The only part that kind of bother me is the line that says, "tsis hais saum neej, los 'saum' nruab yeeb." It should has been, "tsis hais saum neej, los 'hauv' nruab yeeb." Because for heaven, it is saum ceeb tsheej. For Earth/the human world, it is hauv yaj ceeb. For the death world, it is hauv nruab yeeb. That's the only feedback I have for this line. Other than that, I love the song and everything about it. Zoo kawg li lawm. On my repeated list.

the truth is i dont think siv yis ever did fall in love. I mean im just speaking out from my ass but how could you when you have so much responsiablities. Protecting human souls and is the gatekeeper from reality world to the soul world. His job is he must killed if anyone crosses the line. He know too much that emotion shouldnt borther him. Sorry to say but there’s more to it then falling in love with another person in life. He see it all he knows too well. Picture this if your a god and you see this world for what it is. People dying left to right, would you care to favor one life for the other or even compare. If someone died youll just see it as a natual causes thats how it is. You get what i mean right. So yeah its sad but hey we dont know the knowledge they do so we cant understand them and why siv yis do the thing he does.

Accidentally came upon this while listening to a mix up of Hmong music. The lyrics are so deep and poetic, I had to stop what I was doing to pick up my phone and rewind to make sure I heard what I heard. Deep. These are the type of poetic words and lyrics our ancestors and the elders use. It's beautiful, unfortunately some of us will lose this gift but for those that can grasp it like this please continue to share with the rest of us. So good.

