Everyone on her season says how much of a threat she was and how she was so great socially

Courtney was iconic in Heroes vs Villains too. Yes she could of been more iconic if she was edited better, but I loved her addition in Heroes vs Villains. But with Courtney, the show only wanted to portray he as a "mean girl". Courtney had plenty of moments were she was nice and the show decided they didn't want to show that side of her.

Even before HvV this was true. Leslie from China said in an interview that whenever she had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, Courtney would always get up to go with her so that crew would follow with their cameras and lights in case the two did any strategizing that could've been missed

Hearing Alison talk after dvg about how confused she was by the edit when she sat down to watch with her family got me. Bc clearly she was playing a great game since they kept in everyone targeting her but left out the context for why

Even if I didn’t see the thumbnail, I would know Chelsea is on the list. She played one of the best games that season and didn’t even get a confessional on her boot episode. I would be devastated watching back if I were her.

41 is honestly one of the most fascinatingly awfully edited seasons in the history of Survivor. Its status as the the first season to air after COVID and the first of the New Era makes its problems so much more interesting than a season like Samoa or Ghost Island whose editing problems can be easily identified and explained. The over focusing on the new twists and advantages as part of the story leaving players invisible until they were involved in a twist like Erika, or completely invisible when they never found one like Heather. The show trying to obscure the winner in order to not make things obvious. Luvu’s winning streak leaving the entire tribe in the dust in terms of content. The positioning of Deshawn and Xander as the season’s main narrators making their blowout losses at final tribal seem baffling. The relationship of Ricard and Shan being so fascinating that the show had to devote so much screen time to it. A lot of factors lead to the bad edit of 41 and that’s why I find it so fascinating as a viewer, cause there really was a great Survivor season at its core, but the show getting in the way of itself spoiled the whole thing.

If it had been better edited, ie spend any time on Luvu who had 4 of their players in the final 6, I think it would have been an alright season Probably not too 10 but the edit and twists make the season drag immensely

Susie is underrated. She was a soft spoken mom type that Type A players thought they could use as an obedient soldier. She flipped on Marcus because she knew she’d be playing for 5th place with him. That’s the best reason to flip: improving a position in the game.

She should have won but of course the bitter jury dont want a "traitor" to win ,but cmon susie never had a chanche to win with them + they are ploting take her at final 5 before even the final 6 ,if someone in Gabon had a reason to flip that person is Susie and she just blindisided the potential winner of that season .

I won't ever forget how she flipped not once but twice and put in the work to make it to the end? Queen and the Susie resurgence from superfans lately is very nice cause I use to say she was one of the blueprints for when to flip right.

Darrah Johnson. Easily the first blatantly purpled female survivor player. Always surprised she doesn’t get mentioned more. Barely ANY confessionals aside from the iconic “sometimes Jon lies but sometimes he tells the truth” quote (it’s giving “milked the milk” vibes), yet she nearly swept the endgame immunity challenges and had to have production step in with a one-off “jury immunity challenge” to ensure more popular players made the finale. And it was ironically her lack of speaking to Lil in the end that guaranteed her ouster when she refused to confirm her voting plans against Jon or Sandra. She was the original BRETT imo, with a bit of Kelly Shinn thrown in.

Chelsea being the least visible character ever is insane to me. I really have no idea what the editors thought they were doing with ghost island, only giving screentime to like 6 characters.

I immediately thought Sunday in millennials vs gen x. Another cast with such big and interesting characters, but I’ve heard she really had a great shot for the win, and her elimination always seemed to highlight how they didn’t quite build who she was in the game to reflect her boot and standings. I’d like to have seen more of her and what she accomplished. RIP Sunday

Seriously. Take 20 confessionals away from Russell, since let's face it. A lot of them are the same 'I'm the best and this is how you win Survivor' stuff repeated over and over. Russell would still easily have the most confessionals if you wanted that, because I acknowledge that he's good TV. But then you can give Kelly, Brett, and Natalie ~7 more confessionals each in this hypothetical which would already do a lot of good if they were used correctly

​@@qu4ry529oh for sure. Especially after having heard that it seemed like she was very likely to make final 3 and was apparently more strategic than some of the others. Cuz if i remember correctly from some survivor amas: dave, monica, and laura all planned some sort of final 3 which included kelly. I also think russell after the fact mentioned something about kelly either being a strategic threat or basically being the glue to keep galu together, but i cant confirm that one. Regardless, a better edit for her would have made an already iconic idol play that much more iconic if they actually showcased her apparent threat level instead of basically editing her out of the show.

@@PinkLightnanThis right here is the travesties of Samoa. I still think it’s a decent season, but you can just see that it has all the bones to be great season. Galu and Foa Foa have interesting players, but they never offered them a chance to shine. If Russel just lost like 40% (arbitrary number but still) of his confessionals the season would be stellar.

