    My personal favorite use of Claustrophobic is to narrow it's stereo field and then pair it with a brighter piano at a lower level that I push into a wide stereo field and gently flowing reverb - it ends up having this sense of being extremely close with Claustrophobic piano, but then a spacious brightness that fills the space, which for me leads to a really intimate, contemplative place. It takes a bit of mixing so it isn't obviously two pianos, but I find having most of the reverb tail being on a bright, low volume piano makes Claustrophobic shine all the more!

    I totally agree with you. I've been saying for ages that the best instruments for making music are the ones you have, not the ones you wish you had. I have had folks wonder why I use an MT-32. It's because I have one, and still find it useful. Same with my music room speakers. I use 2 RCF 12's, supplemented by a couple of tweeters - again, because these are what I have.

    For some of us who don't have an instrumental keyboard, I want to know how to change the attack. Example: If you just click the key in the keyboard roll, you get a high attack. So how do you change it?

  • @AutPen38

    @AutPen38

    Жыл бұрын

    Depends on which VST you are using. Some include a knob that allows you to alter (e.g. slow down) the attack, such that the sound fades up, but many have a fixed attack setting. Similarly, some piano ROMplers are based on many velocity layers (so the timbre changes a lot based on how hard the original piano's keys were struck) and other VST pianos are more limited and typically take up less space on your hard drive. As far as I know, there is isn't a MIDI cc for altering the attack length; it depends on the instrument itself.

    I have FL Studio, and it comes with a beautiful piano already that I use a lot. (Or did until my PC crashed). The stage grand is awesome. I think people mainly need to learn how to use their DAW. You can take the same stage grand, and change the sound of it using some of the plug ins that come with the program. You can have the piano soft, ambient, or whatever. Maybe that is sound design, but I just like seeing what the program can do, because I can't afford to buy extra VSTs and plug ins.

    @@nkogliaz Yep! But ones that are stock are also free. I was just trying to point out that you can change the sounds of some of the stock pianos to create new sounding ones. There are some other really nice downloadable free pianos that I would love to try, but forgot which ones. I'll have to see if I can find them and post them here as well.

    @@nkogliazI found one. The 1928 vintage grand Steinway from Soundpaint. I actually had the pleasure of playing a real 1928 Steinway. I think the samples they offer are better than the one I played, because the piano was tuned to precision to collect the samples.

    The main point here is a good one. Find a nice full-range piano that provides enough control over tone, envelope, etc. Then you can modify it to the musical context. that's why I am not a big fan of all these muted pianos that seem so popular. They are one-trick ponies. maintaining lots of plugins for one-off use is inefficient.

    when you play the chune, i hear some noise between each notes , i believe its the keys sounds that were recorded making the samples. i know it makes it more realistic but that bothered me a bit, it started to make annoying sounds to my ears. someone felt the same ?

    I remember when I was About 15 Yrs old (1984) all I had was my first 2 track reel to reel . If we could’ve just looked into the future and glimpsed , the museum of Musical tech at our fingertips,…Today … I just have an I-pad pro ,Cubasis 3 , bought the fire wire and C adapter’ s for usb hook up ,…and instead of going with a smaller controller, I decided to buy like a plain Williams digital piano about 250. 300 bucks …that way I’ll have the weighted keys and real feel of a piano,…worked out nicely,.. love your videos great work producing them and all the work you must put into making them,..they’re very helpful and enjoyable to watch, I’ve taught myself & played piano and Guitar ever since back then, my biol/ father is a Jazz Pianist but split when I was 2 , but I owe a lot to my grandad who bought my first reel to reel for me ,..sending me on a dubbing spree,.. Wonderful sounding creation you’ve made Keep ‘em comin
