Does it really have better battery life?

I just bought a mid 2015 MacBook Pro 15" sick machine, the best, every thing about it is awesome. Bought it at Best Buy $1,799.00 - I actually did buy the 2017 MBP, returned it in less than 24 hours, the 2015 is a keeper.

My friend I have been noticing screen freezing on boot up, and now intermittent short screen freezing while navigating online and with several tabs open using Chrome, ever experience this with yours. I am kinda bummed because I don't want to return it. If I do return this model I will exchange it for another new one same model tho, I will not buy 2017 model no matter what.

USB(C) X4 and no connectivity, I would have had to invest a couple of hundred in adapters for adapters just to charge my phone, connect a flash drive. love the jazz and your calming voice!!! i returned the 2017 model after my 2 weeks - could never get used to the keyboard (it's insanely loud as well), the touch bar made simple things like volume/brightness adjustment more complicated, and the battery life was horrible

I appreciate that ratchet heaux! Yeah that keyboard is loud. And touchbar still feels like a beta device right now. Still hoping Apple finds a way to make it great though.

I still have a 2015 MacBook Pro. unreal laptop. with all the ports and design and performance. highly recommended.

I got the 13" 2015 model with 256GB and I love it. Nailed it for 550$ in pristine condition and 90% battery health :D

I got a 13" 2015 w/ 256 ssd and 16gb ram for 700 USD. Only 188 cycles on the battery. Definitely made the right choice.

I just bought the 2015 15" MBP i7/16GB/256GB SSD for $600 w/ 61 battery cycle count. It was an older gentleman's laptop and it's mint. I just bought a new charger for it and that's about it. Still less than $700 and I got an amazing laptop. Personally its the best laptop Apple has launched and its a shame that they went the direction that they did. I hope you enjoy your laptop as much as I am.

Bought this for my college freshman. Best purchase I ever made. Did all my research before hand comparing it to the newer MacBook Pros, and soon realized going back in time was the best way to go. My freshman thanked me for buying the 2015 and not the 2016 they wanted. Why? Everyone's newer Macs stopped working or they froze and glitched or they could not cope with the cost of the adapters. Not an issue with the 2015. On a student budget that is a BIG deal. My number one reason for buying the 2015 was the ports for my freshman. With all the things they have to charge and download, it made sense to purchase the 2015.

My current workhorse and upgraded with a 2TB Samsung SSD (970 EVO NVMe M.2 - fast, fast, fast !!!) and useful ports. Why oh why won't Mac release a version with the older ports ? I've also just seen some of the horror stories about the 2016-18 keyboards including $700 in warranty repairs - WTF !!!

Great video. To me the 2015 MBP is the LAST good MBP Apple has made. The keyboard, the MagSafe, the ports, the logo, the price... It’s all good! I have a late 2013 and if I upgrade, it’ll be to a 2015 model 😊👍🏻

Its a huge upgrade, the 2015 has upgraded the 5th gen processors and the 2013-2014 i think it was the Haswell processors (4th gen)

I just bought a used mid-2015 MacBook Pro and I'm completely happy with it, after retiring the first Retina MacBook Pro. I also noticed the Vogler book on your desktop. I teach parts of his analysis in workshop, so I'm happy to see another scribe.

I just bought a 2015 15" MacBook Pro this year for like $350 on eBay, and it's one of the best buys I've ever made! I had been wanting to get the new M1 MacBook Pro 16" since it came out, but the price was just too steep for me at the moment. So I figured I would give the 2015 a shot, and it really holds up pretty darn well even now in 2022. I'm using Catalina and runs just fine, and I use pretty heavy, intense graphics programs like Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, even Blender for light 3 dimensional work. The main reason for getting the M1 at some point would be for heavier 3d and After Effects work. But for the price, the 2015 MacBook Pro is a great value.

I own a 2013 and a 2015 MBP Retina. They’re loaded and brought them from Mac Techs on EBay. They handle multiple programs running simultaneously. IMovie and FCP at the same time without a glitch.

I did it to see how much my equipment can handle a work load. And it didn’t disappoint me. Mind you one was doing the work while the other one was just open. No spinning ball of death in sight.

I mainly chose this because of the reliability issues and soldered ssds with the news ones. Thunderbolt 3 is a great port, trackpad is nice, touchbar is s fine touch. However for the two major cons i can't justify buying any of the new ones.

I am also going to buy the 2015 version this Week... I think it‘s definitely a good choice!

