UK, I never had this figure unfortunately. I did have a Mego Spider-Man however, which did a lot of web-slinging flying action of his own in my back garden, courtesy of strung - up wool from both a nearby Tree and / or metal post. Recently, 43 years later, he came out of toybox retirement and did it all again for some nostalgic mobile phone photos, just for the heck of it and my memories... 10/10 video.

Had Spiderman and the copter. I think I got it the same year as the SuperJoe Command Center and a (discounted) Adventure Team Helicopter. Of the four, I only still have the Helicopter

Great toy that helicopter.

I never understood the appeal of this toy. Sure, a Spider-Man that can "climb" is cool, but I'd been pulling my Megos up the stairs and through the bannister on a piece of string for years by the time this came out. Great video. Hope you find some use for the batteries!

I'm only familiar with these from old comics that I bought in the 90s. They really didn't look that interesting at the time, and I doubt that I would have been interested if I knew about them at the time. Also, I don't think that my parents would have wanted to spend that much on a toy that really didn't do too much. Aside from the Stretch Monster that apparently gave me nightmares, the only toys I remember having in some way from back then were some Mego Superheroes, Star Wars figures and a few vehicles, and a rubber King Kong that got chewed up by the dog.

Technically speaking, they're still _action_ figures as they are figures that hage an action to them.

I remember ordering from New York, I got Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder-Girl, and Speedy. These were mail-ins only if I remember right. WHY I didn't keep these figures? So foolish! I even had the Batman with the removable cowl, and the Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent Superhero Secret Identity series. These were epic! Add to these my 1977 Star Wars figures and playsets! I could have been one happy dude! But instead I'm a DUMBASS! I AM A DUMBASS! So foolish!

I had this briefly when I was a kid. I say briefly because my parents bought it for mem but it did not work. They returned it for another one, and that one did not work, so it got returned once again.

Another amazing video! I remember seeing the Remco merchandise on the shelves at WoolCo back in the 70's, but haven't seen them since.

I was fortunate to have so many action figures but the minute I saw this in the store I could tell it would not be fun as no limbs moved. Never asked mom for one.

I had one, and for what it was I had fun with it.

A buddy of mine had this guy. It was pretty neat for a hot minute but it didn’t hold up against its Mego contemporaries. Too bad yours was DOA.

It's cool, I went in figuring it was broken, so no surprise.

I know I got this for Christmas because there are pictures of it under the tree. I dont remember ever playing with it tho. I had the Batman and played with that one more

Thank you for this video...I had this as a kid and had really forgotten about it until your video.

I had Spidey and Superman back in the day and the lack of articulation never bothered me. I probably excused it because I was a big Spidey fan and at the time that was only Spidey toy that I had. I remember also having a large Hulk with articulation with cloth torn pants and a large articulated Captain America around the same time- can't remember the company that made them or what line they belonged to.

I had it and remember loving it when I got it. But really dont think I played with it more than a few times.

Hi!! Loved this video! I had the Spider-Man and the copter!! Looking back yeah I was so excited I had this! I did play with them a lot but I had no villains just my imagination! I remember I did get bored pretty fast but I did use it till spidey didn’t work anymore. Then he was just a statue. Also where are you located? You mentioned shoppers…. Is it shoppers drug mart? Yeah, Shoppers Drug Mart, I'm in the GTA.

The DC ones with cloth costumes would've won hands down for me (had I seen them, but memory of them). It would've made them "warm" and lifelike, which the hard/"cold" Spider-Man lacked for me, no matter the action features and accessories. It also didn't help that Spider-Man had that odd and very non-comic vehicle. But, what gets me is that they didn't give the Green Goblin a vehicle; he literally was continually shown with an awesome one, that mechanical jet bat (and rocket "broomstick" before that). What a missed opportunity.

I remember being spellbound by tjecomic ads for Energiezed spider-man. Then seeing it a few years later at a flea market and was happy I never received statue spidey

Yeah even as a kid I was surprised by that. I had the Red Dragon issue too but he's no Mysterio.

I have both versions of Energized Spider-man. I have the second one with the box, but not the spider sense gadget. I still don't know how that thing works. The motor on the Spider-man makes the sound, but I don't know if he can climb because the rope is missing. I have all of the Remco super heroes (Energized and Powerized), but none of them are complete. I paid 20 dollars for both Spider-man and Superman with their boxes.

1st action figure I ever owned.

For the heck of it try some non alkaline C batteries, like Heavy Duty C Batteries. I've tried some old electronics using new alkaline batteries, and they didn't work. After racking my brain after cleaning and wire checking, my last resort was heavy duty batteries, and by golly it worked perfectly. I couldn't believe it. Hope it helps.

I saw spidey a lot in box and loose at toy shows in the mid 80's.never saw a Boxed Batman though.

So after watching this video, I went and found my Energized Spider-Man (did not remember it was even called that.) of course it doesn't work (no surprise.) His hands even fell off (no surprise, they were glued on and rubber.) what was surprising was how in poor condition the red paint was especially for something I know I didn't play with a lot as a kid (yes, it had little play value with zero articulation. His head doesn't even turn.) the paint either was poorly sprayed on to begin with, or it somehow was flaking off after all these years. It really looks like a poor paint job to begin with. I vaguely remember the rubber web (which I can't find,) don't remember the flashlight at all, but I do remember the clamp which may still be in a box somewhere. A very gimmicky toy that couldn't hold a kid's interest even back then. Ah, the memories.
