    Extracurriculars are so important for the med school application. I was able to become a medical interpreter as an undergrad and would definitely recommend for anyone who speaks two languages. Thank you for the video!

    So the scribing is like double dipping in shadowing and work, so do you think pre meds should avoid shadowing if they are scribing? Or still try to get both in.

  • @DrAdnan

    @DrAdnan

    5 жыл бұрын

    I think shadowing is a great experience if you can get it, you really want to do it, and there’s a purpose behind it (you’re exploring specialties or practice settings you like or want to figure out your niche in medicine). However, I think it’s less value than more active shadowing activities so less of a priority. Everything has value but there’s different levels so it depends on your time and interests.

    Do you think working as an EMT as an undergrad can help your application or count as clinical experience? Also does going to a community college and completing some pre-reqs then transferring to a high ranked university and finishing your degree hurt your medical school application?

  • @DrAdnan

    @DrAdnan

    4 жыл бұрын

    Alqasim Elnaggar Yeah, working as an EMT is a great extracurricular that will help your app. Going to a CC isn’t a dealbreaker especially if the rest of your application is good, and I know lots of people who get into med school doing the CC/transfer route, but it is often looked upon a little better by med schools if you do your courses at a 4 year university. If you think you’ll be on the edge maybe try and do the 4 year university route or save some of your premed prereqs for after you transfer, but generally CC should be fine.

    hi! i have over 550 volunteer hours from a hospital near me but i did it when i was in high school. would that be something to put on my application?

  • @DrAdnan

    @DrAdnan

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi! While generally high school school activities aren’t recommended, if you continued those throughout college or if they were really significant you could add them. I would also refrain from making that activity your most meaningful. I think I did reference one high school activity but it was my last activity/experience in the long list of slots.

    how did you decide what you want to specialize on? I’m still not sure whether I should do psychiatry or pediatry.

  • @DrAdnan

    @DrAdnan

    3 жыл бұрын

    I’ll try to record a video this week! Pediatrics is a lot more medicine and breadth (also physical human interaction esp with kids and their parents). Psych is a lot more history taking and prescribing meds for psych issues so it’s focused. Psych pays a lot more with better hours while peds is financially poorly compensated compared to other specialties unfortunately. Peds will also not just have more medicine but more procedures and things as well as opportunities to subspecialize and not just make more money but do a lot of cool specialized things like oncology or cardiology.
