Fun/sad fact, one of those k-28s fell of a barge and into the bay in Alaska when they were being shipped back for scrapping.

As a Pole I’m so happy seeing our Pt47 in this collation! My top 5: 1. Ty51 (as mentioned in previous videos from Poland) - the most powerful and the biggest engine ever built in Poland 2. Pm36-2 - one of two engines, the only one express passenger locomotive which survived the WWII. Maximum speed of 130 kph (81 mph), enormous wheel’s diameter, lovely charismatic engine. 3. Pt47 4. TKt48 - probably the most useful loco (apart the Ty2/42 series) with passenger, freight trains and shunting works. 5. OKz32 - often called as „Mountain’s Queen”. Locomotive designed strictly for very steep, winding lines in mountain regions in Poland. Used mainly and mostly there.

You need to get yourself back up to Scotland again and get a shot of our wee 48 @Shed47 thats up and running again. Also our newest acquisition which we have been entrusted to look after. 4WDM Simplex shunter (Motor Rail 9925 of 1963) out of use at Tomatin Distillery in 1976. This had come from the Tay Road Bridge contract where it acquired the lifting beam - for moving around the site, or out of the sea! It later moved to Prestongrange Museum.

As a resident of Southern Poland I just have to say a word about Chabówka. Very overshadowed by the Wolsztyn, Chabówka museum also have an incredible collection of steam engines with 2 of them (Ty2-911 and Ty42-107) currently operational. There is also a tank engine being overhauled being the Tkt48-191. Further on, this museum used to have even operational locos of very unique types such a Okz32-2 pre-war enormous tank engine with 2-10-2 wheel arrangement, Austrian build Tr12 and Ol12 which i think are sole survivors of their types and small industrial type Tkh49 in which i remember travelling in the cab when I was like 8. These mentioned locos are currently on static display and I don't know if there are any plans to make them operational again due to financial issues. Anyway Ty2 and Ty42 pulled the special trains all holidays long on the weekends making a great sight as the lines from Chabówka goes around the hills of southern Poland. I know they are not driving schedlued trains on the mainline, or that Chabówka hasn't got such a nice turntable and engine shed as Wolsztyn does, but the steam is still kept alive there and I hope it will be for many years to go. If you have some spare time next holiday I recommend everyone to come and see this wonderful place. Cheers! And love your videos!

@@lmm I have no idea why but yes it seems there is. Been to both this year and liked it very much. Though I have to say that after visiting Severn Valley last year, the state of steam heritage in Poland in comparison to what I remember from my childhood just makes it a bit sad. I don't know if you heard about Pyskowice too. This museum managed to bring up another Ty42 (-24 to be exact) to steam this year but unfortunatly it broke down after one or two rides and is stationary since. Both engines and sheds in Pyskowice are in very poor state.

Excellent top five Lawrie 👍 I personally like K-36 & 37 locomotives and I myself watched Making Tracks series when I was a kid. I watch the episode of the K-36 with the snowplough OY in action, that was my favourite moment in that episode of Making Tracks. I do like the Austerity saddle tanks as they’re perfect for heritage railways during preservation days and to this day. I really like how different they are because of different variety of livery’s as well some have or have not got one of the two types of brake system let alone some have both. I personally prover the 16 inch Andrew Barkley 0-4-0 saddle tanks as they’re bigger & powerful to hauled two Mk1 & Mk2 coaches on a short heritage line. I do like the Ruston 48 as they’re nice little locos. I would like to see yours on that short heritage railway that reopened a few years ago. And I really like yours visiting the K&ESR diesel gala during April to do shutting demonstration’s. My top five locomotives are as follows… 1. Bagnall 0-6-0ST No.401 2. LBSCR Class A1 No.72 Fenchurch 3. British Railways Class 03s 4. C11 Class 5. Peckett 0-4-0ST

Excellent Choice in the K-28. I have a contact at the Silverton/Durango who has provided me with some very nice research material for a 3D printed body for a 19 ton Shay. Buying the last 3x Bachmann ON30 2-8-0 outside frame Consolodated's may give you a hint at what I'm designing next.... The Chassis are as I can work out are spot on to the K-28 minus the trailing wheel under the cab. Remodel the body/tender, create new valve gear and I should have something close that is not a £3600.00 brass kit.

very cool to see your favourite engines!!! that pt-47 is an incredibly impressive class I'd rank my favourites as follows: 1. ebr dubs and co-built no.8 'heemskirk' (I've stood on her, though she wasn't in operation and was on static display at the time, but I've been on mainline excursions pulled by her and tgr m4) 2. the tgr k class, especially k1, which knowing me is unsurprising 3. the tgr cc and ccs rebuilt classes, I don't know what it is specifically about the rebuilds compared to the original c class but there's something (possibly in the case of the cc class that it's extinct) 4. the lb&scr a1 terriers, and I know why; 'stepney the bluebell engine' was my favourite railway series book as a kid 5. the gwr 5700 class (though very nearly said the 1400 class; due to my favourite film)

