The DUP have blood on their hands too.
The contradiction of Foster's position is she believes the people of the island of Ireland, as an Irish minority within the UK, had no right to vote to leave the UK in 1918. But she believes the British in Ireland, as a minority in the country, had a right to vote to leave the Irish state. But she doesn't believe that the Irish people of Fermanagh and Tyrone (which had clear Catholic majorities pre-partition), as a minority in Northern Ireland had a right to vote to leave Northern Ireland Democracy for me but not for thee. There was never majority consent from the people of Ireland to become part of the UK, and Foster believes they should not have a right to vote to leave and should be forced to remain a permanent minority, in their own homeland. I can only assume that you're surreptitiously working for our side. It's the only possible reason. Is Gerry still sending you a weekly thank you card? Just a few things to help you with the transition: 1. It's Derry. Any attempt to call it L*****derry will result in it being changed to Dublinderry. 2. The 26th of December is St. Stephen's day. That's only a minor thing, so we won't get bogged down. 3. Eircodes. They're amazing. Just enter it into the sat nav, and you're there. No need for a house number. 4. You'll soon get used to the metric system. It makes much more sense than what Britain lumped you with. The imperial system looks like number magnets being thrown at a fridge. 5. Feel free to have your little Orange Pride parades. We'll reserve spaces in Tallaght, Mayfield, Moyross and Ballybeg. Just remember that a fast moving target is harder to hit. 6. Evolution. It's a thing. Read more than one book. 7. You already get called Paddy in Britain, so no change there. 8. Free sTayto are superior. You'll love them. 9. Vauxhalls will now be Opels. Speaking as an NI person myself, Northern Ireland should never have been partitioned from the rest of Ireland in the first place. It was a very bad decision to begin with. NI cannot stand on it’s own separated from the rest of the island. It’s had over 100 years to try and the only successful period in my lifetime was after the Good Friday agreement which allowed it to fully operate as part of an all Ireland economy. But Brexit screwed up that success and only the NI protocol prevents disaster. We need to reunite the island and put an end to this failed state. I’ve lived my life with this and I’d like to see an end to NI. It just doesn’t work and I think never will properly work outside of full EU membership. Arlene and Co., will be firmly placed in the 'dustbin of history' and the sooner that happens, the better.
The UK as a whole is centuries behind civilised countries as far as political systems, and democracy, are concerned ... the DUP is just a bit more obvious.

Half agree because our system is very archaic by comparison now, but not sure about 'centuries behind' because a lot of reforms in continental Europe occured either post war or around the middle of the C19th. If Britain had a less deranged national myth around the industrialised slaughter our working class were subjected to by the failures of reprobate aristocrats in the C20th I think we'd probably have a better system by now as well.
As a Northern Ireland Protestant, and a supporter of the Agreement, I am sad to say that, although terrorist violence has dramatically reduced, the bitterness and division is still existing through inbred dominance.

You are so right in every word you have said. I find it terrible to listen to Arlene Foster and the answer she gave. The MP was excellent.
Foster has often complained about the release of people convicted of resorting to violence during the troubles. She refers to them as terrorists. She is of course referring to republicans , although if cornered she will say that she includes all people who used violence no matter what their political hue. She claims that it was very unjust that these people were released early. However, I have never heard her complain of the injustice of the hundreds of members of the so called security forces who committed murder and other terrible crimes and never served even one day in jail.

This is an excellent illustration of the mindset of the DUP. They cannot for a moment see that the belief that Ireland is one country is evey bit as legitimate, if not historically and culturally more so, as their belief that Northern Ireland is British. To dismiss the very difficult and generous gesture of the rest of the Irish people to change nothing less than the Irish Constitution FFS, especially considering how badly Britain had treated the Irish for centuries and how badly the Northern Ireland Unionists had treated those in Norther Ireland who identified culturally as Irish, right up until they were forced to recognise their basic rights by the GFA, is both appalling and so small-minded. These people are hard to love.

