Topeak UTF Multi-mount GPS Bike Computer / Light / Camera Dual-sided Mount Review - feat Aluminium

With the number of cycling electronics and gadgets these days it’s easy to have a cluttered handlebar. Cycling GPS computers, action cameras and bike lights can take up valuable handlebar space and be distracting while riding. Topeak’s answer to this is what they call an Up-To-Front (UTF) Multi-Mount that allows you to securely mount your gear directly in front of the stem. With a retail price of $44.95 the UTF Mult-Mount offers a rigid aluminium construction and dual-sided design. Topeak includes adapters for Garmin, Wahoo, GoPro and even Topeak’s Ridecase products with the mount. Thanks to the dual clamp design, the UTF Mult-mount is also capable of handling up to 480 grams weight which should be enough for heavy combinations such as a GoPro and large GPS computer.
The Topeak UTF Multi-Mount has a simple aluminium construction with a T-shaped profile. Two horizontal arms attach to each of the clamps while the center portion extends directly forward of the stem with a center cutout. Even though the mount is fairly short there is enough space for even large GPS computers or bigger bike lights like the Magicshine RN 3000. Topeak only offers the UTF Multi-Mount in the semi-black finish which should match well with most bike setups. As with most Topeak products the hardware and construction is premium and well thought out. Aside from the attachment pucks, the UTF Multi-Mount is all aluminum metal and feels rigid.

Thanks for the review! Do I see it correctly that with the single bolt clamp design you'll have to disassemble the handlebar and slide them on from the ends to install? Or can the clamps be forced open wide enough to go over the handlebar?

Installation is pretty straightforward, you don't need to dissemble anything on your handlebars. With the bolts removed from each clamp arm you can just stretch it over the handlebars and then attach the front mount.

Excellent review! Any idea what is the width between the dual-sided mount & the width of each single mount? Considering for aero handlebar series e.g Pro Vibe Aero etc..

I'm not sure which dimension your asking about. The distance between outer edge of the clamps is 2.5" while the mounts are approximately 2.75" forward. It mounts pretty close to the stem so it should fit within the round portion of aero bars. Otherwise Topeak does cell center mounts for one-piece aero bar/stems.

is it possible to change the angle of the mount itself, so that the gps device is tilted, too?

You could angle the entire bracket on your handlebar to achieve that. If you use a bottom GoPro mount, that would let you adjust your light / camera to be parallel with the ground again.

Nice review! I have a question: Do the clamps are made of plastic or aluminium?

  • @TheSweetCyclists

    @TheSweetCyclists

Thanks. The clamps are plastic with a one bolt design, so you have to flex them over your handlebars to install or remove them. The main part of the mount is metal though and unless you put heavier lights off the front it's a sturdy mount.

i just ordered a element bolt v2, and have a cateye light, will I be able to use both with this mount ? I love that i don't have to integrate it into the stem, but it looks as if it is.

Yes. The UTF comes with a Wahoo adapter you can put on top. You'll need a GoPro to Cateye adapter to put the Cateye light on the bottom though - something like this www.cateyeamerica.com/cateye-gopro-compatible-headlight-bracket/5445340/

5:21 if you flip it to the high position, can you mount the gopro in the upright position?

  • @TheSweetCyclists

Interesting question. Yes, I think you can either swap the Garmin / GoPro inserts from top to bottom or just flip the entire front section as it looks pretty symmetric. The great thing about Garmin / GoPro is that you can easily get adapters between them so you could leave the Garmin insert on top for your GPS computers and then use a Garmin to GoPro adapter if you wanted to put on a GoPro camera.

So you would also need to buy a Garmin/GoPro mount ($15-20) to attach to the light in order to have the light below and computer on top? Total $60-70 Is that right ? Thanks

No, you have that right out of the box. The UTF mount includes: 1x GoPro, 1x Garmin/ Wahoo (rotate it to switch between), and 1x Topeak Ridecase adapter. If you want Garmin on top and bottom you can easily buy $5 GoPro to Garmin adapters to accomplish that.

@@dixonbidenzmouth4115 No problem. That's a great setup. The Magicshine RN 1200 should include a GoPro-Garmin adapter which lets you mount it to the GoPro bottom mount and easily adjust the angle.
