I'm retired and live in Prineville. I love it. 3 blocks from almost all my medical needs, friendly people, quiet, peaceful, close to large towns with many cultural events, a wide range of outdoor activities, and affordable. Perfect spot for a grizzled old country boy like me!
I agree that Hood River would be a good place to retire…if you can afford it. Median home prices are around 600k I believe. I grew up in the hood river valley and love living here but cost of living is high for a rural area. Something to consider
Oregon state tax for retired military is confusing, you only get to claim it to the year 1991, unlike Michigan and Arizona which do not tax retired military pensions.
Don't retire in Oregon. The state government will impoverish you (or your survivors) via estate taxes. Wife and I moved to Vancouver solely due to the terrible Oregon estate taxes.
