He won't take responsibility. He's lucky to even be in the position he's in, getting paid millions to set England up to deliver that kind of performance. Eventually it will come to an end and he won't be on a salary of 5 million, but it's in his interest not to take any blame or indicate that he just might have had a hand in England's shambolic performance.

The rest of the time it’s a snore fest of them passing back to Pickford or a complete mess. And then things like Bellingham saying they played well and referring to valid criticism as “rubbish” plus Southgate refusing to change lineup or tactics or admitting mistakes comes across as arrogance and delusion. It’s almost like they’re gaslighting the fans and pundits.

He's talking as though the team has technical shortcomings, when in fact its about HIS tactical acumen (missing) and repeating the same mistakes over and over (a form of madness). However, I also think the team lack urgency, except when they are on the brink - which is usually too late. A very lucky man.

Guys can we just remember that england won. How many times have we seen england "play well" and lost. 96, 98 etc etc. As a Liverpool fan we have played awfully and still won. This isn't gymnastics, you don't get points you just win or lose. With football becoming so uniform the blue print of defending and attacking is there for all to see. Games are tighter now. We don't see 4-0 or even 3-0 that often. Like him or not Southgate has helped us defeat so many past demons. Beating Germany in a major tournament, getting to a final, winning on penalties, winning in extra time. The man has won more knockout games than nearly any other england manager. We give him stick, bellingham goes from hero to zero in a matter of 2 games. This isn't the way other countries support their teams. We should back our lads and not be so quick to complain.

In the second half, Slovakia were barely trying. England were just SHIT, but I wouldn’t say Slovakia were robbed, they barely had any shots in the second half

Lots of negativity here, as a foreigner watching the English game, there was every reason England should have made it 1-1 in regular time, so it would have gone into extended regardless. Yes, it could be better, but it wasn't the near-catastrophe commenters here portray it as.

Absolutely abysmal football from start to finish. Says it all when we get a goal ahead of the 50th ranked nation, and we sit 11 men behind the ball for the remaining 30 minutes. Spineless.

I tell you what, this England team in first and second half, every player had a second touch , which is even 500ms slower, the opponent already can predict our move, wheras in Man city or Madrid for instance, all the 1 touch pass makes the team unpredictable in attack, do whatever it takes to accomplish that, Spain can do that, don't blame the pitch anymore
