Mark Shaw is right. That’s an electric torpedo ray.
"Don't tase me bro!"
Poor thing got startled.
What an amazing interaction with this animal Johnathan. Great job filming too. Kept your nerve and steady camera!
Torpedo Ray : Is dangerous It's face : : D

Cats Purrsson finally someone who likes rays too!
WoW dude, excellent footage! I guess everything at the front of your camera is plastic, otherwise she might have affected the electronics! From checking other images, she seems to be a Pacific Electric ray. And although she has no spectacular colouration, she's a beautiful animal, in my opinion. 👍
Apparently rays don’t like to be tickled
I so love when I learn about a new animal that I never knew existed
Nice video. I remember a dive with a beginner buddy. We met a baby torpedo ray but didn't touch her. Nonetheless, she began to swim after us! But she didn't glide like this big one, she undelated from head to tail, like a dolphin.

Oh wow!
It swims and looks more like a "Skate" than a Ray(that uses it's wing like fins to swim)
Excellent move
such an awesome animal
Jonathan as much as I love the underwater world the one group that is really quite shocking (no pun intended) is the electric rays, specifically the Atlantic torpedo which can get up to 200 lbs, the Pacific torpedo and the short tail electric ray.
Woooo that Ray is awesome looking! I've never seen it swim before! Unfortunately I've only ever seen one in a gill net =( I almost lasso'd without knowing though. Sheeesh 50 volts...Was this filmed on the East or West Coast?
Cameraman never dies 😂

0:54 10/10 for the U-turn. Am still wondering why a zap hasn't been tried.
She probably was mad 😭

Looks like very long evolution.
Did the battery of your camera que fully charged?
Hey John can you tell me the best freshwater fish that are safe like goldfish pllsssss?
I accidentally tried to let one of these in Mexico. Ouch, wasn't expecting that.
She must be like who came to hug me .....let me hug u 😂😂😂😂wait
Guess ur camera didnt get a buzz!
I wonder the sea floor right now is peaceful as this video or not..
I wonder if the discoloration of the footage during the attack is just because of the rapidly changing lighting or if it's possible that the electricity interfered with the footage.

So what kinda torpedo ray is it
You shouldn't have provoked that ray like that. It would've been more humane to use bait to get it to move for the camera. No hooks of course.
