Tour My Cabin, I'm Super Proud of It
Ойын-сауық
One of my proudest builds here on my property was this cabin in the woods. After months of planning and deciding on a design I quickly found out that the planning stage was the easiest part of this whole build. With each piece of wood used to build this cabin coming from my own woodlot, it took me months just to harvest the trees, skid them to my sawmill, saw them into usable lumber even before I started hammering a single nail. With about 8 months of time spent building the cabin after all the wood was sawn, to say this was a long project is an understatement. Let's not get mixed up though, this was well worth it. On today's episode I"ll give you the grand tour of what makes this tiny house/cabin so special to me and why I"m super proud of it. Sure is a great feeling looking back at the project after it's been complete for about 3 years and be able to appreciate it as much as the day I completed it. Glad you're all here for the tour, here we go!

Sandy, the pride you feel in your cabin is well earned and deserved. I am sure your mill has more than paid for itself. It is no small thing to cut the trees down, bunk them up, mill them into lumber and THEN build something so substantial with that lumber. The amount of labor to build a project like this by yourself not to mention the recording of the effort, wow. As for the ladder, there are a lot of options, and I am sure you will find one that works out great; even if it is just to leave it the way it is or to allow for removing it completely and hang it on the wall.

Sandy, that's a fine little cabin. I think it's really cool that the majority of it is constructed from re-purposed site trees. Reminds me of some of the pioneer cabins I have seen in the States. I am impressed at the amount of components you have salvaged from other builds. I bet the view is absolutely beautiful in winter. Well done Sandy. You should rightfully be proud of your accomplishment. 👍

@@sawingwithsandy through bolt the ladder to the rail so you can swing it up and hook it to those rafters instead of rolling it, could put two notches in the floor for the feet or some nice rubber no slip caps
Just a simple and yet extraordinary piece of work. The fact that you did this totally from tree to finished cabin is a tribute to your skills. Love the bug bite wood! The only thing better would have been if it had had worm trails in it. Rustic and fabulous! Great job!

The thing I love about your videos is that you are so relatable to an average person. Pretty much anyone can do what you do easily enough without a lot of money but a lot of ambition. You should be so proud of what you've done. You're actually the inspiration of why I have a Woodland Mills sawmill, saw and build my own projects. Thank you Sandy!

The thick stainless steel chimney pipe, which goes from the stove on the ground floor through all the rooms to the roof and heats all the rooms, is simply ingenious, as it not only looks good, but is also highly functional.
It's nice to see someone creating and doing it yourself. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it as long as your are satisfied. Perfect place to leave it all behind and enjoying it all. Keep on creating!!

Very nice Sandy!! I like your idea of hinging the ladder, at least if you have more than yourself there. A boat trailer winch would quickly and easily lift it out of your way, giving you a lot more usable space, and also a better out side view, while being able to be lowered if you are going to use the loft! I have a feeling that if you hinged the ladder, it would spend most of its time up and out of your way!

Beautiful. Maybe some day you can replace the deck railing with cable (so the view won't be blocked), and extend the porch floor to make a big deck with a table & chairs, and a (deck safe) fire pit for hanging out with your friends, cooking on a grill, etc. It's nice to be up off the ground, especially in the evenings when it gets buggy.

Absolutely gorgeous! What a wonderful little place!
Your cabin is beautifully unique and wonderfully practical, and wherever one's eye rests, meticulously precise craftsmanship is evident! Clearly very well thought out before wood was even cut, from the foundation to the roof ridge shows outstanding attention to detail. High quality materials combined with very high standards of workmanship make this uncluttered, light, bright and airy cabin really stand out! Imaginative, naturally beautiful and with the double, glazed doors bringing the outdoors inside, really quite magical. I find your lovely cabin to be elegantly simple and simply elegant. Your sense of pride is wholeheartedly justified, thank you for sharing your inspiring cabin.

To hold foundation in place, pick two spots, 15-20ft away from base, dig holes, remove dirt then back fill with clean dirt. The pines and fir put out acidic soil. Then plant two Sugar Maples, one in each filled hole. Cut any pines within 20 ft. Remove needles, give a sprinkle of lime in winter when there is snow, add nitrates. This will ensure the Maples take. They grow roots three times the size of above ground. They hold rocks and soil in place, reducing any chance of house movement. Plus they are lovely, attract wildlife.

Any tree around a house or building must be considered. If he likes the ‘feel’ of pine and smell, they do sell miniature pine and fir trees that don’t grow beyond 10-12ft.. they would provide thermal cover, noise reduction, and add wind protection.
A little piece of heaven!
