What is your recommendation if I shadow a doctor as a second year pre med student, should I ask for a letter of rec after I finish the shadowing experience or wait until its closer to when I file my medical school application? Great video by the way, Im shadowing a dermatologist next week and this helped a lot!

I would ask for a letter after you finish the set of shadowing experiences unless you continue building a relationship with that person or group (doing research with them, helping them with projects, working for them, etc). If you wait till closer to the application cycle, they probably won’t remember you as well, and there may even be timing issues (since a lot of people will be asking for a lor then, and if the letter writer is late it hurts you more, etc). @@DrAdnan Thank you for the response! :) Do you know if I should have him write the letter and have a signature, future date on it, and in a sealed envelope? And then I would hold onto the letter and mail it to Amcas when the time comes? I found mixed responses online so I wanted to get your opinion if you know!

No problem! What I did, and what I would recommend, is using an online dossier like Interfolio. It’s a convenient way to store your letters confidentially online, and you can just send your letter writer a link to upload their document (AAMC even mentions them on their site, so you know it’s legit). From there, it’s easy to submit the letters to amcas when you apply to med school. If you have updates and would like to update the letter, you can ask your letter writer to do so and send them a new link.
i already know my specialty that i want to go into and if i can get into med school after i finally get to start college in biology pre health soon im going into burn residency
