@@andyony2 I (Tomer) lost my local audio recording and had to use my backup (webcam) audio, but that one recorded everyone's voice together and was awkward trying to edit me and someone else were talking at the same time. So I used the backup audio for everyone :(

Oh sweet summer child. I guess Crim evaluates how good a card is based on how miserable it makes opponents. Does this card shut my opponents out of the game through infinite counters or preventing card draw? No? Then it sucks

@@Spaced92 Even killing *_an_* opponent singlehandedly wouldn't hold a candle at Golos. That card was a mistake at every level of design. Even on the marketing side (which usually is the side that fucks MTG design like a discount you-know-what-I-mean), as it was only a side chump in the grand scheme of things.

The thing that Tamanoa has going for it that Firesong and Sunspeaker, Soulfire Grand Master, and most recently Rem Karolus are missing (aside from green) is that Tammy works with all non-creature sources, not just spells, which opens up waaay more options. E.g., punishment type enchantments and artifacts like Spellshock, Ankh of Mishra, and Manabarbs passively gain you life on opponent's turns; the many pain lands like City of Brass, Karplusan Forest, Ancient Tomb, and normally bad lands like Centaur Gardens will cancel out their damage and trigger your Ajani's Pridemate, Heliod, and Well of Lost Dreams triggers; and Tamanoa plus Atherflux Reservoir with more than 50 life wins the game on the spot. There's been commanders that look like Tamanoa, but none have had the full suite of possibilities that Tamanoa does. (edited for grammar and corrections)

The best is having pain lands (like city of brass), Tamanoa, and a Well of Lost Dreams: T: add a mana, take 1 damage. Trigger, gain 1 life. Trigger, use that 1 mana you just made to draw a card. It's peak kitchen table magic.

@@AxillaryPower2 Pyrohemia and something to protect your general from damage would just be fabulous. There's so many cards out there that are mostly mediocre that this sort of commander would be perfect for. It would really be cool to see a legendary creature that is a precise copy of this creature. No extra bullshit, just a three mana red white and green creature with the same text. Also, note that this ability doesn't grant lifelink. You can double your lifegain from instants and sorceries by playing out a firesong you'll also get two extra bolts for the life you gain.

I'd love a commander with an Opposition Agent-like effect stapled onto it, but without stealing the cards. Just you control your opponents when they search their library and assign the cards they will find. Think of the political possibilities!

27:00: "It's a draw!" It is actually not a draw if the only way people are losing is by having milled themselves out. First, Crim would die, that is clear. But then you have to remember that you only lose the game for failing to draw a card from your library, not simply for having an empty library. So the next person in the turn order would go, try to draw a card, lose, and so on, which would end up making the player to Crim's "right" the eventual winner, barring other interaction.

I would assume the other players would have other lose cons before they mill. Infect, Commander damage, or just regular damage that they all die as soon as persecutor leaves the battlefield.

"You can't lose the game" effects mean that having milled yourself out still does not lose the game. You very much can be stuck in a situation where you have no hand, library, or graveyard, with an empty battlefield as well, and still would not technically have lost the game with that effect. You can effectively no longer progress your own board state, but you have not lost yet. I got into a really annoying 4 hour match on Arena where someone had Helm of the Host and Swiftfoot Boots on Platinum Angel, and ended up taking 11 turns where they did not have a card to draw in their library before conceding. Sad part is, the match wasn't that long in number of turns. They basically had cast their entire library by turn 18. The only way to lose while you have an active "you can't lose the game" effect is conceding.

The Alara block has so many great commander candidates.

Now that they actually printed storm on a creature card it would not be surprising to see a legendary storm crow with storm, I would love it.

This is indeed the right pronunciation for Gisela. It's a very oldfashioned name, which is why the card is actually just named "Sela" in german. Can't give the battle angel a grandma name.

I think Ivorytusk Fortress would be a cool commander. Not too broken powerful, but an interesting lead. 2WGB for a 5/7 elephant with “untap each creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it during each player’s untap step.”

100% agree with changing the rules on Yuriko. I have all the Song of the Dryads effect cards just to deal with her, its ridiculous. But also Dragon Broodmother should be legendary.

As a German, we really do call her "gee-sel-ah" (stress on the first syllable); Edit: Tomer, you said it near perfectly.

I would have loved it if Underrealm Lich was a legendary creature. I find card fixing a very satisfying thing, and the 4 life ability to give it indestructible is very sweet as well. The best part is that you can mill yourself by drawing cards! Why spend cards to mill yourself when you can exchange those cards and still mill yourself? :)

Taigam, Sidisi's Hand is pretty close, but it's dimir colors and instead of going invincible it has an ability that's removal. Otherwise it's pretty much underrealm lich as a commander.

