What hands open raise 6x preflop in a $10k tournament? Virtually none, except when an unskilled player has a premium starting hand. What premium hands make that big open, but check back *that* flop in position? Virtually none, except queens, or an unskilled player with aces or kings, who hit top set and doesn't want to scare customers. He would probably bet top pair or 2pr on that flop last to act. So already on the flop, it's super narrow, we know nearly the only possibilities are that he whiffed, perhaps flopping a gutshot with QQ, or he is unsure what to do with a complete monster AA or KK. We'll pretend he could have AK or AQ too for argument. What do all those hands do, when checked to a second time on that turn? AQ or QQ hit a straight and almost always bet. AA and KK should bet, but they should have bet the flop too; a weak player here with a set will abort their plan and check again, scared of the straight. So, he probably doesn't have a straight. We now have it narrowed down to nothing, or a set. Then, the river pairs the board. If checked to here again, he might bet a straight. But someone leads into him for a large, nearly pot size bet, on this scary board. Then, and only then, does he act aggressively, and he raises that large bet substantially. Would he do that with a straight? Never. Is it because he decided this is a good situation to bluff, after checking the whole way, or is it because he finally feels that nothing beats him or can draw out on him?

@@glitchglitcherson5372 good analysis. Also, the full houses (AT, KT, JT) that Romanello beats are extremely unlikely based on preflop action, flop action as well as the cards on the board and in Romanello’s hand. For example, since we can see the Tc, Js, Jd and Jh, JT suited is not possible for Geller.

That wasn't nitty at all. You're a nit for thinking it's nitty. He obviously had a read, and the other guy made it easy for him for emphatically refusing to show if he folded. So you know he wants action and he raised big. He has to either have A-high straight or one of the other two possible full boats that beat yours. With that board, in which the broadway would be the most obvious made hand, do you think someone would be reluctant to show the hand that anyone in that position could be assumed to have? He had to have Aces or Kings full in that situation. No one would be bluffing with that board

I'm honestly more impressed with players who can lay down monster hands than I am with some of the best pros currently playing. You just have so many factors working against you when it's time to decide to call or fold. You probably have all your instincts screaming at you to call his bluff and stay in the hand, have to show humility and accept the fact any of the other players could have gotten even luckier than you, you're probably already a few thousand into the pot which you know you're not getting back if you fold, and don't want to be humiliated on live television for folding the winning hand against a bluff. That Jacks Full laydown may have been the best I've ever seen...

The funny thing is, the JJ fold wasn’t really a good fold. There’s plenty of other full houses the opponent can have that you beat in that spot: -2 Combos of J10 -6 Combos of A10 -6 Combos of K10 You also beat hands like Q10 that have the straight but have the 10 as a FH blocker. Q10 could easily raise there. You’re only losing to: -3 Combos of KK -3 Combos of AA -1 Combo of 1010 ________ So, there’s 14 combos of FH’s that you beat, as well as Q10 and every other hand like AQ, KQ, QJ, that all have FH blockers with the straight that could easily raise on the river. Even QQ is a possibility to have and to raise the river with. So if you factor in all of those hands as well, that’s I believe 45 combos of hands that the opponent can reasonably have and raise the river. Meanwhile there’s only 7 combos of hands you’re losing to. I think this is always a call. The debate is whether you should raise or not. Because all those other FH’s you beat CAN call a 3 bet on the river. But safest play is to at least call. Anyway, I wouldn’t necessarily call it a “bad” fold, I just wouldn’t call it a “good” fold either.

First one is an angle shoot. Dwan motioned his chips forward looking at black's reaction. Also, I can't believe it's the "best read ever". Black reraised a reraise. He basically broadcast that he's got a 10 with that. And since dwan had a small kicker that didn't pair, he knew at that point he can only beat a bluff. it wasn't that great of a fold or read.

Some players have bad luck hands. I’ve folded a monster hand in certain spots. It’s a gut feeling you get from a past Deja-vu hand that played out exactly the same way. Personally, I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve been annihilated catching a full-house. Never fails, they turn over a the better boat or on few horrible occasions turned over Quads and made me absolutely sick for a week straight. It’s my bad luck hand, I’ve take too many bad beats with it. I still play it of course, but depending on the dynamics of the hand, I’m not afraid to fold it either.

I was playing at a private game once (smallish buy in of about 100 and only amateur players, we all knew each other as well) 2 tables of 7 and after getting to final table I managed to not go broke with 4 of a kind vs a Royal Flush. Tbh i dont even know if i played it right even though it worked out. OG = other guy and I was acting after him, everyone else got out the way pre-flop. Me - QC, QD OG - KH, 10H He bet and I re-raised, he called. Flop - QH, AH, 6C He checks, i bet, he calls. River - JH He checks, i bet, he calls. Turn - QS He checks, i bet, he re-raised all in, i fold. He showed me what he had so i showed him what i folded. It was a few years ago so cant remember all betting values but i lost about half of my chips. Interestingly in the same tournament on the first table i managed to stack a different guy with the same 4 queens when he had a full house. Fnished 2nd in the end.

All that beats me is 1 combo of tens, 3 combos of KK, 3 combos of AA. Maybe he knows the player or something but A10 or K10 is much more likely and could be played the same way. The pot was tiny too since they all checked the flop and turn. I'm tempted to say Romanello was just being a nit and happened to be right.
