The car looks great man good job. Yeah I would love to see a tool video showing off the bender and saw and everything you used to make the cage. Keep up the good work! honestly I appreciate seeing someone like you go through this experience for the first time. It's really in contrast to some of the crazier builds on KZread (project binky) but yeah I love to see the passion of one person make a really nice thing happen!

This is great information. I am going to start a build sometime this summer 2023.

In Poland you could easily build cage simmilar to this for 1.5k$ without painting. You might even do it cheaper, that's the price in one of the best brands ireco or vicars. The only reason to do it by yourself here is the satisfaction of doing it

Ethan Brandt my brother just built a 2nd gen rx7 over this past year and we had gary demasi (v8 rally ranger) do the cage. Depending on your location he may b a good fit if your serious.

Thanks man, it's definitely the way to go as long as you have the ability and some of the know how before hand. Definitely don't want to completely learn how to weld while starting something that'll have to save your life. It is bolted to the floor, I put female concrete anchors in the floor so I can bolt it and remove it whenever and it won't have studs coming up from the floor to get in the way. You need a lot of effort to bend the tubes so mounting it securely definitely helps.

Great build been watching a long time. I know I'm into this a bit late but what sort of weight to you think is in an FIA cage..

Your channel is criminally underrated. Have you done anything else to the car beyond the cage? Do you have future upgrade plans? Or do you just plan on driving it till you're done then selling it?

Everything that is done to the car I've done, but I do have a lot of plans for it coming up. Mostly just making it more reliable and stronger to hold up to the abuse it sees during the rally events. I do want to build a 2WD car soon for rally though.

do you know the weight added with the roll cage?

Pretty cool. I'm going to pay up to have mine done. I don't want to die because I did a shitty weld lol

Would you recommend using CAD software or is it just not worth the extra affiliated cost then just making it by hand?

A CAD model would be a good idea if you wanted to get the cage design approved before actually starting it, but unless you have very precise measurements of the car's interior car than it would be hard to design a cage that fits tightly. Doing all the measurements as you go will make it a lot easier to build a cage that contours to the interior as well as possible, giving you a lot more space in the car and a stiffer chassis. Saving all your measurements as you go and refining the cage dimensions in CAD would definitely be useful though.

I brought the car to a certified tech inspector that has the authority to assign log books to a car, I did the entire cage with his approval of the design and sent a lot of update pictures along the way. Technically it isn’t FIA approved certified, since we don’t use them here, but the cage is required to be built to their specs.

So many people underestimate, or maybe i should say overlook, the NA platform. I've got a rally x car that i plan to build to stage car spec in the next year or two.. I always thought id swap to a turbo platform but I've come to realize there is A LOT of room to learn in an NA car and most of all..the cost of running NA is wayyyy cheaper. it makes my goal of someday running stage rally a possibility whereas running a turbo car would be near impossible for me. (I daily a heavily modded forester sti and actually understand the maintenance and build cost of a turbo subaru haha.) check out our channel if you wanna see our little rally x build. our videos arnt nearly as well put together but its fun to throw together. I guess my point is its nice to see these facts weren't lost on everybody. cheers

You literally can’t run turbo as an amateur in most series. Once you get more experience you can swap a turbo engine in for the next season. But most series simply won’t let you race one.
