Yeah like the last one that looks like a nurse from world war 1. Those sleeves would get in everything! And the dress drags along the ground. So unhygienic

Right. My point exactly! How many times are you in a position, like, running, lifting, in the floor etc.... how is a skirt good for those activities?

The fact that these ladies and gentlemen still choose to go to nursing school even tho they have to wear these terrible uniforms.... they should get an extra degree or award or something. That’s sacrifice and dedication, to endure the humiliation of wearing these!! And to think I complained about my school’s uniform... never again will I complain 🙃

It’s 2019. People study medicine for others reasons than just “helping” Back then, to be a nurse was a Vocation. You didn’t give up easily because you knew you wanted to be a nurse no matter what it was.

Where on earth was this nursing school?

Nursing school policy is that the scrubs can’t be too fitting (can’t be flattering or hug our curves) but yet the hospital policy says they can’t be too baggy or loose. I lost 50 lbs and couldn’t really figure out my size yet and I got yelled at for baggy scrubs at work.

I went to school at the University of Miami in the early 1970s. We were so excited because we were some of the first student nurses to be able to wear pants. It was also the time of knit polyester (anyone remember men’s leisure suits?). So our school had bright highlighter yellow knit polyester dresses or the choice of pant suits with a tall nurses’ cap with the UM script emblem and orange and green stripes (our school colors). Sorry I don’t have a picture but by today’s standards this would be as bad as it gets. 🤣🤣🤣 I’m retired now - nurse Pam

can we find out what the school for that last one was????? we need to start a write-in campaign to help these poor souls.

I read somewhere that in Russia, a lot of hospital and nursing school are funded by orthodox church so the nurse kept the original scrubs to play tribute to it. It could be that because it really looks like Russian scrubs

The last one has to be an infection control nightmare, seriously. How could you properly hand wash? Bare below the elbows? And what sort of just plain old dirt do skirts that long track from room to room?

I’d like to know what school wears a full length dress in 2019? Think this may have been a dress up for the history of nursing as it is in color and this uniform was worn in the early 1900s!

I seriously wonder if they are nun nurse's because we have a Catholic hospital that gets a few nun nurses still and they were dresses very close to the last girls a tiny bit more fitted you could see she had shoes.

I remember in NZ in the early 90s the charge nurse wore that all blue one and I initially thought she was the cleaner...not that I object to cleaners-it was just confusing.

My nursing school uniform made me look like an escaped convict.

Ours made us look like Target employees (red scrub top and khaki scrub bottoms with white shoes). When we were trying to round everyone up on the floor in order to go to lunch, or we couldn't find someone, we would call a "code khaki" lmfao!

50 yrs ago, my nursing school uniform was a white blouse with a blue pinstriped pinafore. The buttons were removable so that the items could be washed and starched....and ironed on a mangle. The hospital laundered them for us. The buttons clipped on with tiny cotterpins. When we bent over sometimes a button would separate from the pin and would be lanched across the room ! We always carried extra buttons and pins in our pockets.

Well, now I have to look up the nursing school uniforms for the college I plan on going to, because if they’re that bad I’m going to have to go somewhere else

5:10 So that is my school uniform and I just wanted to share that about a month after this video came out they retroactively changed our uniforms to a much nicer gray and maroon (Cherokee infinity style) so my cohort is the last group to suffer through all white and bibs! THANK YOU NURSE BLAKE !

You should do the best nursing school uniforms !!

fyi for those unaware- that last lady in the “nun” looking outfit? her nursing uniform is actually likely heavily inspired or based off of the actual nurse uniforms worn by VAD nurses during WWI. i personally really like VAD nurse uniforms, and i quite like (though less so) the lady’s student uniform.

I think it's cool but imagine you're in the ER and you see her doing CPR on your loved one or something. It looks like a costume, not to mention it looks impossible to stay clean in it

Wow, I feel so good about my nursing school uniform now. I thought having to tuck in our polo shirts was annoying. These are incredible.

Mine looked like the last one in style, only the skirt was mid-calf, sleeves to the elbow. The cap had to be starched by hand, and the buttons were clipped on. The buttons had to be removed for every wash. It was extremely uncomfortable for me as I have a short waistline, and the band went across my rib cage. Ugh! I went to nursing school in the early 80’s.

That last one... how does she approach an iso room??? That extra fabric is very concerning 🤯

My sister in law and my friend are both in nursing school. They just wear scrubs in a specific color for each year that’s different than the local hospitals color. Why in the world do they still do nursing school uniforms?

