Half the time there isn't a left wing as Foden keeps disappearing into the middle of the pitch, Trippier was left far too often looking up and not having a forwards pass because there was nobody there.

The real problem is that we never produce elite managers. No English manager has ever won the Premier League or the Champions League, with any club. And managers win trophies, not players.

Because of Southgate’s ignorance and lack of tactical awareness, our top players have played extra minutes ahead of the Swiss game. Anyone who thinks we have a chance against Switzerland is kidding themselves, we have played probably the worst football I’ve seen since Capello days and took 93 minutes to have a shot on goal against Slovakia. Tournament ends on Saturday, easy 2-0, 3-0 defeat coming our way.

Slovakia were playing the reputation of the English, and not the actual team up against them. They went far too defensive, far too quickly. Maybe it was the nerves of playing in the last 16, but their goal proved to me that England is not up for this defensively - Slovakia played through them with ease. A braver team could've got five or six good chances, and a better team would convert a few of those chances.

It’s not because he is a nice guy that he has kept his job,it’s because he says the right things that the FA like to hear. He is a moral coward, he only kept his job at Middlesbrough due to the owner being a nice guy and a personal friend, but even Gibson had to fire him out in the end. People defend his record! I ask what record?coming second means you are the first of the losers, you have not won anything by coming second. He has had some wonderful players at his disposal but is clueless as how to use them. The two stand out comments from him demonstrating his lack of understanding, one, was the Kalvin Philips comment, and the other the Luke Shaw statement. What was the idea of taking a left footed player who was never going to get a game due to his injury situation. That alone is testament to his utter incompetence. England fans can accept defeat if the team has played well and given their all, what they can’t accept is the p*** poor performances which are the results of the manager’s instructions.

Southgate was talking after the match as if his game plan was to get a throw in the 94 minute, draw level with a bicycle kick and then get Tony to do an assist in injury time to score the winner and that's why he brought Tony on with seconds to go and didn't replace Bellingham sooner. The "game plan" he produced and the substitutions he produced actually lead to England not having a shot on target for 94 minutes after going 1-0 down. The whole team is unbalanced and suffocated and rescued themselves in the 94th minute despite Southgates plans not because of them.

I noticed that too - he was confidently talking about knowing his team would score last minute and that Toney would make the difference in extra time - he also explained his plan by telling the press he’d shown the players footage of ‘66 before the tournament started, and this had made the difference in securing the result. Bizarre stuff again from Southgate.

Looking at England from another country, you have some of the best players. But they look so scared to play and be themself.

Why can’t the FA/ Southgate think our best players play for teams that play similar styles of football. So when they get to England we’ll do the same. Echos of Italy in this tournament, not good enough, last night's result was the same as when Italy scored that injury time goal to get through, yes great, they're through but were put to the sword by the Swiss, and they'll do exactly that to England due to Southgates and senior players belligerence.

@@philwill0123 100%. Conversely, I actually think Southgate would have been a great manager for that generation. They had Terry, Cole, Rio, Carra, Neville et all. Polar opposite to this crop of players were the talent it the other end of the pitch. That gen had Rooney, no other true consistent outlet, whereas 2024 has at least 5 goal scorers

Did Simon just say the audacity of fans and pundits and fans to criticise? What planet are you on. Everyone has a right to an opinion especially when 99% of people have the same obvious assertion that england were lucky, and unless we change our tactics and make tweaks to personnel (no one is saying entire team!) than we won't win! Isn't that the entire point to win! People are criticising in the hope that southgate will listen and be humble enough to say I'm wrong and we need to change. But he is arrogant and stubborn like Simon who have an inability to show humility and actually listen. When will the football world realise that this is an entertainment business and fans spend a fortune watching their team wanting entertaining football. The reason you lost 50 million was not one player missing a penalty but stupid business decisions- take accountability!

What is the point of picking players who do not play in a certain positions. There are players who play in positions who can play there for the international team. But the england managers pick someone who plays right midfield and plays him left back as an example. Why do they do this?

The media are now finally realising what the fans knew years ago. Southgate is tactically inept and not even good enough to manage a League 1 team

Jude Bellingham's goal is probably the goal of the tournament so far. But we cannot rely on individual brilliance to win games all the time.

The players are grown men and are as culpable as Southgate. Too many bog-standard players getting found out, too many who look as if they are making up quotas. What has Saka done? Hasn't beat a single man. Compare his performances with Musiala's and Spain's Yamal, both full of running, skill, energy and shots and crosses. Saka has done nothing and no one has even mentioned it. Our pundits are as clueless as our team.

two things... He is either desperately stubborn or completely incompetent. Either way no outcome of those options are good traits. Secondly, I think this Euro's has proved (similar to the golden generation) that we simply have zero individual world class players. A player that individually can direct a team, grab the game by the scruff of its neck and win it, and these players only really play well in good international teams.

BS! The players looked scared on that pitch yesterday. Many of the players were hiding and avoiding being a passing option, or just playing the safe pass. Last night was on the players, you don’t need a manager to beat Slovakia

But what if...that's actually the case? Seriously, with no bias involved, what if that is what's happening? What if Southgate had easy groups and easy knockout games in 3 out 4 tournaments? Was Southgate ever good enough or experienced enough to get the England job? He's always going to be questioned, given the circumstances. We would currently be the holders of the European championships trophy if we had a better manager, no doubt at all. We wasted a generation of talent on a guy that never had the credentials to be the England boss.

It's a fact that he was tactically outmanoeuvred by a better manager in the final of the last Euros, despite being at home and going 1-0 up. It's a fact that his team is unblanced due to his squad selections and playing players in positions they probably aren't suited to. It's a fact that he has been tactically inept and outplayed in this tournament and Kane and Bellingham scoring a couple of random goals has saved his bacon. That conjecture too? It's also a fact that he's been defeated by nearly every decent team he's faced too. Barring Germany, who themselves were going through a bad patch at the time. How much evidence or conjecture do you need before you wake up and see it for what it is? Southgate is clearly out of his depth, even his managerial career will tell you that. Should have sacked him years ago but here we are...when our own fans don't believe we can beat Switzerland with our squad, you know there's a problem here.

The swiss don't stand a chance against our no run, no attack, last minute miracle style, they won't be prepared for that unique type of Safegate play.

Width, tempo, movement, spatial awareness even with the same players would improve things, and recognition of the need for change from the management and coaches.

Remember that fantastic Spain team that won the 2010 World Cup? They scored a paltry 8 goals, yes, 8 goals with all that talent. They won all the knockout matches, and the Final, 1-0. They even lost their first group game.

things changed, significantly, when Palmer and then Toney came on so maybe that's the start of the next game and go to 4-4-2 . Is it too late to get Scholes into the coaching staff, seems to have a lot to say about Rice's role, might be worth it if he can get to Germany pronto.

Both games against Slovenia and Slovakia both those teams could have been 2-0 up in the first 10 minutes imagine what Switzerland will do

England will play better against better teams. Southgate needs to use Toney, Watkins and Eze when things go pear-shaped earlier, maybe at 60 mins