Until late 2019 this was the best MacBook apple ever made because the MacBook lineup was a mess from 2016-2019 with the butterfly keyboard and bad cooling but I still miss the ports

I paid $280 for 2015 with i7 2.8ghz, 512gb, 16ram and dual graphic cards.. when i saw the ad i quickly ran to get it😏👍 Battery still good he barely used it.

I'm getting mine soon as a secondary laptop. 😊

I recently bought a Late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" all maxed out. It's my first Macbook and I totally agree that the 2012 - 2015 models are simply the best. The hardware might be slower but it's still a beast of a machine and you can't beat the dongle-less life. Can stick a Nifty Minidrive into the SD card slot to increase the capacity of the computer too.

I want a macbook pro because I want to use Final Cut Pro. Final cut pro is only for Mac os and also I want to switch Operating systems from windows 10 to mac. Even trying mac os, it is so satisfying and I cannot stop using this operating system. I

I own a Late 2016 MBP and often thought that I should‘ve bought the 2015 model...battery life is a disaster when working with high-performance applications and the touchbar is simply unnecessary. (I use it just to display the function keys.) I also miss the SD card slot a lot. But there are also positive aspects: the display quality is simply gorgeous and I totally love that giant trackpad the 2016 model has.

There are pros and cons to either computer. I agree the 2016 model has the better, brighter screen and I liked the bigger track pad as well. Too bad about your issues with the 2016 model though. Hope you find a resolution to that...

I wanted to get a 1 TB/2TB SSD storage with 2.8ghz CPU and Radeon R9 dedicated Graphics

I purchased a used 2015 version on 2019 Now is 2020, I am still happy with it; for people who bought new 2017 version on 2017 instead of brand new 2015 will regret.

I used to be thinking of getting the new macbook but after the battery expanding recall thing im going to get the 2015 version because no major faults.

Cool video! I have a late model 2013 MBP and it works great with FCPX & other applications. I wish you could upgrade from 16 to 3gb but that's ok. I'm happy that its elegible for the new mac upgrade and FCPX is getting better. I have my mac plugged into my 2 LG 34" monitors via thunderbolt/displayport and its beautiful. All I really want is an external GPU (8-10 tb) and I'll be in nirvana.

2013-2015 13" rMBP are all basically the same. As with all Apple Macbooks each year of the same style model is just a tiny bump. I've owned them all and ran them side by side with almost no difference running tests. Tiny ram speed bumps and tiny processor bumps made no major difference.

The late 2013 and mid 2014 MacBook pros are basically the same, and 2015 get's all the credit

My first Mac and it’s 2017, I don’t miss any ports except usb but I’m currently not using anything for that port at the moment. iCloud everything, use sd card reader lightning and import my files to my phone. I wish I could complain about the lack of ports but I already have lightning to usb c charger before buying.

Tech is almost always improving over time so if you can get a newer model then that would be the best bet for you. The 2019 model will have the latest hardware so it should last much longer than the 2015. But if price is a major factor and you are determined to get a Mac then a refurbished older model will be good for you.

I originally was going to get myself a 2018 mpb 13” but it only came with 8gb of ram for similar cost to the 2015 15” with 16gb ram... the redesigned keyboard is not to my liking, lack of ports, no MagSafe ... they had a sale this week on 2015 models so I thought it was a better value.

I bought from BH&Photo 2015 model for 1699$ 15 inch, 16gig of Ram, 256 SSD, 1,5GB of Video Card.... and on next day they change the price to 1799$ :)

If only they kept this generation alive and put updated specs into it, I’d bet 95% of people would buy an updated 3rd gen MacBook Pro over the crappy aerodynamic piece of metal the 4th gen is. I mean who’d choose a MacBook with a shitty keyboard, a way oversized trackpad, no standard ports or SD card slot, no MagSafe, crappy battery life, soldered storage, no glowing Apple logo, even worse thermal management and maybe more things I’m forgetting if they kept the old design? They literally had a perfect design and someone ran it over with a steamroller and then you have the 4th gen model. I’m still rocking my 2014 MacBook Pro fully speced out and it’ll be probably 5-10 years before I consider upgrading

I am glad you are still enjoying your 2014 model and I really like this version too. The new design looks great but there have been a lot of issues including that keyboard you mentioned. Some suggest buying a dongle is not a big deal but for me it was. I like having my ports and my sd card slot without needing a dongle.

But this has a battery callback

I got the 2015 spec'd out 15" MBP. They are only selling it for 300 or so dollars cheaper than I paid for it in 2015. Weird.

I don’t believe these are upgradable. They used to be several years ago but now Apple has shut that down. The only way to increase the specs is to buy a more expensive model.

