Wow Dave but thats a hell of a lot of work to get a RAW file back from Topaz. I hope they fix this issue real quick. BTW when you try to locate your file on a Windows PC you do it via File Explorer. Thanks for another gr8 video Dave

Hi Dave. For Windows: File Explorer = Finder. Open = Export (the first time you will have to use Open With and find Topaz PhotoAi - then select Always Use and from then on it remembers. All works as you describe and you can then use profiles on the DNG (which is the only advantage I can see over TIF).

Thanks Dave. I actually worked this work around the same way and feel reassured that you have shown this. I actually compared this to having a new layer within Photoshop open up Topaz AI and found that Topaz does a better job editing raw images like your process here rather than within Photoshop. The only downside is the slow processing(in my computer) as well as the big .dng files it creates, but result is worth it. I actually managed to save a file yesterday of a bird in flight high up in the sky with lots of noise and not so sharp and heavily cropped to quite a good result.

I'm amazed, you have to come up with such a path first. Thanks for showing.

Thank you! And I thought that there was something wrong with my setup in my computer and was trying to find what went wrong and why PhotoAI 3.01 was returning a TIFF file to LR instead of a DNG file. It drove me crazy. I am glad that it is a PhotoAI issue not a my computer issue :)

Thanks Dave just tried this and it works perfectly on mac. I didn’t need to copy and paste settings they mostly got applied when syncronised. I had a setting to check metadata selected, only 1 out of 10 images had the wrong profile applied on import back into Lightroom Classic.

Thanks Dave for the work around. Did the round trip to Photo AI make a slight change to exposure and color tint?

Dave - the Topaz folks tell me that the next version - i.e. Version 3.0.2 - willl fix this problems. Can’t come soon enough for me!

I found that it would not export back - so I reinstalled the previous version 3.0 - I will wait for the update

My workflow is from PS. Topaz 3.0.1 won’t save the layer in PS. Topaz has acknowledged the problem but has yet to fix it. IMO they need to do better. I’m ready to give up on the app which is slow in any event. DxO works great.

I'm sure they are working on it. Hopefully your issue will be corrected soon.

It's a workaround and it acceptable for one or two pictures. But if you have a lot of pictures all the steps that are necessary aren't practicable. Topaz has fix this bug as soon as possible.

Thank you Dave . I need you to do a video showing me the exact differences between DNG and TIFF I must be missing something because I see no problem . Fuji raw file ‘edit with ‘ TPai . I cannot fathom out or see any significant differences . I don’t get it as to why you are unhappy ..where are the differences..are they significant or are they down to pixel peeping on a 32 inch monitor . I must be missing something

When you return the image as a Tiff file to Lightroom Classic, you no longer have the ability to use Profiles designed for RAW files. You can use a standard Adobe Color or Monochrome Profile. The normal adobe and camera specific Profiles are not available for Tiff files. I like to start my Photoshop Edits with a Linear Profile and you don't have that option if you use a Tiff File.

Thank you Dave . Have you done a YT about color profiles and Topaz Photo Ai and problems . For example if an Adobe Black and White Profile is applied in LR Classic on a Nikon Neff file ..the returned tiff to LR is broken and cannot be displayed .

Or you could just use version 2.4.2 that works for me in windows

You need to use Open With and hunt for Topaz PhotoAi - the first time - you can then set it to always open the Raw with PhotoAI to avoid this again. So just use Open instead of Export once you right click inside the Explorer folder (the equiv of Finder) - just tried it and it works fine - once you Sync the folder to reimport the DNG

I have really tried to include this software in my workflow, but each time it demonstrates an unusable result in one way or another. Apparently even basic testing is now done by the users. The worst is the lack of precision in transitions when a mask is introduced. At 100 percent it never fits, and artifacts are all over the place. Upscaling makes round objects like wheels multi-edged. Noisereduction can be distributed randomly in the background. Lately sombody found a grid pattern in the output. Grids are apparently a part of the AI geometry, and long ago when I and others identified a grid in the shadow areas with the Denoise AI, Topas Labs 'couldn't replicate the problem'. Etc., etc. 'It's almost there,' some people claim; yes, like when a dog closes in on its tail. But if you never zoom in to one-to-one and never inspect the details with challenging images, you will keep loving this product.
