I definitely agree with you that brides should trust her photographers and not be afraid to take wonderful pictures in great locations but I don’t know if this is something you do my cousins photographer did this trick where she would bring a sheet to put underneath brides dresses when they were going to go into an area that wasn’t super clean that way it would be protected and because most dresses are white that sheet is really undetectable just a thought

That is an interesting solution. If any bride is super worried about getting dirty, she should bring something like this although it might slow things down. There's a balance to everything ;)

I think it’s true that one should trust a wedding photographer, but I also know( as in any profession) sometimes the demeanour of people just isn’t comparable.I’ve worked with some “ incredible “ photographers( who were terrible? And worked with novices with great talent.( MAKE SURE to see photos first.

Do you have any videos on getting brides and grooms or the family or the wedding party to loosen up and smile in front of the camera, or anything that can be done ahead of time to make it easier for them to work with the photographer? My fiance and I are going to be eloping in the next year, and I'm reluctant to bother hiring a professional photographer. Almost every picture I have gotten with him in the last 19 years is pretty much him standing up stiffly like he's in front of a firing squad. He did it at a friend's wedding, at my graduation, at his graduation, in his driver's license picture... okay, I know that your driver's license picture is supposed to be bad, but if the cops are looking for you and they don't have a picture of you already, they use your driver's license picture on the news, and he looks really guilty. The only time he loosens up in the least and lets his smile start to peek out is if we're taking a selfie, and I think that's more because he's straining to reach his arm out as far as possible with the phone. I'm literally at the point of thinking that we should skip any professional photography and just take some selfies, because those are some of the best pictures we've gotten together.

Choose a photographer who you both connected well with on phone consultations. It helps a lot. Do an engagement session for practice so you and your photographer can see what helps loosen him up!

What about families that cant be anywhere near each other? I have a really hard time believing that we can get my future in laws family photos done (as well as mine) in 15 minutes when we need to completely clear one side out of the area before the other gets there as they cant seem to handle talking to each other (with a couple notable angels in the group that are the exceptions). I'm also not convinced about getting the gown dirty being ok, my gown is 78 years old and required a special seamstress to restore it and refit it and we need to do pictures before because our ceremony is after sunset so any dirt will show in my ceremony video and photos when I want them to be the nicest.

If you have complicated family dynamics then you'll need to plan extra time for that. Your gown will get dirty regardless of what you do on the wedding day. Even if you're indoors all day, it's inevitable the bottom will get dirty whether from people stepping on it (happens all the time on the dance floor and during mingling), brushing up against literally anything on the ground, etc. Some dirt on the bottom of the gown is definitely not going to show up in photos. That's sort of the whole point of that part of the video is that it'll happen anyway, so if you really want a variety of photo locations and more adventurous photos, then letting go of that fear of getting the dress slightly dirty is the way to go. If you care more about keeping your dress 100% clean and plan to be very immobile and sticking to concrete or carpet only, then just know those are the only photos you'll have. It comes down to preference and priorities, but regardless every dress will always be a little dirty on the bottom 1/2 inch and in need of dry cleaning from that and sweat/makeup pretty much 100% of the time.

@@cavinelizabeth But that's the thing "adventurous" photos look so fake and contrived. A wedding is a religious ceremony followed by a nice sit down dinner, that is what should be in the photos and where they need to be taken - where the real stuff is happening. I have a 15 ft train, I'm not walking anywhere in it besides down the aisle and then very very carefully and Im certainly not dancing in it - its too fragile to bustle. If my photographer asks me to do anything other than stand with it in a nice giant sweep around me while everyone else comes in and out I'm putting my foot down, it is way to valuable to muck up - Grandma kept it spotless so I can too. I'm looking for about 20 - 30 portrait groupings, 10 extra special events/recreations of Grandma's portraits and everything else should be ceremony and food/cake cutting. I wasnt going to do photography at all and just have a couple friends and family members bring cameras to get the ceremony and then take turns doing the family portraits but someone gifted it to me so we accepted (she is a pro and offered the day plus all the digital files which we can then print as we want).

My adventurous photos absolutely don't look fake and contrived. Not sure what photos you've seen in the world but hopefully the photographer you have is great with posing so they won't look "fake." It sounds like your priority is your dress, so then just don't move around much at all I guess.

@@cavinelizabeth It isnt the posing that makes them look fake its the locations. People dont normally run through the woods in gowns - you wear hiking gear for that, and gowns are meant for ballrooms and churches. Portraits are meant to be standing still with your party in a semicircle behind the couple - there is no way to mess that up. THe real pictures (the only ones that matter) are the real candid ones with no posing that are taken as the ceremony is happening - when the events are really going on and no one is paying attention to the photographer's existence.

@@jencasey316 it sounds like that's what you want for your wedding. I know many people who don't agree with you on what a wedding is and I think more non-traditional brides and grooms don't care as much about dirt on the bottom of the dress and like pictures in the outdoors. This photographer probably caters towards more modern weddings and really, you should take any video like this with a grain of salt and do what you wanna do at the end of the day 🤷🏻‍♀️
