    The last jump was perfection - pole hardly bent, and no sideways bending, absolutely straight when he let it go. That would have given him the height he needed.

    Thiago is one of the most underrated athletes of all time, he is not recognized even in his country. When he won gold they said it was luck and blamed the crowd for booing Lavillenie. I was so happy that he managed to get back on the podium in Tokyo, he deserves a lot of recognition, he made history

    @@victorcrespo2232 to be fair, he attempted 6.19m at the Olympics after he cleared 6.02m. He nearly got it but time will tell that Duplantis will surely break Thiago Braz's Olympic record.

    Normally the only injury is getting hit in the head with the pole or bottoming out in the cloud 9..when I started in 1970 we had a sawdust pit to land in. Quite a few of us got hurt badly back then.

    This is beautiful! The instant where pole vaulters are inverted and in mortal danger but the convert upward energy to arc over the bar is ultimate victory! They seem to start smiling once they clear the bar - "I got it! I kicked death in the a** again!"

    He almost broke the Olympic record by a mile. He attempted to break his World Record by going 6.19m but narrowly misses. We will have to wait at Paris 2024 for it to happen tho. Duplantis is built different.

    Bupka was by far best breaking 20’ several times. But Lavillenie finally beat the Beamon of pole vaulting and has world record at 20’2.5” “once”-Bupka held 30 years. Pole vaulters (men and women) maybe the best athletes in world - speed balance timing upper body body control. And as sports go not one that completely destroys your body.

    There are some mistakes on the video. The brazilian Tiago Braz has broken the olimpic record in Rio 2016. The French Lavilenie did the same in London 2012, not in 2010, like was showed.
