I agree. When you get married and have a family, you leave your mother and father and become one with your wife/husband. You need to have their back. At the end of the day, they are the one you have chosen to live the rest of your life with. Treat them with respect, love ,dignity, and be loyal. Keep the communication and laughs happening. Never lose that sense of humour or the ability to laugh at yourself. Never let the sun go down on your anger. That's the secret.

My MIL and other in laws came to our wedding, but they stayed outside, then after the wedding, posted pictures and tagged my husband's ex-girlfriend in them. I don't bite my tongue to people treating my husband like a door mat. He's absolutely amazing and I can't fathom how he came from these people.

I don’t know how they could ever fix this. This requires a complete change of heart for both of them . They don’t like each other at all . How can you change that . Even at the end of the interview they were blaming each other refusing to see how they are wrong . Good luck . This is all consuming and heart breaking .

As a mother in law, let me give you some advice Kathy. Stay home until you learn your place. After you see DNA proof, you still call your grandson "the child".

Can read her like a book. She won't change for anything. A sad, sad woman.

Dr. Phil, I had a mother-in-law that was just about perfect. I know that I was blessed with her and my sisters-in-law. When there was a problem, my mother-in-law was always there! The boys loved her, and she was always wise in her dealings with everyone. When one boy was in the hospital, she stayed with him, or let me be with the one in the hospital and would be with the one at home. I miss her and her sense of humor. My poor mom lost her way when she was about 50 and was diagnosed as having dementia. I really felt bad, but I didn’t like the boys to be around her without supervision. She loved them, but wasn’t able to deal with them. I was so glad that Grandma Grace was relaxed enough to do “boy” things. Fish, dig in the sand, etc. the boys laughed with grandma and danced with grandma.

As a mother in law to this mother in law, you wouldn't even close your mouth long enough to let Dr. Phil give you good advice. You always have to have the last word. Your son is grown. If he makes a mistake in his life, it is his to make. But if he does make a mistake, and you treat him with no respect, he will not come to you.