That last round had me thinking I was watching an episode of Call the Midwife. Bless their souls.

My nursing school uniform was horrific! Red/ white striped shirt, that had a Peter pan collar, a white vest or jacket, or the shirt with a jumper that made everybody who wore it look like they were 6 feet wide.

This makes me really thankful that I get really nice blue scrubs for my uniform, haha!

Mine wasn't bad. It was white scrubs and we had to sew velcro on the sleeve so that we can move our school patch from top to top, top to jacket and back. Our shoes had to be all white. I remeber we had to paint white out over the Nursemates blue heart.

I was a respiratory therapist, I was interested in nursing, the prerequisites are the same as RT training, I delayed my decision because of the uniforms. Some nursing students had to wear pinafores, it was horrid horrid horrid!

I just love your videos. Lol such happiness and energy you bring. My daughter is a new nurse as well and she’s the one that showed me your page. All I know is I just adore you and am so glad your a nurse to make this world a healthier place.

When I went to nursing school I just had Navy blue scrubs that said UC Irvine health on them. The staff nurse uniforms were light blue for one week. Then they switched to Navy. I was confused for a staff rn constantly. Was horrible for patient safety but it was probably good for me.

I find the last nursing uniform kind of fascinating. It actually kind of looks like what the VAD nurse in WW1 would wear. It is kind of cool that they are wearing it, but as far as functionality goes, those sleeves wouldn't allow for proper hand-washing and the skirt needs to be hemmed up for mobility. I do love the history behind it though!

You need to do a segment on when nurses were sequestered in nursing schools and not allowed to marry or have relationships with men until they graduated.

Interesting that nursing uniforms historically have been copies of maids, waitresses, cooks, nuns,candy store attendants ...kind of shows you how much they have been valued.

I actually love the caps on nurses (now I actually have never seen one on in person) but now days it is so hard to tell between the diffrent hospital facility. Evan the difference between dentist, veterinarians, doctors, and even in home health care aides.

It was The University of Texas Health Science Center that in Houston in the late 80’s. It was solid white preppy with the bright orange patches.

I had a maroon smock for uniform in nursing school. I gave it back when I graduated but they soon closed the program. Something about there being an over saturation on LPNs in the area but we have a nursing shortage. Lol.

Should have seen mine! We wore PLAID with an apron! Rappahannock community Collage in Virginia. Of course we had to wear white stockings and white uniform shoes I don't think anyone had their pictures taken . I did like my hat which had a red over a blue velvet ribbon attached with a silver seagull on each side.

You know where the 1890 uniform came from at the end of the very last one that’s literally what it looks like I love it but I happen to love that time. I’m just really shocked how does she keep not from falling if she’s running down the hallway I guess she has to lift your skirt and run

Lol my first year of nursing school first day of clinical. We all had scrub jackets. I was the only one who was smart enough to have there name imbroeded into the jacket. At the end of the day we were looking for our jackets put on a cart the teacher had. I separated mine in didn't pile it up loose everyone else.I grabbed mine right away but everyone else had their jackets mixed up. 3 days later 3 students came down with a weird rash it seemed to come from the jackets cuz someone had a contagious rash and it spread. I didn't get it cuz my jacket I separated it from everyone else. Plus it had my name on it so it made it easy to fine.

I didn’t realize how lucky I am. I just had to pick out a pair of black scrubs to get the school logo sewn onto.

Those long sleeves and long dress just scream cross contamination to me. Yikes!

Ours is pretty decent. Top & bottom scrub (Mobb is a good brand) but specific colour. Now as an employee. I’m liking Whitecross brand for men.

Wow those are ugly! Mine uniform was just navy blue top and pants, normal scrubs. Were only allowed a white long sleeve shirt underneath. Even for pinning just white scrubs no hats or anything ugly. I feel really lucky!

I like the cruise ship minus the white stockings. I could wear those (not the tan dress though)

This is to keep students from dating or having any social life which in turn will keep you focused in your studies 😁.

Our student uniforms were thick crimpo line material that didn't breathe. All white. White stocking required with white nursing shoes, no sports shoes. You had to sew student nurse, school patch on left sleeve. No caps, we were modern. Unfortunately my first job demanded a cap, had to go to a Nursing store and just buy one that stayed on my head since none affiliated with my school.

The flying nun at the 95% on my God is that funny as hell!

In my hospital everyone no matter if nursing student or chief of medicine wears the same: plain white basic scrubs that actually look kind of flattering but I always thought it’s boring and wanted to have a nursing school uniform. Now I think I’m happy with my boring scrubs 😂
