I work at a DME as the cpap/bipap specialist and I've personally seen devices destroyed by the So-clean ozone cleaner. The most obvious problem is the seals get hard and stop sealing then sensors start going out like the ones related to the auto-on and auto-off modes. Machines might start turning off automatically at night or will need to manually have the machine turned on to start therapy rather than putting the mask on. We sent 2 off for repair under warranty. One was light enough on the damage that ResMed repaired it but the other one had extensive seal damage, corroded circuit boards, and pneumatic block damage. On the other hand, the only complaint I received concerning the Sleep 8 is that it wouldn't turn on unless they pushed it onto the port "really hard". Elderly patient so go figure.

I just started using a CPAP machine two weeks ago and have been watching and learning from these great videos. I like the Sleep 8 because my wife may be using a CPAP machine in a couple of months and it looks like the easiest to use for both machine. The LED UV model also looks interesting but I noticed there are many models promoting the same results. Have you tested any of them?

Ditto! I bought my SoClean within a month of receiving the Phillips Dream Machine (five years ago) and I have not had a problem with either. I clean my tank, hose and mask once a week, and the other 6 days I use my SoClean. If it is available, I will buy the same cpap machine in the newest model when I'm eligible for a new one. When the SoClean quits, I'll buy another. Add my two cents to the above.

The problem with the soclean is that it will void your warranty on your CPAP machine. Because the ozone residue gets on the motor inside your CPAP machine. Once they see that, they won't replace your CPAP machine. I don't understand why they never talk about that. I use the Sleep8 which would not void your warranty.

A caution with the So Clean is you have to unhook the black hose to remove and fill the water chamber from a Resmed. If you forget to re-hook the hose you get a flood.

Steve R: No you don't. You can purchase the SoClean lid adapter for your Resmed and simply place the hose and face "assembly" into the SoClean and turn it on. The O3 will go into the water and through the inside of the hose. The main problem is the internal Resmed seals that, supposedly, get damage from the O3 which is why Resmed won't only the warranty if they determine that any of their machines were damage in that way.

I use an Airsense10 for Her machine nightly. My tubing is covered by a tube sock which keeps it warm and blocks condensation. Also have short foam socks on both sidesof headgear that touch my face. Is it necessary to remove these coverings before placing tube and mask in Sleep 8 bag? Also, how often should I wash CPAP supplies if using Sleep 8?

Regarding the Sleep 8. You state in your video that you need a new bag every 3-6 months depending on the frequency of use. If using daily, 90 day change. Based on my understanding of how CO2 cleaning works, this logic seems sound. However it contradicts Sleep 8's official stance on the subject which is once you open the package the 90 day clock starts. I don't use the device daily and can't use it on my nasal cushions due to degradation. I use weekly on every thing else. No one from Sleep 8 has been able to provide a logical explanation on how the EFFICACY of this filter bag changes when it's simply removed from it's packaging. How did you come to your conclusion about the filter bag change cycles for the Sleep 8? Thanks for the video and hopefully a long awaited answer🤔

My main question is what about the inside of the CPAP machine itself? I have a ResMed CPAP and I clean with soap and water. Using this method cleans the hose, mask, and tank but not inside the machine. I have always felt there must be areas inside the machine that can get mold or bacterial growth that can't be cleaned using soap and water. Is this a legitimate concern? If so it seems the only viable option would be the SoClean? Is it possible to put the entire machine inside the Sleep8 bag and run ozone through it?

BTW: Neither the ozone nor the UV cleaners will remove the facial oils from the cushions, you still need to clean those with some sort of soap/detergent to remove those oils - unless you like skin issues.

I did not see you put a cpap humidifier reservoir in the Liviliti UV cleaner in this video, or the one you made specifically for that cleaner. I'm assuming that means they don't fit in a way that would make cleaning effective. Is that a fair assumption? I am not particularly enthused about the ozone cleaners, mostly because they have fairly significant ongoing costs in the form of filters/bags.

I've been using a CPAP for around 15 years. Rarely do I clean the parts. Never had a problem. I live in an arid climate so mold is not an issue and I don't use a humidifier. I've had 3 Remstar, one of them being recalled. I've been using my backup that wasn't recalled and finally decided to buy a Resmed and because the humidifier is built-in started using the humidifier. Now I'm looking into cleaners and after watching this I think I'll just start using wipes. All bacteria is not bad and why do we think this is going fix things? I use a whole room cleaner that has to have it's filters changed about once ever 6 mo. Bottom line, none of these machines clean the CPAP, just the hose and mask. Ozone is not a good substance, and not sure how much of the UV light will get inside the tube. My wife has an ultrasonic cleaner, which would require a little disassembly to get the Nasal mask in, but it might just do the job. Good luck and good sleeping!!