Ugh I love Alison Heather and Susie so much. You really grabbed all of my random favs for this list

The crazy thing about Ghost ISland is Chelsea was one of 5 players that could be seen as purple (with Angela, Desiree, Sebastian, and Jenna). The editing was so lopsided on this season and I don't think its a coincidence that after 38 the casting director Lynn Spelmen was fired and they started casting more superfans.

Lauren on 44 I think needed a better edit. For a fifth placer who apparently had a pivotal alliance with the winner that helped in getting them in that FTC seat, omitting her from the story was a choice and a half. Honestly, Jamie Lynn too, she was also much more important to the strategy of the game than portrayed and the producers just wanted to portray her as a whacky yoga mom.

Courtney had the best confessionals in HvV's and she was so dynamic with Sandra in season 20

I'm so happy to see Susie here! Gabon is my favorite season ever (I love messy trainwreck-y seasons), she's a big reason why and you've explained it perfecty.

I totally remember Chelsea being nearly nonexistent from the edit and the confessionals, and then when she finally had more screentime it was because she was getting voted out that episode.

I remember reading an article that said for the new Fire-Making Challenge, one of its many flaws, does not provide a satisfactory conclusion to someone's story. If you lose the fire-making, you didn't really do something inherently wrong (and I'd even argue the challenge is to a degree luck based), but you're out the game. Its just easier to give someone a minimal edit if they lose fire making because then they don't have to try and close the story.

Definitely Erika from Survivor 41. One of the big players of the season, with a whole dynamic with Heather, and yet we barely saw any of it.

Erika and Heather were pretty much the power duo of the season and they just didnt care for either, wich is so sad, instead we got xander, shan and ricard, and as much as I like these 3 as characters, the entire blue tribe deserved more, for having 4 people going in the top 6, they got nothing. And susies edit was also just so sad. they just didnt care for her at all, but the mom archetype who flips to better her game and is one of the bigger challenge threaths of the season, could make for such a good story on such a messy season but somehow they just gave her and edit that didnt show her an made her look bad.

Gabler, he was edited as a goofy goat and then at the vote everyone loved him and it’s like what where? I blame that they did not know how to edit new era

Gabler isn't that bad, especially on a rewatch. His game isn't the most translatable to the screen bc he was literally the "Alligabler", being outside of the water only when he needed to (with Elie) and for most of the game was just very social, influential, and UTR compared to Jesse, Cody, Karla, etc'. The one major problem was how the edit didn't bother to shake off his "goofy old dude who shouldn't be taken seriously" reputation since the premerge, bc his premerge was rocky, which is absolutely fine bc no winner is perfect, but there wasn't enough buildup to his game validity for his win, only in FTC I was like, wait a minute, Gabler actually has a shot in this. And many others still didn't think he had a shot up until the literal very last vote. Also didn't help that the literal only 2 people who wouldn't have voted for him were with him at FTC and we saw their perspective and not the jury's, which ig is a baller move for Gabler to make sure the two people who wouldn't vote for him are not eligeble to vote in the jury 😂

@@zoharshaked726he didnt ensure that though. cassidy had the control and made all the decisions and the jury saw her game as too cut throat and made up lies because they (on a personal level) liked gabler more. all of their post game interviews none of them praise his game, just how nice he was and that they liked him. he had no game to vote for which is disgusting. im glad he donated the money cause he didnt deserve to win.

@@tomiharv5923 You're coping mate. Cassidy had barely any control, just as little as Gabler did. Really only Cody and Jesse did the strongest moves and had control. Cassie was in a tight alliance with James but he got 2nd juror and later on she was almost on the outs when Ryan was voted out, on a move that Gabler actively took part it, though he didn't make it, again, Jesse and Cody did. None of the final three were strategically strong... at all. But Gabler had the edge on some moves like the Elie stuff and he was also much closer to Jesse and Cody than Cassie ever was. Cass played a respectable game but it wasn't special and it wasn't enough for her to win. And yeah, likability brings you a long way. Even if Cassidy did make insane moves all season, if she were to be unlikable enough, she wouldn't have won.

I understand you're argument (but not I am not giving you credit for Gabler ensuring Owen/Cass did not end on the jury cause he really did not), but the inherent issue with how he won and the narrative he won is it does not make sense. To your point, they never took off the "negative" persona of someone who couldn't be taken seriously which is the main issue. To contrast, compared to Cassidy, in which multiple people season long have wanted her out cause she is a "threat", was a much better narrative. I fully agree with your point that if you're not liked, you won't win, simple. Issue I have is we NEVER saw anyone talk good about Gabler other than being a vote. Even his Ride or Die Alliance (that randomly becomes relevant even though again, he was just a vote) didn't talk highly about him. FTC literally just felt like the jury giving him credit for things he did not do, which they did and as you said yourself, Jesse/Cody were the main arbitrators of moves. I will give him immense credit for how he spoke at FTC, cause he truly ate, but nothing lined up. Moreover, I will say, Jesse shutting Cassidy down for the Ryan blindside was, again, inherently wrong but Cass had an incredible point because not only did Jesse/Cody want her out, she worked on their relationship to the point it was stronger than Ryan. That is a move. Jesse had the power but he can't say Cass didn't put in work to make sure he used the power to her favor. Not to mention Ryan's asinine speech that "Owen you won 3 Challenges, Cass you won 3, and Gabler you won 1 which means you're all equal physically) is just one of the dumbest things I have ever heard but it still gives Gabler credit for nothing. My point being, if they hated Cassidy, fine but the fact they went through mental gymnastics to give Gabler credit for nothing is incredibly poor and the fact that some regret their decision post game is very telling.

