I grew up with Payless shoes (champions) white ones, we where poor but I kept them clean u member!!! then one day I found somebody’s old Nike’s they threw away and I cut out the Nike symbols and glued them to my champions damm I thought I was bad ass I wore those shoes like I stole them .

We were middle class and always rocked the champions. I'm still in my minors but work around the neighborhood to afford my own collection of Nike, adidas, jordans,etc. I was still always proud of my champions tho! These days, champion is a hype brand and cool but the shoes are still eh. But I never hate on the champions!

That's the problem today. Too many kids are used to wearing Jordan's since their infant years, sadly they won't ever grow up understanding how to manage their money and use cheaper alternatives. I member when Payless had shoes for cheap but they were called ProWings & XJ900's. They wouldn't last me more than 2 months before they would be blown out and had to be replaced. I went to Payless a few years ago and now they're shoes cost almost as much as Footlocker.

To my knowledge, Keds has stopped selling men’s shoes due to not having the same success in recent years. An account exec from the company has mentioned of the reconstruction of the basics (ortholite technology) and focusing on the fact of the large female customer base since the brand launched long ago. Fun fact: PF Flyers can be found in the movie To Kill a Mockingbird. They are the sneakers Jem and Scout Finch wear. My silliest fondest memory of Kangaroos sneakers was seeing a set of flip flops made with the zippered pouch. It’s fun to know they retained their trademark regardless of the style of shoe.

I'm 45, so I came up before PC took over. Back in middle school, we used to refer to L.A. Gears as "L.A. Queers".

I actually bought a pair of Diadora sneakers a few weeks ago (shipped from Italy) and their Heritage line is amazing!!! Many of the brands you mentioned are still quite popular in Europe.

Just Deadeye DC still rockin man they have a good few nice skate shoes. They still make those big clunky shoes that not so long ago were actually still popular. But I THINK (don't take this as scripture tho) that their more modern looking, light weight styled shoes are a little more popular. I gotta say personally there's a few pairs of DC's I'd wear but I think in my opinion, in terms of skate shoes, I'd say Etnies have kinda left DC behind to some extent.

I LOVED my Lugs circa 2004. I also had a pair of shoes that has a SB on them, but I can't remember the brand name. Everlast is another brand from the 90s that was EVERYWHERE, then just dropped off the face of the earth.

Pro specs, Spaulding Clydes, Thom McCan Jox, Mark 5's , big in NY in the late 70's early 80's

K-Swiss was the shit 10 years ago. I remember having the Kicks with the tongue that would turn in and out!

Russell Smith not in europe, their higher end stuff is made in germany and very well known and respected for their quality and awesome collabs by the sneaker enthusiasts in europe. It seems to me that america just knows nike, jb, adidas and fucking under armour, which is not even considered a real sneaker brand here in europe. You have awesome stuff like new balance and saucony which originated in your country, but guys dont seem to support your not so well known but awesome stuff at all, very sad.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the Converse Chet Atkins release for guitar players.
