By the way the term "Bogey" does not mean enemy. It means basically an unidentified contact that can possibly be an adversary. If it is eventually identified as enemy, then it is called "Bandit" ;)

As much as I love this movie, they really did a disservice to many generations growing up calling bandits bogeys.

@@gofastERWell... Definitely in the opening part of the movie where Maverick uses the term Bogey, the use of this term is perfectly legit. They have unknown radar contacts that are approaching the fleet and are not communicating. This perfectly fits the term Bogey. That is why they continue to merge with the contacts in order to visually identify them and confirm whether those contacts are really bandits, or perhaps a just a civilian jet with broken radio. :)

    1. An old shipmate of mine was on the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men and the men working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a super cool movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. Goose is the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) radar, communications and navigation. 8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space. 9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano' She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood(not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV. 12. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder". It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seem like they were practicing.

I spent most summers on that base as a child, played basketball/racquetball, squash,, worked out, volleyball, and jogged with a number of Top Gun pilots during the 80's💙. One of my favorite movies of all time.

The song "You've Lost that Loving Feeling " which is the song he sang to her the first time they met, is the most requested song of the 20th century. You should watch the video of the Righteous Brothers singing it back in the 1960's. Note: they weren't blood brothers. 😊

Depends on if he reached the 8 years required of a navy aviator, he could resign his commission if he had (which is dumb to do for anyone at the rank of a O3) but its not like quitting a civilian job. There is still a process that everyone goes through.

Anthony Edwards (maverick’s buddy) was in a movie by BeeGees singer Barry Gibb, “Hawks” (1989). The other lead actor in that movie was Timothy Dalton - after filming “Hawks” he made his first James Bond movie: “the Living Daylights.” His second Bond movie was “license to kill.” Please consider reacting to them. “Hawks” is excellent but not well-known. It’s a romantic comedy drama.