I have been using the Dream Station and SoClean for years the only side affect I notice was a discoloration of the headgear over time. What is your thoughts on the Phillips June 14, 2021 Recall on several CPAP machines including the Dream Station? Phillips claim the foam inside the machine is deteriorating and could enter the airway. Phillips is also claiming it’s because of using ozone cleaners. However it also seams rather fishy that Phillips launched their Dream Station 2 at the same time they issued the recall for the Dream Station 1! Please let us know your thoughts? I am so reluctant to get another So Clean. On my third one already. Their warranty is good, but the door hinge broke within a year on my first one, then the replacement one broke within a few months despite......despite me being SUPER careful closing the lid each and every time. The third one broke again and I am meticulously careful with it when closing and opening the lid. I was so frustrated that I decided not to even contact them the third time since it broke so quickly. I just put the lid on and place a heavy weight on it to make sure it seals all the way around. No leakage or anything, but makes me concerned to get their So Clean 3 unit. I am not convinced that they have fixed their weak hinges. Has anyone else had this issue or have I gotten 3 defective units in a row? P.S. I have a Resmed Airsense 10, so the hose is nothing crazy or abnormally sized.

I use a SoClean2 with my Dream Station 1. The SoClean circulates ozone through the water that is in the water chamber. I don't think it has any effect on the dryness of the chamber area, although if the water chamber is over-filled, it could blow over the top of the chamber during the first step of cleaning. During the first five minutes of using the SoClean, the black tube that extends into the water chamber "bubbles". The machine buzzes fairly loudly and the light is red. After five minutes it stops buzzing and bubbling and the machine continues to quietly clean for the remainder of two hours. During this time the light is yellow. When it's ready to open and your mask & hose are clean, the light is green. I have been using the Dream Station and SoClean2 for five years and I love them both. It's time for a new CPAP machine and I am sad it can't be another DS1. The DS2 does not get great reviews. I don't put my water chamber in the dishwasher because it seems to wear it out sooner. When it wears out, it gets cracks around the metal plate which leak. That would drip water into the space and possibly cause dampness. IMHO

Personally, and with my background as a biologist, I don't support any of the products you are reviewing/peddling. In my view, the best way to clean CPAP equipment is the more time consuming, old-fashioned way. First, wash the equipment, hose, mask and humidifier in warm water with Dawn; use a hose brush to clean the inside of the hose; rinse completely and then use the Hurricane CPAP dryer to dry the mask, humidifier and the hose. The Hurricane dryer has a built-in attachment for the hose. Your product review makes no mention of how they remove the grease from your face or how they clean mucous, saliva, etc. from your mask. The old-fashioned way i describe above does all that and more. Yes, it is more time-consuming but, as the saying goes, 'you reap what you sow'.

@@CPAPmyway Would running the SoClean 2 with water inside humidifier chamber result in ozone being trapped inside the water more readily? I ask since the FDA issued out a notice to consumers that ozone producing CPAP cleaning machines were found to result in higher than recommended levels of ozone inside CPAP machines even after cleaning was completed. As a result, it was recommended to run CPAP machine 10 minutes without use prior to putting it on to go to bed. Even then some cleaning machines still resulted in higher than normal levels of ozone when tested. So I’m wondering if the water would inadvertently aid in entrapping the ozone molecules inside the water? I’m not a chemist so let me know your thoughts.

Even being meticulously careful, gentle with placing in the hose and headgear and opening and closing the lid, one of the hinges broke on all 3 units. I am using it correctly and super carefully. I do not place it in a place where sun can hit it......which would weaken plastic over time. This HAS to be a known issue. I don't understand why the inability of a CPAP cleaning device to blow ozone into the machine itself is a good thing. If you clean every other part of the system, but don't clean the inside of the air pump, that's like never cleaning the inside of your furnace and air ducts of your home. I understand that ozone isn't good to breathe and therefore you would not want a machine to leave ozone in your air pump, but what is wrong with a system that would blow ozone into the air pump (maybe while the air pump is running) and then run ordinary household air through it to "rinse" out the ozone. I would do that in my garage, for instance: Once a week, I'd just put the cpap and the cleaning machine in a plastic tote, bring them out to my workbench in the garage, let them do their ozone thing and expel that ozone into the garage, and bring them back into the house knowing all parts of my machine are clean.

Ozone is corrosive and would eventually cause damage to parts inside of the CPAP after long term use. Those parts are not easily replaced and that is why most manufacturers are asking cpap users not to run Ozone inside of their CPAPs.

Hi Very informative about the CPAP cleaners. However, I was warned about using any of these cleaners by my doctor. Also, friends who are currently using their CPAC machines were also warned by their doctor. These machines are very hazardous to your health. They do not clean efficiently or get rid of bacteria etc. The best method is warm water and mild soap, soak for 30 minutes, use a towel for excess moisture and hang on a clothesline, no direct sun. WEEKLY clean your humidifier in 3 parts warm water to 1 part white vinegar for sterilization once a week. DAILY you need to clean your humidifier, air tubing, and mask cushion with warm soapy water and air dry on a towel. You do not want to breath bacteria, mold etc. This can cause havoc with your respiratory system. Their is no easy way. You need to clean everything DAILY and WEEKLY thoroughly. Their is no easy way or method. When it comes to your health, their are no shortcuts. Your health is priceless!! In health!!😊 PS: Thank you for all your informative videos on KZread.
