The north wants to enjoy the advantage of a landlocked south Incase of war hence the need to keep the south without a link to the outside world except Lagos......All the seaports mentioned in this video that are outside Lagos are only re-presented as a drawing or prototype.......A functional seaports outside Lagos will never see the light of the day as long as this one sided marriage called Nigeria continue.

What a wonderful list of projects, am proud of my country, but am seeing an express doom ahead. Nigeria please open your eyes naa How can the funding and shares of these projects all China, the shares 52% China, at least for the Lekki. And you think no strings attached? Look, another mistake we are doing is that as good as it is fabulous, this will boost import of goods, we haven't understood that when we import, we give another country our money and sell whatever they have given us in a higher selling price to our people. It is making us poorer as a continent. We should be producing all our “general goods”. I believe strongly in Nigeria and Africa. But we should be strongly independent of China especially.

You are right, but China is the only country keen to investing in Africa. Those westerners will scare you away from investors like China then they will blame you for the failure of your country. I understand that Africa should build capacity and human capital but you also need critical infrastructures. I don’t see anything wrong in getting China to help with infrastructure while locals can also get employment and skill transfer. We Africans have to learn from China. China have made tremendous progress in the last 30 years.

  • @DanielGodlive

Your points are valid but no country in the world can grow without foreign investment especially in today’s globalised world. China today is economic giant they’re because the US, the Western and Western companies and corporations invested massively in cheap labour in China. China used that money to build infrastructures, build enabling environment for domestic companies to flourish and started its own industrialisation. Today, they’re are the second largest economy in the world. And for importing, seaport are not build just for import but export as well. Today if Dangota refinery come to live. Nigeria will soon produced its own refined products that it can export and we can export agricultural products. All we need do is build more infrastructure, industries, refineries and more our economy not only dependent on raw materials export but also export finished goods. That goal lies primary on the federal, state governments to create enabling environment and help the private sector and foreign investors come and build industries, factories and infrastructure here in Nigeria. Lastly, no matter who owes the project. One thing is certain, the projects are build in Nigeria. If all of them are build and become operational in the next 2-5 years then it’ll create millions of direct and indirect jobs. Also solve a lot of logistical problems for business especially as the seaports are build cross to railway lines and states that have local and international airports. It means goods can move more freely in Nigeria. One thing I like about one of the seaport is that is going to deal with good for other countries that don’t have seaports. Imagine the revenue and soft power that provide Nigeria.

What stupid reasoning. Go and research the importance of deep seaports and free trade zones in boosting economic productivity, trade, and employment. The seaports will not be 'dilapidated' in 3 years because there is private sector investment in their development which ensures maintenance clauses are adhered to. Try to learn more about how these projects operate before moaning.

I’ve only watched the first 2mins and I’m already asking questions. It cost $2billion to build. 75% of it belongs to foreign investors, 20% to Lagos state and the 5% to FG. How is this even good business??? This lekki port basically belongs to foreigners mainly to China smh. Funny enough it doesn’t even cost that much, Nigeria could’ve use it’s own money to build this and then get 100% return on it. Bad bad bad business in my eyes!

That's not how it works. They have a management concession for a 30 year period. Nigerian government still owns all duties/monies generated at the port. The concessionaire will be able to recoup their investment in this period. This kind of management concession exists at Tincan RORO although the concessionaire didn't build the port.

Those people aren't serious. You don't have to spend $4 billion in one swing to build a deep sea port. Cast the bucket when you are - start small. Vietnam has built several deep sea ports with just $200 million, adding additional berths as time went on. Nobody is going to invest $4 billion in a port project in a politically volatile country like Nigeria with an ineffectual customs services and archaic clearance system. It's way too risky. However, if you can put your money where your mouth is and show it to be a workable model then the capital will come gushing in. Restructure it to be in phases, and focus on getting Phase One on track. Invest $300 million to get at least one world-class berth capable of hosting large vessels of over 50,000 TEUs then progress from there
