I remember my first time at the drag races. I was about 10 years old, I'm almost 60 now. My cheap ass Dad snuck me in through the back, into the pit yard. I actually got to meet Don Prudhomme. @zesolodar I started going when I was a kid in the 60s. Of course, they didn't have this kind of power. My uncle had a front engine dragster and raced at several tracks in Colorado. Later, in the 80s, I remember you could stand almost next to the track at Bandimeer Speedway west of Denver, CO. A car's blower belt or something broke, sending shrapnel everywhere. To a teenager....that was awesome!!!! And BOY....could you feel the cars. It made your bones want to rattle out of your skin. You had to remember not to inhale when they went by. It can get in your blood. I raced my muscle cars for about 10 yrs in club racing. My siblings still race. It is a great way to spend the weekend, get some blood pumping.

That "Best day of my life" at the end actually brought a tear to my eye. So glad this guy got to EXPERIENCE (because that's what it is) this in his life. You just can't adequately describe what the experience is like to people. Yeah, it's loud but that's only part of it. You can really FEEL the concussions from the engines as they rip on by. And if you're lucky enough to have pit passes* when they're tuning those things you'll REALLY get to feel the potato sack being slammed into your chest when they blip the throttle. Oh, and you'll find little pieces of rubber stuck to your face when you look in the mirror later on. * I HIGHLY recommend ear and eye protection. Ears for the noise and eye protection for the nitro-methane fumes which will make your eyes water, big time.

Honestly this is a perfect KZread video. I remember when they were pretty much all like this, very small amount of editing. Just capturing humans being humans in a very raw form.

I was into musclecars when I was a teenager and went to the top fuel races. It was unreal. I remember walking up, still behind the bleachers section and the cars took off and I felt it pounding my chest. Everyone should experience that once, even if you're not into cars, it's other-worldly.
I drag raced motorcycles for 21 years, it's not just the sound it's the feeling in your chest! I raced a Modified Harley Davidson and I Miss the old days at the drag strip.
I was able to experience Top Fuel a few years ago. I will never forget that day. The pits, the launch, the fly-bys. Easily a top 5 memory for me.

Man, the pits. Equally as jarring and awesome when hearing the engines in the pits. Good times, good times.

True story! I'm still wearing my old worn Budweiser hat I got when I went with my late dad to the Winter Nationals in Pomona in the early/mid 2000's or so IIRC. Having worked around the area I heard the "Godzilla" sounds many times, but nothing prepares for your first time standing trackside as two Top Fuel or Funny Cars roar by you! It never gets old! That was one of my fondest memories with my dad. I think about him every time I wear it and every time I see an NHRA event on TV.

Haven't gone in several years (probably 15 now); They never cease to knock people's socks off. I imagine the only thing that could compete with this would be seeing the Space Shuttle launch. I even took my future wife to the Gatornationals , right down to the pits and stood next to a Top Fueler warming up doing a driveline check--setting the clutch (this was back when you could stand alongside the cars).
