Even in this somewhat odd list, Lord of the Rings gets 7th, 9th and 13th. Best Trilogy ever IMO!

I put Shawshank way up there. It had a great story of hope, never giving up.

OK, how can I explain this without sounding like I'm trying to defend it. The IMDB top 250 list is user generated, so it's film fans and not critics or film scholars making it. All anyone has to do to rate a movie is sign in to the site for a free membership. Also since most of the users are younger, that is why 32 of the top 50 movies were released since 1990.

Imagine how many people who watched certain number of films don't know IMDB exists. Their taste could, but not necessary match this list. Than, how many people are aware IMDB exists but don't bother to register and rate. On the end, how many of them don't find it relevant. I say, IMDB is voice of max 5% of people film related. Not even close for qualifying to rate Best of All Time. Plus, films are made in many countries other than U.S. production-which make 90% of this list. Conclusion: not relevant due to insufficient number of people, who are located in small geographic area which can not be adressed as World.

@nathanakpe Sometimes deviation from source is a good thing, or just necessary. I can’t imagine LotR following the books to a T actually making decent cinema. The Godfather leaves a great deal out from the novel too and it flows much better because of it. This said, Puzo was also on the screenplay so yeah

Schindler's list, life is beautiful and Jurassic Park would do it for me. Jurassic park was something else in terms of cinema, sensational and revolutionary.

There's some movies that always go to the top of the list whenever you hear about favorite movies. Each one of us have our favorites and it makes a big difference on how old we are and how long we've been watching movies. Myself as far as really great movies I have to showcase; Schindler's list, Ben-Hur, Godfather 1 and 2, Forrest Gump, Space Odyssey, Casablanca, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Lawrence of Arabia, Titanic at the top of my list. So many great movies have been made over the years and I've been fortunate enough to see most of these on the big screen when they were first released.

Some of my top movies 🍿 : Requiem for a dream Fight club minority report Top gun Moon ( Sam Rockwell) The whrestler ( Mickey Rourke )

The godfather simply the best.

Sei lá, vcs podem ter gostado, até que gostei, mas não acho esse primor todo. Pra mim não tá nem no top 20, cidade de deus, só pra dar um exemplo, é melhor. Todos que passaram nessa lista acho melhor. Definitivamente um sonho de liberdade ganhou o prêmio de filme mais superestimado da história. Nossa... lista de Schindler, até Titanic é melhor.

I agree, the ending was disappointing, with the hypocritical lawyer getting away with murdering Gerard Butler.

seeing saving private ryan and the departed was giving me peace at heart.. best movies and best actors in it ever!

I knew Shawshank Redemption would be #1 my favorite movie. If your ever in Mandsfield Ohio take a tour of the prison where some of it was filmed very cool

I've always found the difference between the IMDb top films and the Letterboxd top films interesting. With IMDb, the first foreign film comes in at number 21 with Seven Samurai. Within the Letterboxd top 21, there are 12 foreign films; 57% of the top 21 films on Letterboxd are foreign (more than half) compared IMDb's 4%.

That’s one of the big reasons why I prefer Letterboxd, I think it’s way more accurate. Imdb is definitely for mainstream moviegoers, the only reason I use it anymore is for TV shows

I would add The Killing Fields. Plus, if GoodFellas is there, Casino has to be close behind. Both would be above some of the cartoons imo.

These lists can bring back memories, but given human nature no one can pick top 50 movies. But fun idea.

I don't think that Top Gun would be a rate higher than 8 but is actually a nostalgic movie whose marked generations since released. By the way, Top Gun Maverick is one of the best movies released in the last years since the "streaming" is saturating (or just because is a new era of genre) the Superheroes.

The truth, I have not seen it, but I looked for it and the argument is really good. And being based on a Stephen King novel, that's a good sign.

Because it’s a masterpiece

Training day is my best film. Then street kings, then T2, Casino, gangster no1, sexy beast. Road house, top gun. Rocky 4, Rambo 3.💪👍

I have my top 4 movies no one is allowed to hate in front of me: 4) L.A. Confidental 3) Jurassic Park 2) Dune (2021 version) 1) Apollo 13 It's my subjective oppinion, but I think at least Apollo should be on the list

Yes, Jurassic Park is my favourite, I saw it in the movie theater, the first day went out, I was a kid an it was a fantastic show..

I'd forgotten about Apollo 13. Yes, superb film. I have it on DVD which I must fish out, I've not watched it for 20 years.

For real! One of those movies that you expect nothing from but turns out the greatest comedy stuff ever. I remember i laughed as a teen so hard when i watched it. Since then i never laughed quite like that, and recommended it to averyone ha-ha! Must see.

I'm really agreed with this list, I have seen maybe 30-35 of them and there are awesome among the best movies of all time. I'm happy to see the Shawshank redemption, this movie is clearly underrated

That movie Is highly rated at 7.6 on imdb. Definately a classic!
