I love George and i gotta tell you ,him coming back in his 40s and knocking out a 20 something Michael Moorer with a simple quick 1 2 combo cements him as one of the all time greats. Foreman would have knocked out Tyson i believe. And when knocked Moorer that was nearly the upset Ali knocking him was and guess what Angelo Dundee was in both winning corners.

George has said himself that he went into the fight the most confident he ever felt, saying, on many occasions, that he was not even nervous and was positive of winning by a knockout within 2 to 3 rounds. 2 Top reasons Ali won the fight. 1 - He was more experienced, having beaten great fighters, including the so called monster, Sonny Liston, and avenging his losses. 2 - Although both men were tough in the ring, Ali was a lot smarter.

I love how they mention Zaire as a country and decided to reach with the black magic stuff but left out the oppressive heat the morning of the fight. Even early in the morning the temps were in the 80s/90s and climbing in a humid outdoor climate. This wasn’t as severe as Ali’s fight in the Philippines years later but still a significant factor. Ali’s conditioning was out of this world for a heavyweight and Foreman, used to ending fights early, was not prepared for a lengthy brawl in the African heat wasting punches on Ali’s masterful defense. It wasn’t any more or less hot for Ali but Ali used it to his advantage while Foreman was a victim of it. This deserved to be mentioned much more than some witch doctor bs.

A boxing list I'd do: The top 5 reasons you can't blame Richard Steele for the controversial ending of the Chavez-Taylor fight. Best of the Rest 1. The legacy - although Steele might have been too impulsive in stopping the fight, it was a better fight than expected. 2. Don King - many felt that Chavez, represented by King, got some points just on name alone. Top 5 5. Nevada State Athletics Commission - they gave him the fight in the first place. 4. One Night in Tokyo - one reason that this fight was even set up was to generate more excitement for boxing, and the incentive was Douglas knocking out Tyson. 3. Julio Cesar Chavez - while he lost the majority of the rounds, he came on strong in the end, and finally fought his own fight in the final few rounds. 2. The corner - they told him to get into a slugfest, which was horrible strategy against a fighter like Chavez, and Lou Duva reportedly tried to give him directions during the final seconds, which distracted him when Steele asked him if he was okay to continue. 1. Taylor was done - I've always put it this way: he had the fight of his life, but against the wrong opponent. Chavez's punches were so brutal that he took an absolute beating. In fact, he was so disoriented that he almost knocked himself out during the final round by slipping on the ground, and went to the wrong corner one round before. Looked at a certain way, Steele's decision saved Taylor's life.

Reason can be many but the truth is that ALI is the all time Greatest no doubt .

Foremans loss to Ali is a lost victory...he was young and his personality too inmature...after flattening literally everybody before this fight and just coming from destroying 2 of the hardest nuts in the heavyweight division who both beat Ali (Frazier & Norton) he clearly suffered from hubris...he committed the capital error of underestimatng Ali and overestimating himself at the same time. Ali knew after 2 rounds he couldnt defeat the physically vastly superior Foreman so he adapted his style...started the rope-a dope to maintain his head out of Foremans reach and constantly provoked Foreman verbally...so while Foreman got angrier he threw more uncoordinated punches who exhausted him over time without seriously hurting Ali...we all know how that ended. So Alis achivement here is not that he was the better boxer (he was not - not at that time anymore) but the smarter, more cool headed warrior who used the younger guys hubris against him. Foreman has beaten himelf in Africa...

Ali's fast hand speed, fast foot speed, dancing, bouncing in the ring, bob & weaving his head, able to take hard punches, constantly throwing punches and constantly throwing combination punches. is which cause him to beat big George.

No doubt , George Foreman was one of the best heavyweights to ever live , but why people then say Ali was the greatest ? thats because he was more than a boxer, he was one of the greatest humanitarian. He was a great boxer but even greater outside the ring. He loved people genuinely, meeting them, talking to the. Stood for blacks against Vietnam War when no one else did. And for that he got striped of his title when he was at his most prime years. the fact that even his fiercest opponents love him and say good things about him tells the kind of man he was. Just see any video of joe frazier, mike tyson or even George Foreman talking about Ali and you ll know .... and also you will find many videos of people on KZread remembering Ali and crying for him, discussing their tiny life events with Ali that had a life changing impact on them. He was not a boxer, He was an Idea , a concept , A Symbol, An Icon ........ for the people and the world......

It's worth pointing out Ali never gave Foreman a rematch. I think deep down he realized he caught lightening in a bottle in Zaire and if they ever fought again Foreman would be properly prepared for the "rope a dope" strategy. Plus, a rematch would probably have been fought in the States--(like Madison Square Garden)--also a benefit to Foreman (who was NEVER comfortable in Africa--which in my mind was as much of a contributor to his loss in that fight as anything else.) Honestly, if they had a return bout I think Big George could've beaten Ali!

But you shyed away from a big one and Foreman addressed it at long length after he worked over the 5 guys. He objected to the fact that a boxer should not be allowed to lay on the ropes alot of the fight and when ali first started doing it he was booed as unsportsman like. In the older fights a person was not even allowed to crouch over the ref would stand the person back up. On Liston 2 after the knockdown he did get back up and the fight continued. Ali threw a few punches no contact AND THE FIGHT WAS STOPPED IN TWO SECONDS. "they said Ali was throwing unanswered punches" He would have lost anyway but what if Liston simply layed on the ropes for 2 or 3 minutes? they would have stopped the fight based on that alone. Yet within a few years it gradually became "genius strategy" Laying on the ropes indefinitely should be scored accordingly or deductions or ref step in and say "get back into the ring"

Two prominent combatants met for the right to be champion. One possessed a keen wit and rapier-like skill. The opponent wielded the power of a broadsword and moved with a single-mindedness of predator stalking prey. Any sports historian or boxing fan can easily identify which fighter fits their part of the analogy.

Ali was smart, but he had the courage to take those formidable punches from George. Even Frazier was wanted Ali to win because he knew that he cannot take Foreman. Who is willing to take this kind of punch, and say "is that all you got sucker?". Remember Ali had his jaw broken by Norton for he was hit while he was talking. If I were Ali, I would never talk in a fight. But he were willing to play with him. . If the fight were get longer no doubt that Ali could have killed him. George was stumbling from the 4th round. Ali was smart enough to fight in that way, in that city, in that condition. He chose Zaire because he knew that in that city Foreman would be tired. He danced in the first round while in the second didn't cos he was trying to tire up George and and keep his own strength. He leaned on the ropes, and on George sometimes, not to lose his stamina. Yes, you could have said that George was the best puncher of the time. But Ali showed in order to be the best you should not be a hitting machine. you should be Courageous, patient, smart and motivated enough to get what you want. He made it. Nobody could.

Ali continued to lean on him waring him down. Sometimes it looked like a wrestling match instead of a boxing match. The referee didn’t do justice he should have broken Ali stopping him from his antics. The fact was Ali played it smart conserving his energy in the humidity and heat by letting Foreman chase after him Foreman throwing his best punches till he couldn’t throw anymore. I believe if Ali would have had a rematch with George he probably would have lost

You can't say that. If Ali fought foreman in USA he would have used the same strategy. Remember foreman did not have the stamina to get along in 12 round with Ali, and he did not have alternative plan. Ali could have taken him in 10th round in USA. Ali could take every punch. If he fell down he would get up, like when he did it in Ali vs Frazier. Even in USA because of tempeture Ali could dance in more than one round, say 3 or 4 round and this would get tired the big Foreman. Ali went to the strategy and foreman went to the power.
