TOPWATER Fly Fishing CHALLENGE (Snakehead Fish on the Fly Rod)
Ойын-сауық
I wanted to challenge myself. Since childhood I've always loved fly fishing. Not only for trout but Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Smallmough Bass, and Saltwater species like Striper, Bluefish, Sea Trout, Snook, etc. I've absolutely fallen in LOVE with Snakehead fishing. Not only for the trill of catching large fish on topwater, but because they make delicious table fare as well. I've learned a lot targeting these fish this year and challenged myself to catch a Snakehead on the fly rod before the end of summer. I went shopping for a few fly patterns that would give me the best chance at success. On top of my personal challenge. Bill has never landed a snakehead so I challenged him to catch one on regular tackle before caught one with a Fly Rod.
I used my 10wt Colton Fly Rod. Paired with my Large Arbor Orvis Reel. Very overkill, but with Heavy Flies you need a heavy rod. This 8wt Orvis Fly Fishing Combo looks perfect for this...

Might be a little over kill but then again you don’t know if there’s a hog waiting for you either. I traded my roadie yeti cooler for a brand new Adams Built 8wt custom with the owner of Adams. And ended up putting a lamson liquid Arbor on it. Ready to try for some big Lahonton Cutthroat once Pyramid lake opens.
*Love the Hoover Boys... HATE SNAKE HEADS*
Hell yeah! Woke up from a good night sleep and get a new fishing video.

Hey Kurt , nice catch on the fly rod. I'm an old bass fisherman . Try fishing slow and if they miss it , let it sit there and maybe give it a twitch here and there. Let him think the bait is crippled . Give them a chance to come back for the easy second try . Fishing is a blast !
Those are some wicked looking fish dude..lol
Sweet fishing video, I love to fly fish myself. Congratulations on the first snakehead on a fly rod.

Hello Hoover Boys. Good video this. FR action always fun. You nailed it, coming out of BG fish retirement w FR. While I don't want any more invasive species in the US, opportunity to fish for and eat these fish would be a blast. Several other channels have done catch n cook. Will look forward to more from you.
Dude, y'all are rough on poor ol Billy!
Good ole dun, maybe I’ll see you there one day
That snakehead had such a nice pattern, great vid man

Snake Heads look like what we call Grinnell down here in East Texas. One ugly fish though. 😊
Love the fishing videos as much as the detecting videos! I saw the fly rod and got a little excited, we don't have snakeheas here in Oklahoma but we have plenty of bass , I to my own flies and it makes it that much better, I do Chase gar with the fly rod occasionally.

I have just started using UV resin in my fly tying, I'm still a little bulky with my materials on the shad and bluegill patterns. I picked up a 5/6 weight fly rod today at a pawn shop , now I have something a little lighter than my 8 weight that I have been using for several years. Keep the videos coming, no matter how many times I watch them they are better than anything on TV right now .
Outstanding effort. I flyfish out of a kayak for redfish for the last 15 years. I don't use pedals but consider bringing a towel, get it wet and cover up all those snags. Great fishing bro!

Excellent idea! Thank you. I love fishing for reds!
I’m seating here eating fried catfish, watching your video ! True story !!
Whippy sticker🤣🤣
It was that pause as you got your line off your pedal. Those predatory fish might not be hungry, but that fly pausing is too good for them to pass up.
Two questions; 1) I'd think a normal tippet wouldn't handle a snakehead. Do you use something special? 2) Pedaling through hydrilla. I've tried with a Hobie mirage drive and, between the fins and rudder, it was slow, hard going. I assume the prop might cut through the hydrilla better but that still leaves the rudder (which got hung up more for me). I have Hobie Lynx so I have to use a rudder otherwise I go where the wind and current take me. Congratulations on taking the snakehead on a fly.
Did you just fart? LOL Thanks for sharing your adventure. :)
Where else can I find snakeheads on a fly rod and Midnight Express references!? 😂 Nice catch brother! 👍

Cool fishing you should try false albacore on the fly from boat or shore! If you come up to Ct September October I would take you out for them we have a lot of Spanish mackerel now .

Next time your in the OBX, look up “Fly Girl”! She charters out of Oregon inlet and does fly fishing trips! She’s one of the best at getting you on fish!
If we are stuck with these things for ever, maybe we could come up with a more appealing name for them.
Beautiful reflections on ya lake , nice fish if it is a fish?
Thankfully there's no snakeheads here! But last year the bighead carp was found in the rivers I fish.

I hated the idea of them at first. I really enjoy catching and eating them now. There isn't any getting rid of them now. They'll be everywhere eventually
Never knew fish like that exist, why is it called that snake 🐍 head, didn't look like snake more like a pike. That water 💦 lovely clear too.

Their an invasive species from Asia. Showed up here in 2002. They've completely taken over now. They do look like a snake in many ways. Their making are exactly like a ball python. The water was nice and clear this day.
Great video. Have you considered a stripping basket to help keep your line from getting tangled on your boat?
i would love to catch a snake head one day
Where did u get that frog for the fly fishing thank u
Hey what do you put in your foo foo juice cause I think that I'm going to get it?
Was that up from slaven’s?
I know they are an invasive species. How long have they been in the waters in MD? I haven’t fished the rivers in MD 35-40 years.
Damn ! Eat him right away with a beer lol