I love this video and song so much, I want everyone to fully understand the importance of this video's information; so I'm going to try and explain to the viewers out there that are either not Hmong, or are not familiar with the Shamanism Religion. SPOILER: VERY LONG COMMENT. I also wanted to clarify some things about Shamans that may have been portrayed incorrectly in this video; please forgive me if my understanding is different from yours. To start, I've been a “Hwj Sawv” for ~15 years now, so while I may not know everything, I might be able to shine a light here and there on the misrepresentation. The purpose of this comment is only for information, nothing to hate on the artist or this dramatization: I love how the videos starts out with a normal scene with the antagonist walking peacefully down the steps; it hides the fact that he is the main antagonist in the video. He then sees his lover (the abducted person’s soul) sitting at an empty table; the viewers than are allowed to scan the background which beautifully displays several couples walking around. (This information is critical since in a real "Jingle Bell" ritual (the name we give to a Shaman’s ritual), spirits/demons will always dramatize the scenery as normal as can be to confuse the unsuspecting person making them believe everything to be true. However, it is ironic that there are so many couples hanging out in front of one single building, hence, the building is the gateway which houses the demons and protects them from mature Shamans, more on this later.) We also see that their time takes place in a modern setting; the setting also takes place more likely in the States, hence the stylishness of clothing, furniture, fountain in front of the house, and the building style of the house including the AC unit on the second floor window. There is also a stone path with steps leading to where our lovers sit in front of the camera. Notice the elegance of the building and the influence it has to attract so many “people” to it, yet, there is a neglect on lawn care- now this may be what Touky intended demonstrating the mischief acts of spirits attempting to camouflage reality with beauty, however, like humans, they are not perfect and as a result, we see the unkept weed control. The second scene quickly takes us to a deserted wildlife setting with many forest life everywhere, which details the transition that usually takes place in dreams. (You know, sometimes you dream one scene, then all of a sudden you’re at a different scene, but you don’t question it, it just makes sense. Well, in the spirit realm, spirits also do this- A LOT. It causes confusion and forces the person to fully put their trust in the spirit’s guidance, which normally leads deeper into the realm of the dead until the person is too far gone and expires in the real world.) Did you notice? The path they walk no longer has any stone pavement; this is important because it details that the spirit has taken the person from the States to now closer to where he wants her to be, which we learn later it’s somewhere in Asia (Laos). Spirits has a tendency to always lead the person of interest towards their birth place, even if it’s in a different country. In this scene, the viewers are introduced to a masked man, whom blurs between the line of hero and villain; his appearance startles the couple and they stop dead in their track. You can tell the horror the couple feels as their facial expression changes drastically, However, most Hmong people would be able to identify the masked man as the Shaman, or the Protagonist, mainly because he dons the Jinglebell Ring. The Shaman’s first action is to exchange the paper in his hand for the girl, where we see the spirit denying the transaction. (If you guys are wondering why a Shaman would think such transaction would work, paper for a soul? It’s because, folded inside the paper, is also a cutout of a human figure; in which transforms into a human dummy in the spirit realm that looks identical to the abducted soul.) The dialogue between Shaman and Spirit is lost in the music, but normally it goes something similar to: Shaman: This is the real girl that you want, the one you want is a dummy, Trade me the dummy for the real girl. Spirit: No, I have the real one; you have the fake one, I do not want that one. The conversation would lead to many more clever ideas from the Shaman to manipulate the Spirit into believing his trade to be more valuable than what the spirit currently has- in the real world, this actually takes quite a while, especially because some spirits are very stubborn or merciless. With Touky’s understanding of Hmong Religion, it would have been nice for him to use CGI displaying both girls at the same time, similar to when he has one transformed into a pig- that would’ve served better for the actual trading scene. Now comes the misinformation: Shaman’s don’t forcefully throw the pig at the Spirit like what was displayed. Livestock, such as pigs, are actually told to do a specific job and given a time to when the job expires. In which case, after a successful trade, the Shaman would pay the Pig Spirit (symbolizes as a powerful warrior/guardian in the spirit world) to stay behind and guard the gateway (that building at the beginning of the video), usually 1 year- at which time, the Shaman would quickly make his retreat back to the States with the girl’s spirit. However, in this case, since the trade is not successful, the Shaman would have called upon the Rooster- the rooster’s crow signals a lightning storm to scare off the Spirit, worst case-scenario, the spirit will be caught in the storm and killed. Shaman’s do NOT instinctively kill spirits as is displayed, ONLY as a last resort. While the video displays the Shaman as a very powerful being, it also displays the immaturity of this Shaman. The priority of the Shaman is to never let the spirit touch the kidnapped soul once saved/traded; of course, because the video wanted emotional dramatization, they allowed for the spirit to touch the girl’s spirit; thus, allowing for the spirit to transfer all her prior life’s memory back into her current self. The scene then remanence their past life as refugee’s during the Vietnam War at a Hmong New Years’ celebration, where a raid eventually caused the demise of both of the lovers. The song’s title is called “Drop of Blood,” and so the scene portrays the trading of blood promises between the two lovers right before they die, usually as a promise for one lover to come and find the other lover in their next life cycle. In such case, we learn that the female lover was reincarnated while the male lover remained a spirit; however, to fulfill the blood promise, he comes to take her spirit to live with him in the realm of the dead since she cannot take him to live with her in the realm of the living. The scene ends with the spirit dying in her arms and turning into dust (spirits that are killed will never be reincarnated and are lost eternally). She is then teleported away by the Shaman; CORRECTION: Shamans do not teleport, they actually ride Winged Horses, and if the movie would’ve went on, it would’ve portrayed all the different realms and gates they have to cross until finally returning her to her body in the States. The final scene depicts her waking up from a long dream which she could not physically be awaken from without a Shaman’s ritual; she is crying. In real life, if this was to happen, she will forever remember her past life and will cause conflict with her everyday life hence forth; why? Blame the Shaman’s immaturity and allowing the spirit to touch her after the trade. Now some of you will now be asking, where does the pig and chicken come from? While the video does not share this information, especially since it has nothing to do with the song, but knowing the ideology would help people to understand the significance of the sacrificial animals: During a Jingle Bell, a pig is sacrificed to enter the spirit world and helps in guarding specific gates that aligns with the living and the dead; while the chicken is only summoned when difficulty arises. It was a long read, but hopefully, it was insightful for most of you guys, cheers!!!

I never got to speak Hmong because I didn't naturally learn it as I grew up. But piecing the story altogether because it actually ties up a lot with Hmong culture, makes this music video such an amazing piece. Good work!

I haven't been listening to Hmong songs for a while (at least 1 decade). Your song speaks to my heart. So I've decided to tune back to my Hmong roots. The eighties and nineties songs always had great meanings to their songs (e.g. touly vam khue, pov thoj, luj yaj etc). Your lyrics brought that missing link to this generation. The beat, the scenery and acting flows with your music and lyrics. Keep up the great work. About time we had decent meaningful music. I love everything about this MV ❤

The only thing similar is how this is spiritual just as the other song is that everyone else is mentioning, but the concept stories are completely different. If anything, I think it's an interesting topic to sing about. I'm for it, this song is fire, especially being that the beat isn't from a Chinese/Korean song originally as well (or so I hope not). Keep up the amazing work!