I think it's worth mentioning that Commander is a "casual" format, which means there is no specific rules that you can't change with your friends, so if you want to run a specific creature card as a commander, as long as your play group is fine with it, do it

Swans of Bryn Argoll would be an interesting voltron commander with inquisitor's flail, steel of the godhead, and ways to give it vigilance and ability to block multiple creatures.

There's an aura from Prophecy called Entangler that lets enchanted creature block any number of creatures and a few instants that grant the same effect until eot (Blaze of Glory, Give no Ground, and Valor Made Real). Combined with the numerous cards that let you block one additional creature there could be enough to make it a fun, janky mill out scheme.

of the ones discussed, abyssal persecutor was my favorite> outside of that, I've always wanted Dross Scorpion as my commander. unique synergistic effect that has enough restrictions to not be mindless build (ex. treasure doesn't trigger its effect). It also doesn't draw cards by itself, so it's harder to complete the combos than card advantage commanders can.

Chromanticore was a deck I actually built online before realizing it wasnt legendary. SO glad to see it on the list.

Nephilim Week sounds great! As does a game featuring Tamanoa, Swans, Persecutor, and blue Kithkin

If I had to pick 4 of these to see in a paper commander stream, I think I'd pick crocodile tribal, the persecutor, the swans, and uncle istvan.

This will never be unearthed but Docent of Perfection from Shadows always seemed like it was unique enough lore and function wise to be a commander for wizard tribal before Dominaria and the Kess precon

I know you probably won't, but if you do play xmage it has a freeform commander mode with no banlist, deck size, or singleton limit. However, it also allows ANYTHING to be your commander, I've played with skeletal swarming and it was op

Personally I would want Keeper of the Accord, it's a mono-white card that costs 3 blank and a white that's 3/4 and it gives you token soldiers if you have less creatures then your opponents at their end step, and it gives you a tapped Plains at the end of opponents turn if they have more lands then you. It's a Mono-white that gives you every white deck wants, tokens and lands. The only thing it doesn't have is card draw but 2 out of 3 isn't bad, and it's not like it'll go crazy since it's reliant on your opponents to have either more land or more creatures then you. Also I would love to see you do this with non creature artifacts or enchaments as commanders.

The card I would like to see as a legendary is the first one (as far as I know) with a nickname. Good old Tim, the Prodigal Sorcerer. Others that have been given nicknames since would be fun too.

I 100% want to see Crim build an Abyssal Persecutor deck for the show.

My picks are Abyssal Persecuter, Ink-treader Nephilim (or any other Nephilim), Tamanoa, and the Swans. I think this would make a super interesting game!

I built a Croc Tribal deck for a building challenge and went with Brokkos for the Commander since might not be a Crocodile, it's so fitting for the fact that Crocs have really long lives, have gone most evolved for year and hits all 3 colors perfectly. Brokkos should have been a Legendary Croc!

Brutal Hordechief would be a really sweet commander. You could build it as a goad deck like Kardur, or make a zillion tokens, or lean into life drain triggers, or try to force a huge creature past blockers (or into blockers). Or what if Seige Rhino could be your commander? Would it be too good? Terrible? I have no idea, but it would be funny

Crim, If you haven't tried no shuffle commander in paper you should. It speeds up a good bit and lowers the power level a lot

I want phyrexian obliterator in the command zone. One of my favourite not good enough cards.

This was a super fun episode! I'd really love to see the paper face off with some of these ^^ Tamanoa, Swans, Abyssal Persecutor, and... Richard on Uncle Istvan I guess, most of his list is too troll, and he can't be allowed to Storm Crow off.

I've long had a big list of cards I felt would make interesting commanders thanks to their unique effects, but the cards themselves aren't legendary: 1. Kamigawa Flips - the 15 cards that are nonlegendary on the initial side but then flip into a Legendary creature 2. Ravnica Nephilim - these five obviously should've been Legendary, especially given that in the lore there is only 1 of each in existence 3. Lorwyn/Shadowmoor Spirit Avatars - these ten are the same as #2 above 4. Alara "shard leaders" - Prince of Thralls, Empyrian Archangel, Godsire, Hellkite Overlord, Sphinx Sovereign 5. Innistrad TDFCs - Elbrus the Binding Blade, and before the reveal of Tovolar I had been wanting to use either Arlinn or Huntmaster of the Fells as a Werewolf commander 6. Fate Reforged clan hybrid cards - Soulfire Grandmaster, Brutal Hordechief, Shaman of the Great Hunt, Warden of the First Tree 7. Misc Others - Figure of Destiny, Ascendant Spirit, Blood Tyrant, Chromanticore, Tamanoa, Evershrike, Havengul Lich, Genju of the Realm (maybe have the animated land deal commander damage), Diamond Faerie (for a Snow deck in Bant), Brothers Yamazaki (with "Partner with" each other, but only if you have one of each art; also maybe tweak the wording so that someone else cloning one won't kill one of yours) And I also kinda wish EMN Bruna and Gisela had "Partner with" so I could use them together. I'm still holding out for a Mardu Angel tribal commander. (no, Kaalia doesn't count)

Krim is my favorite player to play with. Likes powerful stuff and doesn’t tilt but enjoys durdling and doesn’t try extremely hard to win

I'd love guild mages as commanders, for me specifically Izzet Guildmage but I think they'd all be kind of fun.