In no particular order a top five batch from me would be as follows: 1) Early 1900's ALCO 2-8-0's Sure Baldwin might claim to have built more Consolidations, with plenty represented in preservation. But ALCO's designs had a meaty utilitarian bent to them which always makes them impressive to see in action. From Nevada Northern 93's wild preservation history of returning to steam for the Olympics only a few years after a devastating accident, to my hometown Tooele Valley 11 being one of the orphaned Buffalo & Susquehanna engines, very few of the ALCO 2-8-0's I know have boring histories either. Just look at Southern 630, NN 93, or D&NE 28 and it is easy to see the rugged appeal of these workhorse machines. 2) UP FEF-3 A crack speed 4-8-4 that was good for both passenger service and freight, with rumors it could push up against Mallard's record when the throttle is wide open. Yes, the FEF has an appeal thanks to UP 844's work in preservation (the first steam locomotive I ever saw on the mainline); but the class had a late era refinement having the best tricks of steam without the wild experimental stuff that bogged down other designs (looking at you PRR Duplexes). Utilitarian yet refined. Advanced, but not overdone. It is a shame that with the Big Boy now the focus of UP Steam that it has been several years since 844 has last run, although I hope it returns to the high iron once the appeal of it's older and larger sibling wears off. 3) Double Fairlie A unique problem of sharp narrow gauge railroads, requiring a unique solution. These locomotives are just kind of weird, yet also had a forward thinking design mentality that would eventually find its way into steeple-cab electrics and later center-cab diesels. Furthermore the spin-off evolution from a Double Fairlie to a Mason Bogie and other unique articulated designs is highly fascinating and worth studying as well. 4) WED/RETLAW 4-4-0's Is it a bit over-played to be a fan of the Disneyland Railroad trains? Perhaps, but the "Tender seat" in C.K. Holliday was my first "cab ride" in a living steam locomotive while on a Disneyland vacation as a kid. While the 1955 new builds might not have the history of the other three engines on the line, or the four Baldwins in the Florida park; considering how many children and families in the US have their first experience behind real living steam in Disneyland makes me give the engines a pass for being a literal "Mickey Mouse" operation. Very essential in being a gateway drug to steam trains in a way that few other locomotives can rival. 5) SD40-2 A boxy utilitarian machine, yet arguably the zenith of EMD as a diesel locomotive builder. Sure no SD40-2 is going to win beauty contest looks, but they represent a refined utilitarian design which could always get the job done, and spawned several successors such as the SD60 and SD70 which further refined EMD's design. There are faster, prettier and more romantic locomotives; but an SD40-2 is like the pick-up truck that refuses to die and just can do the work it needs to day in and out.

My personal favourite steam locomotive is the humble GWR Pannier tank locomotives (all types) there are loads of things about them I like being a locomotive that can do freight, passenger and run auto train coaches depending on if it has the the auto train mechanism fitted. Continental locomotives i do like the Shays with the incredible and interesting drive mechanism. Diesel wise anything diesel hydraulic for express diesel locomotives and like you I do like the little and slightly larger Rustons.

Interesting and nice to see some small engines getting the spotlight. My very first footplate ride was at a heritage train for kids event by my local society (basically thomas without the copyright), and on a little tank engine theyved dubbed the turtle. A classy red Hudswell & Clarke (#498) 0-4-0 saddle tank built in 1899 for a gas works in Copenhagen, and is one of the only saddle tank locomotives to have ever worked in Denmark as weld tanks were more popular here. Its currently awaiting boiler repairs and since the society that owns it doesnt own its own line, it basically has no other use than shunting around the station yard theyre based at during events, and light footplate rides or carrying a single carriage on what little bit of track they have themselves. The society also used to have a Ruston 48 that was used on a private goods yard in Copenhagen, but it was traded with the national railway museum in a deal on 2017 that exchanged a fair chunk of rolling stock.

The DRGW K28s and K36s appeared in multiple train videos I saw as a kid. I always wanted to visit them at the Durango And Silverton, which I did in 2017. I'd love to go back and ride behind one on matching DRGW passenger cars on old DRGW right-of-way I also grew up seeing pictures and videos of the Austerity tanks, particularly "Wilbert" Rev. W. Awdry which was sold as Thomas toys after appearing in one of Christopher's books. Their simplicity makes them look older than they actually are. Your Ruston 48DS locomotives prove just how little power British rail operations needed. The smallest standard gauge diesel in America was 25 tons and 150 horsepower, which is big compared to 7.5 tons and 48 horsepower of a Ruston. Another favorite locomotive of mine are the West Side Lumber Co 3-truck Shays. I also grew up seeing videos of them on the Georgetown Loop Railraod and managed to ride behind number 9 in 2013, the first real steam engine I got to ride behind. Others are Union Pacific 844, General Electric C44-9W, ALCO PA1, ALCO RS3, EMD GP9, and L&N 152

    1. NCC WT class number 4- just like as TS Eliot said this is the way the world ends not with a bang but a whimper. She ended regular service UK steam in 1970. 2. 071 the peak of Irish diesel locomotives. 3. BR class 37 like the routemaster, 747 and S61 they often outlived their successors. 4. DSER 461 the last surviving main line inside cylinder 2-6-0 in the islands of Ireland and Britain 5. GNRI V class number 85 Merlin a great example of a successful compound and defeated the then contemporary enterprise.

