    Personally I wouldnt do these exercises and just stick to regular pull ups or lat pull downs but it's obviously not hurting them if top level Olympic athletes are being allowed by their coaches. That being said I don't think regular Joe has the mobility and joint/relevant muscle strength to do it safely. This is more sport specific training for their lifts

  • @xDDufiosy

    Agree, their musculature in specific movements allow them to do these lifts easily. If your a normal body builder it will hurt you more than help to do these behind the back extensions.

    i think it's possible for you to gain the mobility to do these exercises though. But is it worth it? I guess it would depend. Some are anotomaically built for behind the neck stuff and some are not. If you are more predisposed to be able to do them but can't do them do to mobility degradation, you definitely should.

    A lot of old school bodybuilders and strongman were doing behind the neck presses and pull downs. Also some of the newer ones too like Levrone and Pudzian that had some of the best shoulders/upper backs on their sports. Old and basic work works wonders. Just need to have good mobility and keep working at it..something that gym rats don't do..so they instead badmouth the exercises. I bet bench press is more harmful to you and lots more injuries because of it yet people religiously do them week after week

    Nice video, tho title doesn't really fit the content. Those exercices are mostly (either because of the exercise or because of the way they perform it) traps, rhomboids, etc (in other words, only upper back). Plus the first one, that you didn't really show, was dips 😅 it's not because you see their traps while they perform dips that the exercise targets the muscle (let alone is the best exercice to target it)

  • @jesusgomezperez2360
    @jesusgomezperez23603 жыл бұрын

    None of the exercises are very good for muscle mass development, and most of them are harmful. They can do them because they are advanced and have great flexibility but someone normal would not do them having exercises that involve a greater range of motion with much greater safety. In another video I had seen one perform a pulley row with a lot of weight but good performance. But these exercises are really bad for someone. In addition to the fact that they do not have a very broad back like that of a bodybuilder, although it is seen that they have an enormous capacity for muscular contraction.

    And I think the reason as to why they do it is because of the carry-over to their sport, weightlifting. Their two lifts end with the weight behind the head, and this specfic variation of the pullup in the video works the upper back if I'm not mistaken, this will put more emphasis on overhead stability, which is incredibly demanded in a 150kg+ c&j and snatch. Also I believe training this upper back pulling strength leads to a stronger clean, minimising their energy leaks through instability

  • @farhanhussain_

    Agreed. You need extraordinary mobility in shoulders to tolerate these ultra wide grips over the long run. Most of us, common people, lack this. He has not used very heavy weights and back development is good when compared to us, regular fitness enthusiasts, but not when compared to bodybuilders. Exercise selection is not very impressive, but as someone said, might be good for carryover to his sport. Deadlifts, weighted chins, and their variations play more important role for most of us.
