Imagine what it was like before man arrived 800 years ago, moas which are about double the size of ostriches, haast eagles that use to swoop down on moas and take the smaller ones away (biggest eagle ever) and the noise was deafening with bird song apparently. Then Maori came and ate all the moas which also made the haast eagle extict . My home country was really fucked up by man.

The amount of content is insane for the last few weeks. Good Job!

I’m a more novice hunter, even though I grew up around hunting. This past weekend I was hunting with my cousin and he shot a small 6 point. We both learned how to field dress a deer, and after watching a lot of meat eater I decided to save the heart and try it. It was honestly really good. It felt good not to waste it. Thanks Steve 🙏

Basic info on climbing harnesses: Those loops you guys cliped into are not meant to hold any weight. They are meant to clip your gear on. If you tie in always do it on the front, the loops on the side will break very easily

Just started watching this and im hooked. People think hunting is cruel but watching this its taught me its a way of life. Its necessary. They really care about these animals as its their food

Steve.. Your opening statement was..HELL IS SPOT ON. First time I went "hunting", I had zero idea what I was getting into. My first time was with friends..scared out of my mind on what, where, when or how...But was also seriously amped up for the excitement, thrill, and beauty of it all. That was over 30 years ago. The thrill and excitement are still to be had. It's ALWAYS a joy to be able to hear, smell and watch the wilderness come alive while you sit and glass a ridge.

Not a big hunter. I do occasionally but I love anything this fella does from podcasts to this show. That says something to his talent to entertain someone who has no real dog in it

So good to know that Steve has been down here hunting in New Zealand. He's welcome back whenever he cares to come. Theres lots of different hunting experiences available here for the beginner to expert level hunters.

Its 2:30am and I'm sitting here eating a can of flaked turkey thinking " yeah I could do that" 🙄

He is fully up there with the best when it comes to clear concised and powerful narration and introductions

That's what I miss the most about home, the huts. They are literally everywhere and each one has it's own character. I am more of a hiker and the way it goes is each hut is about 2-6 hours away from the next on each track , so you walk from hut to hut. There are about 1000 of them scattered throughout NZ.

I cannot express how happy I am that this channel has taken the direction that it has. There's constantly new amazing content, and now they're even uploading old episodes of MeatEater. It's awesome!!! I hope they upload some old episodes of The Wild Within later on! Thank you to everyone who has made this happen!

I remember sitting at the foothills of the Southern Alps when a few Tahr bolted out from the trees behind me. Scared the hell out of me, first time seeing one. Also, the South Island of NZ is really one of those magical places on Earth. It really has a spiritual force.

Steve was right on the money when talking about the competing thoughts when I'm about to go high in the Alps. There is clear danger, and there is a drive to head high to enjoy the mountains and bring home some meat. He summarised it perfectly for me. I've hunted that area a lot, so many peaceful nights making my way down to the ute/camp with a heavy pack, groaning knees, sweating back, and light smile on my face. Good times.

Great to see you guys made it over to little old New Zealand for a visit and a hunt. Tahr are my favourite animal to hunt here in the mountains and wicked to see you got out there too. Keep the content coming meateaters!!

Aside from the local wild table fare in NZ, Canada goose has got to be one of my favorite fowl. Good shooting!

Steve and Remi together! Can you imagine the amount of outdoor/hunting knowledge these 2 have between them. Would love just an hour to chat with them about all of their experiences. A couple of class acts!

we have those kind of public cabins in Norway too haha. But i think you might have to be part of the national hunting and fishing association to get a key or a map of where they are, I dont remember quite. We slept in some of them when we went on hunts and fishing trips with my high school

He's an amazing chef who like Steve uses traditional foods from different cultures and combines or alters the techniques and recipes with amazing results. I bet he could help Steve figure out other ways to solve some of the different cooking problems associated with different game meats. They're both funny as heck and specialize in creating new recipes and are definitely open to new experiences like hunting, as you can tell from their Netflix cooking shows, "The Chef Show" and "Ugly Delicious". I bet Steve could take them on a hunt based around what type of game they want to experiment with and make 2 episodes out of it! Take care y'all!