Yeah I had to check...I had the 2011 and it was upgradable but bad gpu, so apple started gluing and using their own screws for the 2015 mbp, if apple keep this up their company is going down @@TheArtofMD

You are right Thevru, it is outdated in comparison to the latest models. But for what I use it for (edit videos, write papers, watch Netflix and KZread) it works great for me. But if you need something more graphics intensive then you may want to get a newer model.

I would have the 2015 MacBook pro as my secondary Computer and my Windows computer for home use

That is very true since they are upgradable these computers will last that much longer. It is just harder to find one these days. If you are into upgrading on your own then yes. It’s too bad Apple removed this option from us.

All 15 inch 2015 MacBook Pros have a Retina display as far as I know. They all also are core i7 processors as well. The main difference between them are the graphics card, processor speed, and storage. The cheapest one is the 2.2 GhZ with the 256 GB storage. This one also has an integrated graphics card where the more expensive one has dual graphics cards. I have the 2.2 GhZ with the 256 GB storage option and it is great for me. I use mine to edit videos, watch tons of KZread videos, write scripts, and a lot more. This is not great for gaming mainly because of the graphics card. So find out what you want to use it for. If you need the most storage and top of the line specs then the 2.8 GhZ 512 GB will be good for you. But if you don’t intend on using it that way or the price is too high then the model I have will be just fine. Hope that helps.

You can still get this MacBook Pro at b&hphoto.com. I am still very happy with my purchase for all of the reasons I listed in my video. If has been perfect for what I need: video editing, surfing the net, watching videos, writing papers. But if you intend to edit graphics intensive videos, then you may want to look at one of the newer models since they have a dedicated graphics card and faster processor. Just be careful buying the 2016 model since they had issues with the keyboard.

So far my 2015 MBP has been great. I use it for editing my videos, surfing the net, and writing scripts. Editing videos drains the battery the most but the fans have not been very loud at all. Definitely happy so far.

Good question. These are really good computers that last a long time and have great resale value too. These are typically i5 processors and should be fine if you edit short videos at 1080p. But if you film at 4K, plan to use color grading, and want to make longer videos then these will struggle.

@@TheArtofMD My 2015 works great right up until recently. I got the new GoPro Hero 7 Black and I was shocked to find out that my 2015 MBP couldn't process the video. SUPER choppy and doesn't play back. I was so disappointed in this. It plays back and can edit my GoPro Hero 3+ which is also a 4K video camera. But the Hero 7 has more frames per second. I'm now on the fence with having to upgrade to a new MBP. :/

There is any place that has this macbook pro 15 in stock in box new?

yeah, how do you think, is it still ok to buy macbook pro 13' 2015 in 2020? i'm about to buy one as a backpack-laptop. My concern is bout new Catalina and ability to work in Fl Studio and Logic Pro on 8gb ram version

Not anymore. You will only be able to find these as refurbished or used from now on.

Hi Leo and thank you for your comment. Logic Pro should run just fine on your MacBook 💻. But you may want to invest in a really good external hard drive to save those huge media files. And I would wait on Catalina for now until all of the bugs are fixed.

The 2014 is a very good option too and some say it’s better than the 2015. But so far I’ve been very happy with mine.

I agree Othman Safarini. I heard about the issues some are having with the 2016 model. Sometimes those first generation features are not yet refined.

2014 is the same but it has the better Chiclet Keyboard

I am not sure about this Lokendra. I don’t use mine for software development. You may want to check out an online forum for answers on this.

The new MacBook is a huge letdown like why Apple gotta keep making their shit so thin and light like that’s necessary. The old 2015 model is thin enough, you is sacrificing important ports and the keyboard is shit.

Yeah that keyboard has become a serious problem lately. And yes I agree with you that making everything so thin has not had a positive impact on the newer models.

I found a mbp 2017 for 2264$ do you think it’s a good deal or should I get the 2015 for $1700

Good question Ivan go. It depends on a few things. First, are the specs the same i.e. 256 gigs? If the 2017 or the 2015 have 512 gigs or more then go with more memory because that will always serve you better in the long run. Second, what do you plan on using the computer for? If you are using it to write a paper for school, surf online, and maybe some light editing with iMovie of Final Cut Pro then the 2015 will be more than enough. But if you plan on producing lots of 4k content with lots of color correction then you will want to look at the 2017 model. The 2015 can still edit footage in this resolution but not as easily as the 2017. And finally what is your budget? Based on your question money may not be an issue as it was for me. The $400 price difference I faced between the 2015 and the 2017 was a deal breaker for what I was going to use it for. And then I was going to have to buy a dongle was well. Think about what you plan on using it for and that will give you your answer. Hope that helps.