Quite a few of those options they where talking about in regards to Opposition Agent are may effects, effectively turning it into a sorc speed vamp tutor just for yourself or a strip mine VS a "fair" land destruction.

Tamanoa: seems fun Inspiring Commander: at 4 mana seems fine Maelstrom Archangel: sure Nephilims: already should have been legendary... Shaman of the Great Hunt and Co: would be fun to see

I agree with Richard about the sultai crocodile commander tbh. My crocodile tribal deck is helmed by Vorosh (The sultai dragon) just simply because he's got some 1+/1+ counter synergies. I'm even running the enchantment that turns into a crocodile... The tribe needs a legendary that suports both the attacking strategy as well as the counter mechanics when attacking isn't an option.

Can’t decide on the fourth but I feel like a swans, persecutor, and tamanoa game would play crazy and I’d love to see it.

Kithkin are so creepy the Shadowmoor Kithkin are less creepy than the Lorwyn ones.

Skipped over it quickly, but Brutal Hordechief would be my absolute go-to go-wide commander with a bit of Artistocrats sub-theme going on. Swing with a ton of creatures to drain opponents and gain life (Sanguine Bond, anyone?!), then sac to draw cards, drain more life, etc.

It’ll be very weird to have three different halflings that aren’t functionally the same tribe

My top choice for honorary commander status has to be Disciple of the Ring. It's such a unique effect, and yet it doesn't pidgeonhole you into a single build or strategy. I'd love to see a legend with that first line and different effects/colors.

Transcendent Master feels like it ought to have been legendary, maybe all avatars should be legendary

I always thought necropolis regent would make a sweet commander. It gives off that commander energy imo. Heavenly blademaster also gives off that same energy to me... Ageless entity? I'm blanking on multicolored, but maybe Djinn Illuminatus? Always thought he seemed underused, but would be a sweet commander. Maybe corpsejack menace, gleancrawler, or doomgape?

Phil is right Gisela is a german name. And Tomer said it right. But its so unpopular or at least oldfashioned that Wizards named the german card just „Sela“ 😂😅👌 greetings from Germany;)!!

Not sure if sb commented already, but the way Tomer pronounced Gisela at the end was exactly how you would pronounce the german name. However, me and my group still use a "english sounding" pronounciation (with the soft "G" and a more buzzing "s"), so I'd say either are fine.

Crim, esper control with phage and this in the deck as targets to give with fractured identity sounds amazing

For Swans of Bryn Argoll, there's a bunch of white cards that say "deal (some number) damage to target attacking or blocking creature". So you just need to attack with the bird and then do that.

Wow, not a single one of the 5 big creatures from Shards of Alara, like Godsire or Prince of Thralls...

57:44 - Cenn's Heir looks like a squished Tom Cruise.

Abyssal Persecutor would be a really cool deck to watch work. The politics of that card are amazing.

With all the sac outlets available in commander no one would trust the persecutor would stay around a moment more than it was useful.

You should definitely do a Commander Clash webcam episode in which you play the cards you proposed. The Swans deck sounds hilarious and there are a few cards that aren't even that bad. All the Masticores become a draw engine. Fodder Cannon, Lightmine Field and Guilty Conscience are also decent cards. And it's hilarious to use Aether Flux Reservoir, Charbelcher, Sentinel Tower and Talon of Pain to draw cards. If you want to get really janky use Ballista Squad, Tower of Calamities and Unerring Sling :D.

Charbelcher + Mana Severance is already good, but would be hilarious when used to draw 50-ush cards by targeting Swans. Especially if Swans had Empyrial Armor/Plate or Wizard Class was at level 3.

Forget the sultai crocodile, we still need a sultai ZOMBIE commander. It's a crime that the most popular tribe in Magic doesn't have a single sultai commander option.

Legion Warboss- we saw him across Ravnica Blocks, this lil success story should be a planes walker by now...

Which command clash episode is the one with Golos scouts or is it on a different stream?

Phil is right on the pronunciation of Gisela. When I’m not sure of the pronunciation of a name in Magic, I look at the Russian card, as their alphabet is very straightforward in the way things are pronounced. In Russian it is Гизела, which is indeed pronounced “Geezela.” Another common mispronunciation is Gisa (Джиза) which is actually pronounced “Jheeza”.

Some of my favorite nonlegendary cards are Defiler of Souls and the 3 color mythic cycle from shards of alara.
