What a wonderful cover version. I met Bonnie Tyler in 1996 whilst working as a pianist in Swansea and I was chatting with her and Ronnie Scott who wrote 'Its a heartache- and Lost in France etc.Ronnie asked me who my influences were and I told him that I admired Tori Amos immensely and Bonnie Tyler agreed that Tori is an extremely talented artist. please, for all of you disparaging her pronunciation .... you don't get it. it hardly matters what words she is saying. the emotion she captures is what this is all about. if that doesn't hit you then you're not going to get it. go listen to something else. have you never had a broken heart? have you not despaired? have you never held a blade to your wrist? has your heart not ached for your mate? tori conveys these moments of desperation that many people have felt & she does it so effortlessly, it's amazing.

Deepest thanks to you, thanx01 for defining what Tori unfailingly always does so very well - that is, capturing the soul of everything she sings. This cover is heartbreaking, candid and very real. I am beyond delighted that you understand this, and the trolls can do their worst, but nothing will ever take away from the stunning beauty of this cover. Yes, but for some reason it didn't make me say "Brooeet ass" or "fall apoohooit" or "once upon a dime" or "toodle eclipse of ahoor." Not once. No amount of despair or melodrama can make what you typed logical. Something can be emotional, and still make sense. They are not mutually exclusive. There is not some magical property of your grief or worship that changes an objective mistake into an objective triumph. It is therefore your rose-colored glasses, and not our inability to "get it" at play here. That's not to say you are "wrong," so much as to point out your grief is not griefier than anybody else's. It's a flawed argument, and it has no relevance to their claim.

Tori has re-worked a classic as only she can. A cover like this does not take anything away from the original, it only adds to it.

Every cover she does she gives it that extra feeling in it

I started listening to Tori in 1989 with Y Kant Tori Read. Love all her stuff. I have come and gone with her music, but she continues to be a constant in my life. This is exquisitely her, as a cover.

Once again, proof of just how awesome Tori really is.

Boys for pele changed my life, tori changed my taste in music...I just love her, she is the SINGER in my life. (I do prefer her own song, but this is quite nice)

This song gives me chills...Tori is an amazing musician and when she sings ballads it's truly magical

I always had a soft spot for "Total Eclipse of the Heart," but this is just lovely. I think Tori's version might just be better than the original.

She gives Bonnie Tyler a real run for her money here. Brilliant.

Love her! She's the only one who can play so many different styles of music on the piano and have the perfect voice to match!

When I die, I hope my mind lets me here Tori singing this as I go into that last sleep.

If you listen her vocal is the harmony to the original if you sing the original notes. Love the magical piano nobody can do like her and her ethereal beauty goddess manifested.

I used to think only Tori brings to life a song.... but there are a few other artists out there capable of such wonderful performances, like Bonnie Tyler who gave life to this work of art... and the way Tori takes entities like "Total eclipse of the heart" and nurtures them, and gives 'em a taste of her overwhelming, never-ending passion, what more could you ask for?... I respect and apreciate, feel and understand these full of genius sweet creatures with every fiber of my being!

That song was my special love song when growing up. I still deeply love it, but you just lifted it up with so much emotions... your voice is incredible and you are a gifted musician.

She has breathed new life into this song.

What I find is that she always finds a way to make a song her own, instead of doing what many other performers do and rip it straight off. You don't have to like the way she does it, but you can't deny at least she puts her own mark on them.

I’m 90% certain I passed this woman by the river in Inverness, Scotland earlier this year. I’ve always loved this rendition and wish I’d had the courage to say hello.

I like a few of Tori's songs but must admit im not a great fan of all her stuff, but there is no question she is a very talented musician/songwriter and has a great ability to cover songs in her own style that make them sound her own.

she killed it alright silky smooth vocal on point with passion and feeling you could listen to he piano work in the background and have a totally unique experience just focusing on that and letting the vocal be the background or vice versa some people are so programmed to have a song sound the same as it always has they miss the pure mastery of a MASTER ARTIST.

I'm quite surprised so many people don't like this - I think its a wonderful and very Tori interpretation of the Bonnie Tyler classic which I also like a lot...BT's best I think.

This song originally came out when i was in middle school and i had such a love/hate relationship with it :) But absolute love with Tori's cover! This is just gorgeous, it is on "repeat" on my player often! Just yummy.

I love artists who can take a song and make it completely their own; showcasing the lyrics to perfection and outclassing the original by miles. Like Marilyn Manson with Sweet Dreams...and like this. This is absolutely superb and I am completely and utterly in love with Tori and her honesty and purity. Goosebumps.
