I believe the split wiring was for either an automatic lamp changer setup where it would detect a failed bulb based on current, or it could have been a day/night setup to use both during the day for extra visibility and just one at night. Nice clean-up job, and really nice lamp!

Thank you. I was surprised that the light bulbs were still good. I thought about taking it completely apart and doing a good clean-up. But some things just look better if left alone.

though that would be an interesting concept, the FAA actually spec'd these particular beacons to operate two bulbs at the same time in order to output 2000 candelas. these red beacons utilize a photocell to turn off during the day. in some cases where towers do use day beacons, a setup will have a white strobe, as white is much more visible in bright environments. then switch back to red at night

What voltage did you hook it up to 110 or 220?

very, very cool video! if you'd want your flash to look a little more authentic you could try making the "off" time on the flasher about 1-2 seconds long. also curious about what product you used to clean the glass? thanks

Thank you, All i used is a glass cleaner, but the style that is a spray can. And used a toothbrush to get into all the groove. Nothing special, but it did take a couple of times to get it all.
