Tour Of Wind Rock Park Tn, & A Little Bit Of Our Last Ride.

Ойын-сауық

Chris and I just returned from a trip to Tennessee. While there, we used our enclosed trailer, to camp at Wind Rock Park. We met up with a large group of friends, who either camped or rented a cabin, and spent a few days riding the trails. NOTE: When you look at the map of the trails, many of the trails marked moderate, or intermediate, would be very difficult, at most any other location. We had a wonderful time. The park was clean, and well maintained. The staff was friendly, and rules were enforced, No alcohol is allowed on the trails, or in/on atv utv, but is allowed at camp. There are grocery stores, gas stations, and a atv/utv repair shop, that had a nice selection of tires and parts, all within 6 miles. We will be retuning, for more adventures. Hopefully the weather cooperates, and we do not blow a giant hole in our transmission again.

It might be useful to know that the overall Windrock organization is divided into three sections and they run very independently of one another. For example, the people at the general store don't have any control over the campgrounds or the cabin rentals. The people at the store can only tell you all about the trail conditions and purchasing trail passes. Then there is the event area where they hold the concerts and mud-bog competitions. Again, a separate entity. And while you may be able to purchase event tickets at the general store, they have no control over the events. People are often surprised to find that after renting a cabin or camp site, they also have to separately purchase a trail pass. But it's easier to understand once you know more about their organization - and that a waiver is required before you can purchase a trail pass. The most common complaint I see is regarding the "rental" of a map-app that seems to fail many users. One reason might be because many phones don't have a GPS but use cell towers which can not be reached at Windrock unless you are on a mountain top. The map might still function but can't always tell you where YOU are. Personally, I would simply buy the paper map and navigate for myself. It's also useful to note that if you wander off Windrock's 72,000 acres onto TWRA lands, that those trails are not on the Windrock map at all and that off-roading TWRA lands requires a different pass, a pass you can purchase from the state.

We had to turn around. Blew a giant hole in the transmission. Once we winched to the top, we had to slowly work our way off the mountain.

I still shake my head at people bringing farm equipment to windrock

I would not call it "farm equipment". Dual purpose yes, but we have a machine that usually walks through any situation with ease, whether it is mud, mountains or sand, now that we have replaced the poorly designed transmission.

Daniel Frank The General Bridges the gap between work & play. It is an extremely competent vehicle. The transmission blew on this trip, but it was a major design flaw, that has since been rectified.

Is windrock better riding than royal blue??

todd wolff I have not ridden Royal Blue. Our trip there was unfortunately cancelled, due to Covid. I can tell you, it is much more challenging than Hatfield & McCoy. And, not necessarily in a good way. Many trails at Windrock were marked blue or green, when they should have been black or red. Good way to damage your equipment. We loved Windrock, but were a little frustrated with the maps.
