  • @fasttrackkeys

    @fasttrackkeys

    9 ай бұрын

    Hi Chris, I haven’t played the keyscape ones yet but it’s definitely better than the analog lab ones in my opinion. It’s the way it reacts to your playing that’s the big difference as it’s recorded in 127 different velocity layers. So it’s the closest thing I’ve played to a real Steinway if you combine it with a great 88 key weighted MIDI keyboard 👍🎹

    Even though I already have a Roland RD-2000 Stage Piano, I'm going to get the Steinway reviewed here. I do have occasions in projects where the RD-2000 is doing duty for other things, and it'd be good to have a convincing VST piano. And you can't go wrong at the price!

  • @fasttrackkeys

    @fasttrackkeys

    9 ай бұрын

    Hi Craig, ah yes I love Roland keyboards, I've played the RD range and I also used to have a Roland Fantom X8 before I got my NI Komplete Kontrol S88. To be honest if you combine a really great VST like the Soundpaint 1928 Steinway with your Roland it will be a much higher quality as it's recorded in 127 velocity layers, which is considerably more than stage pianos. If you use your Roland as a MIDI keyboard you'd get the best of both :)

  • @CraigRodmellMusic

    @CraigRodmellMusic

    9 ай бұрын

    @@fasttrackkeys I DO use the RD-2000 as my MIDI master keyboard. I downloaded the Soundpaint 1928 Steinway last night. It turned out this is a company I have had my eye on anyway, and there are some products such as their Cor Anglais that I am going to buy when I get a bit of spare cash, to fill one or two of the gaps in BBCSO Core, which I own. On the RD-2000, the main piano sounds are modelled, rather than sampled, so I don't know that velocity layers is a factor. It also has the advantage that - since its sounds are built in, it makes for a much easier set-up at live gigs. I had a bit of a job getting the 1928 Steinway to work after I downloaded it last night. For some unknown reason, all the MIDI inputs on my DAW had become unchecked, so I couldn't get it to play a note, until I figured it out. After that, I had a lot of fun practicing Beethoven using the Soundpaint 1928 piano. Despite having the RD-2000, I can see the situation where I will need a VST like this. One example of this is in my composition "Ten Sixteen" kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYOMxdGCf6nYnLQ.html . The RD-2000 was doing duty as lead synth (and one or two other sounds), so for the big piano chords, it was simpler if I got something else to play them. In this case, the "something else" was a U-110 MIDI sound module. I know in the video, it appears that I am playing them on the RD-2000, but those piano chords are actually a U-110. That U-110 died last year, and if a similar situation arose now, I would use a VST like this 1928 Steinway. I would like to thank you personally for pointing me in the direction of this VST. I had seen it before on Soundpaint's site, but seeing it there and actually hearing it used and demonstrated is quite another thing. By the way, I DID get value out of your video, and therefore had no hesitation in giving it a like. You also got yourself a new subscriber.

    Hi Craig thanks so much for your kind words, and glad you got the 1928 Steinway working, it really is a great one. Yes soundpaint are one of my favourite sample instrument companies, as well as 8dio, Spitfire, EWQL and also Output. I’ll be doing more vst plug in reviews soon as well as Kontakt libraries. If you’d like to have a complete guide on all of the sounds I’m currently using for my productions definitely check out my free music maker toolkit which has my top picks for VSTs in instrument categories, piano, synths, bass, strings etc. Think you would really find it valuable so you can grab it for free here- www.fasttrackkeys.com/toolkit Cheers Michael

    @@fasttrackkeys Thanks, Michael. I've just had a quick flick through. I must say, it looks very professional, and obviously a lot of work went into it. Though there's a lot there that I already have, or have the equivalent of. (Ie, I have BBCSO Core, which is Spitfire's equivalent of Audio Imperia Nucleus. I'm surprised that wasn't on the list under Paid Orchestras.) I also have several hardware synths. I'm not sure that I agree with you on Subscriptions, though. $20 a month doesn't sound like a lot, right? Two caveats: 1) When people on the Internet say $20, usually what they really mean is US$20. For those whose currency is NOT US$, there's an additional cost: Currency conversion (this also applies to one-off purchases). In my case, that US$20 translates to about $36 per month. Ouch! And that's whether I use it or not. Which brings me to point 2): How much would a year or two's subscription's worth buy you? I bought BBCSO Core (on sale) for what it would cost me for 13 months subscription at US$20, which is mine to use until Kingdom Come, and I don't have to be on the 'net to use it (my Music PC is offline). And I don't have the constant Pay Pay Pay for something I will never own. Sorry, but I give subscriptions the order of the boot. And yes, I am already using the 1928 Steinway in a project. I'm doing an underwater scene, and the Soundpaint Steinway with a bit of reverb was more the sort of sound I wanted than my RD-2000's. I look forward to your upcoming reviews! Cheers Craig

    @@CraigRodmellMusic hi Craig, that’s great glad you like the guide, Ah I thought I added nucleus in there, I’ve not actually tested that one myself yet but I’ve heard great things about it. I’ll be giving it an update every year so I’ll be sure to test that one out. As for subscriptions I actually totally agree with you, I always buy my sounds up front then I have them for life. But I do think for beginners or producers who want to test out sounds to see if they want to buy individual libraries it’s great. For example splice do a rent to buy option which is great, and also composer cloud gives you the chance to test out expensive libraries that might not be the sound everyone is looking for. I used it for a month to test out the Forbidden Planet synth before eventually buying it. Glad you are loving the Steinway, look forward to putting up more free and paid vst quick reviews for people to hear the sounds of these great instruments, cheers

Just wanted to mention a potential issue with the soundpaint piano: it is limited to 64 voices of polyphony which can quickly become problematic when playing more complicated things with the sustain pedal as notes start muting themselves after reaching that limit. It's probably not a problem for most but for me it is sadly a deal breaker.

    Hi there, you can just go to programs and then if you have installed correctly you should see under piano in the left hand menu, you just double click the program you want to load, for example ‘’main 2 mic” hope that helps

    Woolly sock! Haha that’s amazing 😂 I know what you mean, the best piano vst I’ve played is actually the 8dio emotional 1928 Steinway for Kontakt, you use to have to pay for it but they now recently offer it for free so worth checking out. I use it in all my projects 👍

  • @jonos138

    @jonos138

    Ай бұрын

    @fasttrackkeys It all depends what sound you are going for. I have the 8dio steinway it is good. My current search is trying to find a bechstein that sounds like the 100 year-old Bechstein that Elton John played at Trident studios on his early albums. The piano was made famous by the Beatles, Bowie etc, but it has a certain tone on the Elton albums I love. Would be great if vst manufacturers came out with classic pianos like this. Could call it 70's Album pianos. I think there is a niche market for such a thing. I would buy it. 👍

  • @fasttrackkeys

    @fasttrackkeys

    Wow yes that definitely is a niche piano, I know East West Pianos have a Bechstein but I wasn’t that impressed with it to be honest, and it is a really old library now.
