Always love these "live in a mix" videos, J! Even a little muffled, that snap and twang wasn't where it needs to be. Another band? You is one busy busy bee!

I think it would be interesting to make a new p90 neck/bridge single pickguard for this and drop a tele pickup (or at least a hot single coil) into the bridge slot... If I end up picking up this guitar and doing a vid, Ill make the same pickguard for you!

Head's up Opened it yesterday. Body and neck construction and finishing are perfect, albeit matte black. Whopper at 8.2lbs. neck angle needs a shim to balance how high the saddles sit and action height. Neck is a slim C for my little hand. Headstock is vert Fender, with only Tostar on it. Tuners had 4 loose buttons but no slop after tightening. Not string through body. Caught me off guard. Easy to make it one. I haven't setup anything yet as of this morning so I can't tell you my impressions. I want to put a different pickguard with Artec TFA65 single. I think at this early point I'll keep a bucker at the bridge, of course one I like the sound of. I'll be editing my initial look video soon and post. O ya it came in a gig bad, .3mm type. Wasn't showing in the ad.

As I remarked on your previous video, I totally agree that those P90’s (ESPECIALLY the bridge, but ALSO the neck) sound rather muddy compared to other P90 guitars you’ve reviewed in the past, like the dog ear P90 on that Westcreek DC you reviewed a while back. If it were me, I would DEFINITELY upgrade those pickups ASAP if you really like the guitar. For a cheap guitar like that, it’s probably not worth investing in high end Lollars or even Seymour Duncans or anything like that… So I would recommend trying either a Fleor Alnico 5 P90 set (NOT the hot wound 11-12k ones, obviously), or the MusicLily Wilkinson M Alnico 5 P90 set. BTW, Soap Bar P90’s and Dog Ear P90’s use pretty much the same components, with ONLY difference being the housing, so in some cases, you might be able to swap the dog ear housing out for a soap bar housing and get more options that way, too. I’m guessing that Alnico 5’s are more likely to give the kind of twang and spank you’re looking for, compared to Alnico 2’s. I would also seriously recommend going with 500k pots instead of 250k pots if you want more high end clarity on P90’s, since they are by nature a lot hotter wound than Fender pickups.

Yeah good advice, thanks! I was thinking doing a complete tele conversion... Some routing, tele pickups, get rid of the TOM bridge, and install a tele style bridge... I'd have to get rid of the angle in the pocket, and find a solution to hide the TOM Post holes etc... but definitely doable!

@@j-man9457 In other words, sort of like a Paranormal Offset Telecaster conversion? Doable, yes… But I think that’s just asking for more expense and trouble. At the very least, you’ll have to fill in and paint over the original bridge posts if you don’t want it to look ugly… Unfortunately, a ToM bridge is slightly wider than a Tele bridge (84.5mm for ToM, versus 76.5mm for a vintage-style Tele bridge, vs 80.5mm for a modern-style Tele bridge), so there’s just no way a Tele bridge will be able to cover them completely, and I’m not sure even a modern Tele bridge will be long enough to cover the tailpiece posts along the vertical axis. On the PLUS side: I do NOT think it will be necessary to change the neck angle to accommodate a Tele-style bridge-I think the saddles might just have enough height adjustment for it to work without modifying the neck pocket, especially if you have tall action height screws. By the way, a Tele bridge pickup and a P90 neck pickup is also a good combination-many Telecasters, including the original Fender Japan Offset Telecaster, and the Schecter PT Special (Pete Townshend signature model from Schecter) used a P90 neck/Tele bridge combination.

@@j-man9457 It also just occurred to me: You might also be able to change the neck pocket angle with a StewMac shim, assuming the dimensions conform to Fender specs.

@@j-man9457 Another idea: I see on Amazon that Censtar actually makes an offset Telecaster-style kit! I am tempted to try that route, since I’m not a black hardware/paint guy. 😂