Sherea on the other hand won the battle against Dan and was insulated incredibly well with her tribe, her and Frosti were swap screwed and she would’ve made merge if her old tribe didn’t win immunity (which they were trying to throw).

If his answer - which disappointed her - led her to change her vote, thereby changing the outcome of who won that season (still got some major doubts on whether those after-the-fact-tales are all 100% acurate), it would seem like an important piece of information. After seeing the pole challenge this week, I got to thinking, which challenges have been played in the most seasons?

Brett was so invisible that during the auction I remember seeing him and thinking, “who’s he? When did he get there?” I literally thought it was more likely that he randomly joined the show in the middle of the season than him being there all along

I always wonder why certain people get such an invisible edit too, especially when they go far - like they were cast for a reason, they obviously saw something in them to put them on the show in first place. And then especially if they're going deep in the game, why are they so invisible?? I get there's limited air time, I get that we get to know the losing tribes better than the winning tribes by virtue of the format, but even then, some of the editing decisions - like this list!! - make very little sense. 41 is such a mess but it was absolutely ridiculous to me that we almost didn't even know Heather's name into well into the merge and then it wasn't until the last few episodes where we were told that Erika and Heather were super close and have been all season. I remember literally saying out loud to my family, "Are they???? Have they even spoken to each other that we've seen?!" SUCH a weird choice to me to hide her SO much. Honestly wish we could get 90 min cuts of all past seasons where they fix weird editing choices. 😂😂

Hard agree on Susie. I've been a proponent of Susie for a while now and really wish that she won Gabon over Bob. I think she played a really good game for sure.

Ghost Island in general could have used a better edit. Wendell and Dom are the only 2 they made seem were playing the game. I know a lot of contestants came out of that season saying they couldn't believe how much wasn't shown.

I'm still bitter to this day over Chelsea's edit on Ghost Island. To see in real time her fellow castaways post about how shocking it was that she didn't receive a proper edit because she was one of the biggest strategic forces in the game was really disappointing. And to top it off, the only bit the editors gave her was her crying over a coffee award pre-merge. I think seasons like Ghost Island and Samoa, any season really, would been far more compelling if there was a more well-rounded and equalized edit. I'd prefer to watch 20 people with a story than 4 main characters and 16 people that I won't remember in 2 days.

I never felt Courtney was that underedited on HvV, given how stacked the cast was and where she placed. She had a dynamic duo thing going on with Sandra and was still shown to be funny. I agree with the picks though, and oh surprise, most of them are women.

That's why I think 90 minute episode works 100x better. With a 60 min episode we would never have gotten the hide and seek scenes lol

As someone who played the game, watching edits back can really invalidate your experience. You’re searching for your truth through the producers fantasy. Very hard. The game experience however was EPIC!!!

Trust me. I love survivor. But it’s very clear that women are so much more under edited than men. 4/5 on the list are women, and 5/6 if you count your Courtney example. And most of these seasons aren’t that old! This video is proof that women on survivor are still treated unfairly in comparison. (do better editors)

I am once again mourning the loss of what a good cool season Samoa could have been if they just gave a shit about ANYONE else..

I don't think Mike as a writer and performer but also an intelligent strategist was unaware that he did a bit of a heel turn late in his game but aligning with a powerful player who was less powerful than Allison in addition to a borderline cretin was the best he could have played with the hand he was dealt with. Also she still voted for him with the two other powerhouses from the late game to win so I guess strength can recognise strength. Regardless, the way Angelina treated her with the fake idol shtick was comically cruel.

Damn, I can’t believe they gave one of the frontmen of The Dragonz such a poor edit 😒😒

Courtney is the definition of an anti-hero, not a villain. Just saying. I obviously know she was a "villain" on "Heroes V Villain", but they didn't exactly get everybody correct now, did they? Love her regardless of what she is labeled as.

I'm not sure how publicly known it is, but why Brett was under edited is potentially known. There was a period on twitch where streamer Will Neff was watching through Samoa, and happened to get into contact with Dave Ball. Eventually he had him on and there was a bit of an interview on stream. At some point the conversation got to why Brett was under edited, and Dave said that at one merge tribal council, it was a member of the jury's birthday, to which Brett had mouthed "happy birthday" to her. Apparently Jeff was outraged at this, as players were not to communicate to the jury and it's believed that his ire was carried in to the editing rooms. This also is just 2 seasons off of Nicaragua, so the idea of Jeff's dislike of a player being this influential is not out of the question.