I would add Boris in there too, along with Farage
Re Simon Hoare I wouldn't call it an enormous step, it was a concession re peace in return for the option of future reunification re self determination North and South of Ireland. Unification was only ever going to be viable peacefully by using a mechanism such as this given the history of colonial settler culture by Britain in the North. By calling it an enormous step he makes out that Ireland's claim to the North was illegitimate also, which I don't believe it was. Ireland was a conquered country and colonised and its people treated appallingly for centuries by Britain/England. That's the history. As for Arlene Foster, well not surprising really. The DUP had and have long standing links to terrorism in the North, even helping set up Ulster Resistance. Re the prisoners It was a conflict and post a conflict people who were involved are often released
Northern Ireland itself should never have existed as per the election held in 1918. Northern Ireland was created as a support to the Conservative party, nothing to do with keeping the sides apart. In 1921 this backwater failed sectarian statelet was formed in order to secure a few grubby votes for the Conservative Party. This is what Edward Carson thought of it at the time "I believed all this. I thought of the last thirty years, during which I was fighting with others whose friendship and comradeship I hope I will lose from tonight, because I do not value any friendship that is not founded upon confidence and trust. I was in earnest. What a fool I was. I was only a puppet, and so was Ulster, and so was Ireland, in the political game that was to get the Conservative Party into power. And of all the men in my experience that I think are the most loathsome it is those who will sell their friends for the purpose of conciliating their enemies, and, perhaps, still worse, the men who climb up a ladder into power of which even I may have been part of a humble rung, and then, when they have got into power, kick the ladder away without any concern for the pain, or injury, or mischief, or damage that they do to those who have helped them to gain power."
Arlene Foster has an impertinent, unhistorical view, and I share the view that Northern Ireland should not exist. It should be tolerated not recognised, Putin remarked that he annexed the Crimea on the sae principles as the UK set up and claims Northern Ireland as a province
If Northern Ireland becomes free from the British rule before Scotland I will be moving there. .

Max this is the most inarticulate explanation, you should have left this alone. The Unionists don't need any help digging the hole from anyone. They are doing a great job all by themselves.
Their loyalty to England is only conditional that no Catholic be head of state or prime minister, Tony Blair had to leave office before converting to Catholicism. The no Catholic prime minister is covered under the act of settlement which states "that no Papist shall advise the crown" also "No Papist is worthy to wear the crown of England" Now you can see where their loyalty to England comes from.
For allowing terrorists out of prison... Bring up the photos of Paisley and Robinson fraternizing with loyalist paramilitaries please.
Domestic violence. She used domestic violence to buffer a non existent point. Christ on a motorbike
Does she wonder what the rest of the uk thinks about NI
Britain like much of Europe has had Catholic and Protestant kings and queens and fought against each other for hundreds of years, but the rest of Europe stopped caring about Catholic Vs protestant hundreds of years ago, why was Northern Ireland still caught up in sectarianism right up to the 80's when the rest of Europe moved on?
Arlene Foster was too traumatized a person to be the First Minister. Understandably so, but her toxic and bitter influence prevented any kind of progress from being made in Northern Ireland for close to a decade. A lost decade.
What a cheek this planter has, she gives her allegiance to a foreign parliament and a foreign monarch and at the same time lays claim to a part of Ireland which belongs to the Irish nation not the British nation.
Brilliant Challenge ! 👏
She seems to dismiss the idea that the creation of Northern Ireland, "A Protestant State For A Protestant People", was wrong. The way it was gerrymandered into existence was wrong.
The MP should have asked "do you have any empathy ? Can you not put yourself in the shoes of the Irish Government for even a second ?"

@@Buckets1000 Ireland was united in many ways before the Norman/Anglo invasion of the 1100s and united linguistically, lawfully, culturally and socially right up to the 1700s before British rule took hold. Ireland was actually more unified in the 17th century than Britain is in 2023. 1. Ireland was united before the coming of the Brits/Normans in 1169 as we had one law for the whole island i.e. *Brehon Law* This particular law was in place for 1000 years and was first set down on parchment in the 7th century. This law was operational in Ireland even until the completion of the English conquest of Ireland in the early 17th century. Brehon Law is seen today as very advanced for that time. Brehon Law is hugely important and not to be overlooked as insignificant. *Brehon Law was very advanced for that era and was even in use right up until the 17th century before the Brits took hold* 2. The whole island was *united linguistically as we all spoke Old Irish* The Irish language is around since the Bronze Age and is about 2,500 years old. We all shared the Irish language so were linguistically entwined. 3. *We were united both culturally and socially, too all the while operating under one law and conversing in Irish* One's culture is based firmly around many different parts of everyday life and pre-Norman invasion, Gaelic Irish style of dress, music, dance, sport, social gathering, architecture, and art was nationwide. 4. We had unity albeit political unity, but where and when, even today, has politics ever been united!? Are the folks in Westminster united? Are the folks in the Dáil Éireann united? I think not. Conclusion: The truth is the British invasion destroyed our laws and language therefore creating division - the invasion tried to divide the people and successfully partitioned the island. Ireland was united in many ways before the British arrived and will be reunified when Britain leaves.
