Top 6 CGI Movies of the Decade! | VFX Breakdown

Фильм және анимация

Get some cool drag & drop VFX here! ► www.famefocus.com/go/getvfx/ ◄
Nowadays the only thing that really limits VFX is the time that can be spent on it, or in other words; the budget. If production companies are willing to pay for the time it takes to get the VFX perfect, they WILL BE PERFECT. Unfortunately, this doesn't always translate into a box office hit. Although cheap and poorly executed VFX can make a good movie bad, high-quality VFX won't make a bad movie good. Like the music in this video?

1. The Hobbit
From the offset, it was always going to be hard for "The Hobbit". The Lord of the Rings was a tough act to follow and stretching out, what was originally an average length book, into a trilogy, was always going to water things down.
What wasn't watered down was the VFX, Peter Jackson's own VFX house WETA digital took on the task, and in addition to Incredible CG environments, Digidoubles, CG water and CG fire, CG dwarfs, Orcs, and elves, WETA created the photoreal dragon Smaug. Not only did the dragon look so much like a "real" dragon, that it made us forget that real dragons don't exist, but they managed to make it talk like Benedict Cumberbatch without losing the magic.
2. Interstellar
After receiving somewhat mixed reviews but an almost general consensus that this film was too long and too complicated because instead of using fiction to explain their science, they tried to use science to explain their fiction.
What many people missed in this film were the incredible VFX that DNEG managed to produce. The jewel in their crown was Gargantua "The Black Hole". working alongside the theoretical scientist Kip Thorne, DNEG developed a new renderer called "Double Negative Gravitational Renderer" or "DNGR" which could map out how millions of light beams travel through the warped space-time surrounding a black hole. Kip Thorne and the DNEG team published a scientific study on how did this in February 2015.
3. The Lion King
Claims that "The Lion King" has "lost its soul" and "Become a National Geographic Documentary may be bad for the film but says a lot for the VFX.
MPC created 1500 shots of photorealistic animals that are so incredible that you are never quite sure which shots are real animals and which are CG, and they are all CG!
Disney's idea to remake all its animated classics using today's technology and VFX may seem like a great idea (especially to Disney's accountants and shareholders). but many feel that this is a "Money Grab" and that Disney has exchanged their childlike innocent imagination for Adult cynical realism.
4. Bladerunner 2049
Bladerunner 2049 is a sequel to the 1982 classic "Bladerunner". Making a sequel to a classic is always a daunting task, it creates so much speculation and hype that the movie is almost always going to fall short, and this would have been the case for Bladerunner 2049 had it not been for the VFX. 8 different companies worked together to created a stunning world that manages to keep you enthralled whilst the "Slow-burn" storyline unfolds before you. They are in fact so stunning that not only do you forget that you've been sat, watching for nearly 3 hours, but you realize you've had your mouth open too!
5. Avengers Infinity War
The Marvel Universe films have some insane VFX, and the majority of them have not only had good reviews but have done very well at the box office, however, for some reason, critics have been having a dig at Thanos. Digital Domain had Josh Brolin wear a mo-cap suit as well as a helmet that had 2 HD cameras running 60 frames a second to capture his facial performance. Although the most amount of work went into the eyes because the eyes are actually what convey the real emotion, a mouth may smile but if the eyes don't sparkle, there is no happiness.
6. Planet of the Apes
Rise of the Planet of the Apes was criticized for the lack of reality in the lead ape character "Caesar". However, in the latter two films of the trilogy, this was no longer the case. Weta digital proved why many consider them the "Kings of the CG Animal Kingdom", not only were the CG apes 100% photorealistic, but they expressed emotion, so much so that you don't just sympathize with them but you find yourself siding with them against the human race...
Please give us a like if you enjoyed this video, don't forget the links to the music in this video are in the video description and be sure to let us know, in the comments, which movie VFX you'd like to see behind next!

I'll add that Disney's biggest issue with real Lion King was that it was too real and animals dont portray human emotions well. The choice not to exaggerate facial expressions to convey more human like qualities while the animals still talk like humans was a miss.

It's too bad that A) They didn't make _The Hobbit_ into two movies instead of three. As you said, it required some watering down (as well as fluffing it up with nonsense). As soon as I heard they had decided to make it a trilogy I knew that was going to be tempting to fill it up with fluff and that's exactly what happened; And B) They didn't take their time like they did with _The Lord of the Rings._ Yes, I know Peter was brought in after the original director left and he had to make due with what had been done, but he should have insisted that they give him an additional year to make, and, being Peter Jackson, they should have listened. They still made money but tainted PJ somewhat (his next movie tanked).

  • @BlackThorus

    @BlackThorus

    2 жыл бұрын

That's very sadly not how it worked for Peter. He wanted more time from Warner Bros. but they insisted that the schedule has to be followed and they had no problems with replacing PJ whatsoever - the IP was so big that they would always find a director that would produce to the terms that WB dictates. PJ didn't want the movies and Tolkiens work to be tainted by some random hack. The workload and stress were so intense that it almost killed Peter Jackson. You have to watch some Behind the Scenes stuff. That poor man was miserable.

No no no no no. Interstellar went down in the history books as a ground breaking movie with the likes of which humanity never seen before. It was amazing the story telling was next level and the emotion that it brought out in the audience was palpable enthralling and inescapable to say the least. It enthralled us and left our souls begging for more and with the question of what if. It struck at the very core of humanity with a dream and a vision that we all ponder and want. It’s next level and the emotion it provoked was too. Instant classic unforgettable revolutionary imaginative master piece that push the envelope and did what no other movie could quite grasp. 😉 personally pulled at my heart string like few movies have.

Deep Fakes will be the next big thing. For the next decade we will see more and more realistic (dead) actors made by deep fakes. And after that: going back to real actors in front of real scenes. This will be the quality movie in 10 years, when people realize, that nothing can compare to real people in front of real nature. It will also be accepting our limits (and strengths!) as humans instead of having more and more super heroes on screen. And in 30 years nothing of that will matter, because climate change will finally get people awake and out of their fantasy worlds. While the governments will use the advanced technology to show the elites a fake paradise and keep away the "burden" of mass extinction of animals and humans.

Even when Walt was still alive and in charge they had to make hard financial decisions from time to time. To be fair, it is not even remotely Disney's fault that the company MPC went out of business after working on The Lion King, as they put in their bid for the project and that's what they made for their work. If they underbid the job then that is not Disney's fault.

You know what, at this point we used CG so much i felt "sick" of it, I watched Ghibli studio movies with a touch and balance of CG but mostly hand drawn images were really a masterpiece, a refreshing breeze to the eye.

You should see Ra. One an indian superhero movie. I agree it had weak story line but the concept, action, vfx, costume etc it maybe common in Hollywood but rare in Bollywood.

I Love the old time when Lord of The Rings has less CGI Than Hobit. now even the Actors are CGI....... so embarrassing and movie become very low quality when compare to LOTR. 😞 The battle of five armies not even close to the Battle of Helms deep or Minas Tirith.

Where’s Alita Battle Angel? It was shown on 2019. For me it’s the best. Im a hobbit & LOTR fan, but Alita is super level up

@@sweiland75 i didnt find it hilarious. The movie is not all about the eyes and the vfx achievement doesnt only cover the eyes. The original trailer with bigger eyes though is really off. Good thing they decided to town it down.
