One reason you are becoming a headbanger, and a fan of any other genre you never listened too before, is the fact you are actually listening to the lyrics. Many of the songs that are dismissed as just screaming, if you listen to the lyrics, or look them up if you need to, you find profound messages, it is just a different method of delivery

At it’s core the song is about the loss of a loved one and the struggle that follows. In grief it almost feels like you died as well and you stop living. For example “when she died, I should have cried and spared myself some pain” I never dealt with the loss and this is unresolved. “I will unlock my door and pass the cemetery gates” It’s time to find acceptance and live again.

There's a pretty interesting backstory to this song. It's based on an actual friend's suicide and this song is their way of coping with that loss. There is so much raw emotion in this song, and the keening at the end is chilling.

This song (and a lot of metal songs) are deep and have so much meaning to them. There's such a misconception from those who don't listen to it that it's just screaming "devil music". Nothing could be further from the truth. Those who take the time to actually delve into it end up appreciating and loving it.. as it should be.. Rock on! \m/

Sure, but I'm not gonna listen to full on screamo like some bands I've heard. Because I can't understand those guys. LOVE metallica and this song and walk are the only pantera songs I've listened to. But if the singer doesn't get more guttural than this, then I'm fine.

@@NYC_Goody Full on screamo isn't metal in my opinion. It's a sub genre of it I guess since there's like a thousand categories now. I like the balance between the clean lyrics and some screams (slipknot for example) but I would never sit around and listen to some dude growling throughout an entire song, every song, or just screaming because he can. There's gotta be balance.

This was their masterpiece. Musically, it's complex but still accessible enough for you to groove to it; it's vocally amazing; lyrically, it's very personal and vulnerable without being sappy. The song's almost 6 minutes long but it flies by because it doesn't drag at any point. It's perfect. Phil Anselmo (singer) was kinda like metal's Eminem, before there was an Eminem. He came into the spotlight with a lot of personal baggage and pain and worked it out over the years through his art. Artists like that grow up in public which is why their fans are so loyal -- you don't just love their music, you love them because you've gotten to know them through the albums and through the years.

The one time that I ever took a real taxi ride I was listening to this song on my portable cassette player with the headphones cranked all the way up. And, when it got to the screaming guitar part at the end the lady asked me "what the heck are you listening to?". I just started laughing and told her the name. She was freaked out. This was back when this song was new.

Our band played 100's of times at the Al Rosa Villa in Columbus OH in the late 70's to early 90's. I have never been back there after Dimebag was killed on stage. RIP Daryl!

Absolutely loving this reaction. Much love from Norway. And for the record my first Pantera album i bought in summer 1992 on a whim was vulgar display of power, u need to give it a listen its amazing.

So glad I found that you guys did Pantera. These guys are from my area. Such down to earth guys. Dimebag (guitar) and his brother Vinnie (drums) would always support any rock concert coming through Dallas. It was very common to see them walking around in the crowds just being one of us. Stopping to talk to any one that wanted to. RIP to both Dimebag and Vinnie.

Poor Amber looks scared before it started. RIP Dimebag and Vinny. They were brothers, guitar and drums respectfully. Dimebag was murdered on stage in the band he was in after Pantera, it was a Pantera fan that was pissed they broke up. Such a great band

Love that song. They hailed from Arlington TX, and the Abbott brothers are buried side by side. A fence and gate has been installed to keep fans from defacing the grave covers.

as an amateur musician i will try to explain this "dont pause solos" phrase. it's like you have a house, and then solo makes you travel around some random places they want to make you travel (you will imagine them, as if reading a book in which you imagine the people) around and then go back to home. in musical terms it normaly starts and ends in some concrete notes, based in theory, armonized stuff, scales etc etc. so is important to listen a solo from the beggining, as it normaly says in which place you are. like a table game with a house square and then a road and back to home square. they telling u which game is in the beggining
