Tough guy Danny Trejo's food empires
Grizzled character actor Danny Trejo has a soft spot for food as an award-winning restaurateur. Luke Burbank reports on Trejo's taco and donut shops, which have sprouted up on the same Los Angeles streets where Trejo, as a youth, once found himself on the wrong side of the law.

Danny doesn't look 75 at all.He once said: Everything good that has happened to him was a result of something good he did for someone else. That proves he's put a lot of good karma out there.

I was shocked to find out he was 76. He's had the aged, lined face for decades, but his body, hair, way he carries himself is like someone in early-mid 60s.
One evening I was at a dive bar, talking with an MMA fighter from here in Omaha. His phone rings and he chats with the guy for a couple minutes, then says, "Hey, Danny, talk with my friend Kurt." He hands me the phone and it's Trejo on the other line. I was blown away, and he and I talked for a couple minutes about his movies and he was SO proud of his restaurants. That's his passion. I sensed through this short conversation this was a gentleman who truly loves life and making people happy now. Good for him for turning his life around and bringing joy (and great food from what he told me) to so many. CBS Sunday Morning is one of my favorite programs. The segments are positive, interesting, thought-provoking, and well-reported. Keep up the great work!

So glad Danny Trejo turned his life around! I have really enjoyed watching him in his tough guy roles on screen. Can't wait to visit one of his restaurants!
For 75, Danny looks real good and can't help but to notice how he has nice, cool, long slick hair. He has them good Native American genes lol
We love Danny
Dude's 75 but even now is a total badass, willing and able to run to the scene of a car accident and save a baby. That's just AMAZING!!!
You can't beat Real authentic Mexican food! Just like real soul food! Absolutely awesome
The substance abuse programs still use him as an example of sobriety.
Danny is awesome. I love his acting and his taco joint looks amazing.
I love how he changed his life. Good for you danny 🇲🇽 🇲🇽 God did Bless you.
Dude is like the Rock. He just keeps showing up in action films.
He is living proof that people with troubled pasts should get a chance second and sometimes even third chances to turn their life around and succeed.
I love his laugh and he ain’t lying about eating good till about the 19th of the month....
Been watching Danny Trejo for a long time and was aware of his amazing story which inspires me to this day . God bless.
Danny Trejo is really a good guy. I hope he's doing well in this trying times.
Danny Trejo is a true example of redemption, may God continue to bless him!
I wish the best for the Big homie Danny Trejo. Hope big homie lives long.
I hope the Lord gives him another 75 years we need more Mexican positive people like him!
Known now for all the right reasons, he seems like a genuine guy who truly appreciates his good fortunes. The scene at the end of this segment strikes me as the ideal “fade to black” as viewers see the wonderful mural of the older man in the parking lot where the troubled younger version of that man used to deal drugs. I hope a Hollywood director is smart enough to tell Trejo’s impressive story.
Haven't been to his restaurants yet, but I ordered some of his hot sauce. It's pretty damn good!
Very inspiring! We think our lives are so without until we hear guys like this that come out of crisis and prosper. Only in America! This is the America we need.

All natives or mestizos have that weathered look in given time with old age and a proper physique. My gramps was a WW2 vet, very hardworking and fit. He just got better with age, outdoor riding on horseback grazing through the canyons around the Sonoran desert. Very remarkable.
He’s afraid someone will wake him up in prison and that it was all a dream. Sadly I can relate to that, I know what that feels like
Great story !! 🙏💙

Good for you Danny, you are blessed and you know that... 👍🙏
Beautiful redemption. Love and hugs to you, Danny. Proud of you
I totally agree. Its only through helping another person that we are able to turn our life around. In fact, its through dedicating our being to a purpose greater than ourselves that we live a fulfilled life.
To me, a man like Danny is the best of the best. To start out being total loser and turning it all around by defeating your demons is an amazing thing. You just have to ask God to let you live long enough to finish the fight. So many die as losers. Now that is sad.
Love all his movies
He has a wonderful laugh!
Love this guy!