Interesting choices. By the way. How long did it take the AA to deliver the mini from South Mimms? I would guess about 1 week. My choices would be (in no particular order) A4 Pacific, Coronation Class, The Big Boy, Black 5 and the class 91

Please come to Green Bay Wisconsin and the National Railroad Museum because we have 5 favorite locomotives 🚂: as follows: U.P. 4017 BIG BOY 4-8-8-4 stored inside and available all year long except for CHRISTMAS 🎄 😉. Next to 4017 is parkedto the North, B.R.& LNER 60008 A4 GRESLEY PACIFIC "EISENHOWER". Also to South is PENNSYLVANIA 4690 GG-1 ART DECO 1934 ELECTRIC SPEEDSTER!! Then, in the McCormick Pavillion is the 1956 G.M. FUTURISTIC "AEROTRAIN-2", that was just 1 of the several Experimental trains that was supposed to save American passenger trains from the governments onslaught with airplanes and highways, but most of these trains were failures, yet AEROTRAINS 2 AND 3 were bought by Rock Island rr for commuters in Chicago West to Joliet that went only to 1966 until both were donated to Green Bay, and Saint Louis, then G.B. s' NRRM Founders still used the 2 Aero coaches for rides around the small circular track and pulled by the even smaller 20 ton Plymouth 702 gas mechanical from the power plant to switch coal cars until 1963 along with another Plymouth 20t outside frame 0518 but that was Scrapped in 1984 by the new managers who also Scrapped another larger centercab Plymouth named "MIGHTY MITE" from a family run shortline in Missouri who donated it in 1961 and running here for only a short time until it broke. Sadly they also Scrapped the Steam CRANE from the Appleton Paper mill. Along with the Pickle car with 4 large wooden barrels. And selling some others. Thus losing 13 pieces until they were fired 🔥 in 1986. The NRRM was back in charge and hired a new professional director from Chicago who worked hard to undo the damage. And allowed the h.o. model railroad club inside HOOD JUNCTION DEPOT. And encouraged volunteers again. Yet the Early Founders were passing away in the late 1980s, who were replaced again by some of those bad managers who continued again to sell and Scrap items like the small ALCO 25 0-4-0T from the local sugar beet processor and this was Truly the only steamer of 13 that Truly worked in Green Bay Region; and sold to a train collector in Upper Michigan. Yet later He sold it to a farm threshing show who repaired it and run around their larger loop at the farm grounds!! 702 mentioned before broke in 1987 but the retired mechanic who fixed it was suddenly fired!!! Then 702 just sat in pieces until 1997 when it was also Scrapped by yet another new director. Clearing the way for yet more more managers who don't have any railroad experience whatsoever , and they each bring in new plans that never get built....and worse even ripped out the previous plans....The worst case of this is the 2008 forced Eviction of the h.o. model rr club in the DEPOT, with open threats of trespassing and arrest within 90 days!!!!! This is well documented in the newspaper article. Other volunteers were also harassed. With; the volunteers restoring the Lima SHAY 5 NARROW guage had disassembled Shay 5 and started sandblasting for new primer and paint 🎨; but Shay 5 was put outside with spots of yellow paint with the old boiler sitting outside on the open frame. Only in 2001 was the Shay craned on a flatcar. And parked in the McCormick Pavillion on Track 4. Thus sitting inside. Yet some pieces are still left out and scattered haphazardly. Sadly now covered with 22 Years of heavy dust!!! All of you can see photos on the NRRM Facebook page. And videos on Y.T. submitted by visitors. But NRRM Founders wanted to get many historic trains and were nearly at 100 pieces, that is a Grand and Noble Goal!! Yet the many different managers lost 37 trains!! Recently in 2009 that manager lost 7 Diesels, with: Milw.Rd 38A-E-9-A-M EMD 1961 from the Chicago commuter system. EMD BL2 56 AND 52 from Main that were later used on the W.I.C.T. Shortline. And arrived at NRRM in July 2001. Yet in 2009 shipped east to New York for full repairs and new blue paint for excursions but it went bancrupt. Then sold to Ohio for their excursions. And the 3 classic EMD F7A-B-A set of 1950s Streamliners, also from W.I C.T. There were real plans to rebuild these for trips like the Green Bay Packers football 🏈 team going South to the Chicago 🐻 Bears. But instead they are now at a northern shortline but only sitting outside in the severe winter blizzards for the past 14 Years!!!!! Sadly another diesel at NRRM is still sitting in the snow...with G.B.&W. RR. 315 ALCO C-430 , especially unique ad one of the very last diesel engines built in Schnectady until ALCO went bancrupt in 1969; thus 315 was brand new, yet were rebuilt with older parts!! Running until it broke in 1987 and donated in new red paint. Sadly sitting out for 36 years and looking much worse because of severe weather conditions and rust and the faded to pink paint. Please help ok!! Wed.dec.20.2023A.D.
