P90s should always be paired with 500k pots and treated just like humbuckers,brings out the best sound.

@7:46 Both sound excellent. The 90 shirt was tight. A good hard edge just itching to break out. The gray shirt was massive. The dynamic range filled the stadium. You know, I never heard of anyone changing a pot for a gig. But you know, depending on what you were after that night. It might be worth considering, once in a while.

Yes, definitely could hear a difference. The 500k pot definitely sounded brighter and was more pronounced. And congrats on your rapid rise in subscribership. I, like you, just do guitars and gear for fun and its interesting to hear another person of the same doing what you did in this video. I always wondered about the difference in pots and you helped answer that question for me and others who are finding you online. Continued success!

I noticed a difference for sure. The 500k were more articulate and crisp. Definitely brighter. I listened with quality headphones as well, which makes a difference. The phone speaker doesn’t do it justice.

At the end of the day the ear of the beholder will ultimately decide what sounds better. I'm sure there is a noticeable difference on a graph, but at the end of the day you don't play a guitar as per the graph on the computer screen, it's all about what sounds good to you...

I definitely notice a touch more sparkle with the 500k pots here on this end, although it is fairly subtle, and as you say, it doesn’t really change the general tonal character. Interesting that the IYV ITF-300 with those same pickups and same pots also sounds noticeably brighter than the Axis… It’s been a while since I’ve heard you play the ITF-300, of course. The chambered thinline design of the ITF-300 also probably makes it slightly more airy sounding than the solid body Axis.

What I think? Unless you had 2 exact same guitars on stage with the exact same gear plugged in. There is no way on this green and blue Earth anyone would tell any difference. If you only had that guitar and any other instrument... nobody would know what pots you had in there. Totally subjective and realistically, if you put the 500k in a guitat with older strings and the 250k with brand new strings.. which would be brighter sounding? So honesty the comparison is kinda pointless.

@@dangertreez well everything was exactly the same: strings, amp settings, tuning, guitar, player, tunes, effects... Just the pots changed. And my T-shirt hahaha. But I agree, I gigged it last night with the 500k and I really didn't notice much of a difference, however I did add more bass frequencies to my drive pedals... I think outside of pickups and the player with all else being the same anything else you change on the guitar will make practically no difference!

From what I've seen, usually the Tone Pot is also changed so both the Volume and Tone Pot resistance match. There are several different combinations possible. In my experience, the Tone Pot and it's Capacitor make the most difference.

Not a real major change, but yeah, brighter in the room on its own for sure. On another note, that Yamaha amp I sent to Mike, thinking there's be a boken pc board or connections and in the end the power supply plug was loose. Egad!!

When I got my classic Vibe 60s 2015 model in 2019...The prev owner did a very nice extremely mild relic on th headstock. Little cig burn mark. They also put 500k Alpha full size pots and Mighty Mite single coils at least the covers read mighty mite but they are cloth wired ceramic like MIM pickups with cloth white and black wiring. Made me wonder but they are sure like powerful and In hindsight I should have them the whole loaded guard. I still have it. It's something else. Cortek pots I think. Anyway when I first got it I was still GAS like and heard I needed alnico to have good sound. Hell my MIM Gilmour has ceramics too. But these are so responsive. My then Gt1 loved them. I'm going to put the player Series loaded in my MIM fsr strat as that would make it one less fret than player series and 6 screw classic trem only diff. Until i get a golf anodized loaded fat 50s guard lol and add a nice Humbucher to that. Gold bridge. Maybe tuners I'll leave black hipshot and go black Humbucket. Or dark nickel plated lol. Ramble over. But yea man. 500k on ceramic dual bar magnet sss makes a huge difference in feel and power to me. Idk?? I'm a newbie

That would be the 250k. Yeah I'm indifferent. I can always add treble on my amp if I want a brighter sound or use treble cut if I want darker tones... Not sure the pots make that much of a difference🤔🤔🤔

I think Gibson has used 300k pots in some of their reissues with P90’s… Opinions seem to differ wildly out there on which is best.
