Since convertibles generally won't pass "crash tests", they are a "speciality vehicle" that only X number can be sold in a Model year in the US, and in most cases, most of them go UN-SOLD today, like Saleen Mustang rag-tops. Ford can offer 500 "for sale" in the US, but the "last build" they only produced 300-odd and over half of those weren't "street legal" versions, just like the Cale Yarbrough Galaxie 500 NASCAR of 1963. NONE of them were street cars.

If only we got the American built vehicles here in New Zealand. Most of them would definitely compete against the European and asian stuff we get.

I think only the Land Rover Defender is the only one on the list that’s unibody construction. Unless the Hongqi LS7 is unibody as well - not sure what platform it’s using, there’s little information about it right now in English. All of the American brands are still using body-on-frame derived from their pickup siblings, even though in most cases, the people that use these big SUV’s will never take them off-road nor tow anything. So only the Land Rover Defender has the crossover DNA derived from sedan-style construction to save on weight. There’s even a Defender 90 that has a V8. So it’s basically like a 3 door sports car that happens to have the shape of a three door SUV. And the unibody construction make it drive like a sedan. Which is incredible. Next body style to get the crossover treatment will be pickups. Honda Ridgeline, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Ford Maverick, and Audi Activesphere.

I don't want big. Hell, I don't LIKE big. But I like the crisp, functional-but-sophisticated styling in this class. If GM built something with the Tahoe/Suburban type styling and the size and proportions including (lack of) height of a Cavalier wagon from the '80s, it'd be the ideal family car and there'd be one in my driveway already.

I've always wondered why Ford doesn't make an Everest XL on the Ranger's wheelbase. We don't get these long SUVs in right-hand drive in Africa or Asia, but that would be a no-brainer. In the Everest, the rear boot space is unusable for a long trip with all seats up.

@@ProfeAdventures That's only available in North America and Mexico. The Ranger platform is global. But yes, something with seven seats and the cargo depth of the boot with all seats up like the Yukon XL or Expedition Max would do.

Americans use a comma as thousand devider and a dot for decimals. In most of the world it would be 5.636mm but in America (US and Canada) it is 5,636mm. Listen to the video again. The narrator calls decimal numbers „3 point 1 ton“ for example, not „3 comma 1 ton“ as it would be in most countries.
