Camera On A Tiger Shark! | JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD

Ойын-сауық

Books and magazines often say that Tiger sharks will eat anything. They have been referred to as the "Garbage cans of the ocean." Multiple references have been made to them eating license plates of all things. In this exciting episode, Jonathan goes out to the Bahamas to see if a Tiger shark will eat a GoPro camera. Then he tries to put a camera on a shark and turn the shark into the team's newest cameraman...I mean camerashark!
Jonathan Bird's Blue World is an Emmy Award-winning underwater science/adventure program that airs on public television in the United States.

I swear she knew what was happening. For this big shark, how phenomenal a take! She knew what she was doing! To dump that camera right at the foot of the cameramen. That was a very great show of their intelligence. Sharks are way older than us humans. A very successful species. Humans, on the other hand have been here roughly 135 thousand years. We are babies on this planet compared to any other animal or plants. All other sites constantly make sharks to be bad ass carnivores. I've learned that sharks aren't the demons they are made out to be. Because of Jonathan Bird and his Blue World.

I'm glad that somebody finally challenged the myth that Tiger Sharks eat anything. From some of the footage and behavior I've seen, it doesn't look hard for a shark to use its sense of taste and touch to tell what's edible and what's not. Your also right about the intelligence that sharks have, they are far smarter than what people take them to be. Amazing stuff as always Jonathan! :)

Hi, I'm Roxy Tigra, & welcome to my world!!! (cue music). Today at my favourite part of home, Tiger Beach, we have some divers coming in. Divers love coming to Tiger Beach to greet me & my friends & feed us with tasty fish. You know they're coming when you hear the engines, feel the vibrations of the boats in the water & smell the tantalising scent of chum. On the surface, the ever-vigilant lemon sharks are the first in, while beneath them, we know to wait for the small splashes & bubble-streams indicating the presence of divers, & that all-important bait-box!!! You know us tiger sharks; the way to our hearts is definitely through our stomachs!!! Today's lot of divers have cameras, some huge, some tiny. One wants a shot of my mouth, & to be honest, the camera feels rather uncomfortable in there & doesn't taste nice, otherwise it's just the normal; we play & nuzzle, they feed us fish & film. Of course, due to divers not having gills, they have to go back up to change their bottles of air when they get low. They come back, & something clips on my dorsal fin. Too high, dummy!!! Ow!!! I fling it off quickly, hoping next time they get it right. I get a look at it & see it's another camera!!! What, they want ME to do some filming??? Just... not so high on the fin please. Next time they get it right, & after getting comfortable, I take a circuit round some of my favourite spots, including the sea-lawn where the green turtles graze. You all know these places already, but the divers love it!!! Finally I return their camera to them, & have earned myself a tasty fish with the work!!! The divers & I both know I deserve it!!! By the way, one of these divers is quite a regular here; his name is Jonathan something. He often comes down here, & I think he has a bit of a soft spot for us sharks. He gives me a sign with his appendage, indicating happiness, & his face is shining too. Hey, don't forget to subscribe to Tiger Beach Life!!! That's my new KZread channel. Now, how many fish does it cost to buy a camera...

The shots of your team and the bottom of the dive boat together . . . and coming back upon your team as she returns . . . wow. It could not be any better visually, Jonathan. Thank you from the bottom of my artist's soul. About the myth of tigers and eating anything. The Historical perspective A lot of this conviction, the certainty of the fearsome, legendary, gourmanderie, of the tiger shark, comes from the experiences of stevedores on the pier at San Diego, late in the 1940s, when crates full of superannuated Shark Repellent (concentrated cupric chloride salts) were broken up and their contents tossed into the bay, where patrolling sharks, happy to experiment with anything that had a tang like blood, gulped the stuff down indiscriminately and, after being further chummed and tempted, almost anything that followed. My circumstantial analysis based on these anecdotes: It says something about shark repellents of the times, that, upon reflection, any chemist might've hazarded the opinion that, to sharks, the metallic salts in the supposedly unpalatable stuff might've tasted just like blood. Consider in that light, if you will, the story of the heavy Cruiser Indianapolis, whose 900 crewmen not lost with the ship went over the side after she was torpedoed by I-58 . . . with that Shark Repellent in emergency kits clipped to any life jackets among them . . . Note that the USN, through the universal medium of Wikipedia, does not altogether agree with my assertion: "Eventually, it was determined that certain copper compounds, such as copper sulfate[citation needed] and copper acetate ,[4] in combination with other ingredients, could mimic a dead shark and drive live sharks away from human beings in the water. For years, a combination of copper acetate and a black dye to obscure the user was supplied to sailors and aviators of the United States Navy as a shark repellent. Known as "Shark Chaser," it was first packaged in cake form using a water-soluble wax binder and rigged to life vests. The Navy employed Shark Chaser extensively between 1943 and 1973. It is believed[4] that the composition does repel sharks in some situations, but not in all, with about a 70% effectiveness rating." It might seem specious, considering my lack of credentials, but I'm not so sure that the 70% figure is altogether honest. I am convinced (for what it's worth) that, when dissolved in seawater, Copper salts smell/taste like blood . . . and sharks are unusually motivated by the smell/taste of blood in the water. Try some experiments and see what you find. I will avidly review your report on the topic, should you feel moved to post one.

That's interesting stuff William. For a long time there was a very serious effort to develop shark repellents and nothing that really worked was ever developed. I would love to know the source of the license plate story. That's just so hilarious. It must have some root in truth somewhere, but I have been unable to find it.

I love shark vids that disprove old shark tales. It's so important that we understand sharks better. Is there any way for us to breed sharks or has anyone tried? So many sharks are murdered/killed every year. Japanese fishermen kill so many sharks off for fin's and some get caught in nets from other fishermen, how bad will it effect our oceans? BTW thanks for the show.
