they ought to be suspended - this would be the normal procedure in any other area of life and employment - in my working life I had to suspend both an employee and a couple of volunteers - in one case the suspended employee was able to return to work after the investigation albeit with certain conditions imposed in other cases the people concerned were not able to return to their roles - suspension itself is a neutral act that does not presuppose the outcome of any investigation - I understand that those who are candidates cannot be removed from the voting ballot paper but nonetheless they ought to be suspended from the party.

Labour withdrew their support from their candidate in Rocdale. Why can't the tories do the same ? It's the tories inaction that will cost them dear. But that is conservatism.

I've voted Libe-dem since Thatcher asset stripped our services and sold them on the cheap, couple that with flogging housing and not replacing them thus creating a property spiral and renting crisis to the point where councils like Hastings are spending 4 billion of a 12 billion budget on housing support. Even her vaulted achievement of low tax was done on the back of oil money which could have revolutionised this country if it had been invested in infrastructure.

Your vote is a precious gift to us all, people died to give us this right, and for people to find that the candidate they have voted for has broken the law in this way is disgusting. These candidates should be withdrawn and a candidate for that party not be fielded in this constituency, whatever and whoever the party is. Under British employment law, an employee can be suspended as part of a disciplinary procedure (investigation). You may be suspended on full pay if allegations of misconduct have been made against you and are being investigated. Suspension on full pay is not a punishment, but part of the investigation process in a disciplinary procedure for many employers. So, the close-protection policeman is suspended pending investigation but not the Tory politicians. Nice to know that different employment laws apply to them.

Technically this is actually according to the law. Those politicians aren't *employed* by the party, nor are they employed by the parliament since the parliament is dissolved at the moment. So employment laws simply don't apply to them. But keep in mind that I said at the moment. Once the new parliament is in session, it shouldn't take long before any Tory MP involved in the scandal is recalled or forced to resign. This election is *not* over on the 4th of July; get ready for a string of by-elections throughout the rest of the year.

I dont think its down to the betting scandal..this is just the tories squeezing the last bit of cash from the role available to them.

That’s pretty cool. Imagine being incompetent for 14 years and only now realising that other people have worked it out for themselves. In any other career / job you would have to disclose an ongoing investigation to your employer. Why should MPs be held to a different standard yet again?

Everyones tired of musical chairs so wont vote for the Tory party game. Bad move by Rishi and underestimation of how tired the public really are.

It was always a foregone conclusion. The betting scandal just make it more likely the Tories will be annihilated.

Aren't they creating a situation where the only way to be sure you're not voting for a crook is to not vote Conservative at all? Also, I hate that they keep focusing in on 'pending the results of the investigation'. I don't care if setting these bets is illegal, it's plainly unethical and immoral to be placing bets on something you yourself are involved with and are privy to privileged information.

Let's NOT beat around the bushes here, the Tories have stretched anything and everything that was serviceable for their purposes. A TRULY unfortunate state of affairs but they've made their bed a will sleep in it.

Had a drive around Woking and Aldershot - quite a few LibDem boards out, a couple of Reform, no Conservative. This to me says it all.

Council tax is due to rise by 21% over two years. and say no more about Labour wales ?

I've voted Tory at each general election since 2010 (having voted Labour for thirty years before that). Didn't really have a problem in 2010, 2015, 2017, nor in 2019. The Conservative Party really does deserve the annihilation which appears to be coming to it.

Fair credit to Chris Heaten -Harris. Rare among Conservative Cabinet members, he did not go to Eton College and neither Oxford or Cambridge! But as a qualified football referee, he should know about ducking and diving!
