I had a glass coffee carafe/press that the glass cracked. The screen and rod fit my Staley Adventure cup perfectly. Since I already carry the cup, its a win/win.

If someone forced me to give up my AeroPress, I'd probably go for the UL Drip or the Rocket, if they turned out better than my Stanley Cook + Brew (my backup backup after 2 APs). Another great video to enjoy my morning coffee to...thanks, Ernie!

I purchased the Java drip for hiking the CDT starting this Apr 2023 but I don’t really like it. It’s because it’s all “hanging in the air”. My favorite is the GSI Coffee Rocket. I’ve got both. I’ll start with the Java drip but will keep the Coffee Rocket in my bounce box. May end up changing. So I’m covered!! Good coffee all the way to Canada!!!! 😎😎 Thanks for the vid. Good to see you are coming back to YT.PS I’ve got that GSI coffee cup also. Light n had measurements that are so handy on the trail.

That ultra light drip maker looks perfect. What is the material? It looks more like a cloth, which explains why you don't need a filter.

Great vid. coffee coffee coffee. I have the coffee rocket and love it. But for winter in upstate ny the cold air will diminish the temp. Have used aluminum foil under the drip to keep the coffee in the cup covered to retain heat and cover the reservoir to also retain heat. PAIN. Do you think the collapsible java drip would keep the coffee brewing process hotter in 10 degrees if I covered the filter area with the lid?

So I am stuck in a hotel room with hotel coffee until my mission ends for the Guard (love being a medic but you are the first one called up when shit hits the fan). Not good. So I ordered that GSI Drip coffee thing on your recommendation. With some Bushcraft Coffee (yes I am plugging them because it is outstanding coffee and a great bunch of guys) the hotel is way better. Thank you for the recommendation for this thing. I appreciate it. Happy trails.

Hey Doc, something just occurred to me. Background-i make cold coffee as a shake with instant n add cream. I just thought of dripping cold water thru coffee with the Java Drip and than add the cream. Shake it up as usual and wala! I wonder with the water cold would one have Caffiene in the liquid still??

Just use a tea infuser. Perfect, light small and above all else it works !

  • @seamus-xi7hz

An infuser works well; also DIY " coffee bags " made by placing a approximately a tablespoon of ground coffee into a paper coffee filtre, and tying it off with a bit of unwaxed dental floss makes a very useful, and economical " coffee bag " which can then be used like any commercially made " tea bag ".

As users of public lands, it is our responsibility to try to leave as small a footprint as possible. This includes following Leave No Trace principals. While coffee is biodegradable, it should be packed out. Not only is it a best practice, but it's rule pretty much everywhere. If you're not sure, you can contact the local ranger station or trail organization. I hope this helps. Cheers

I use a tall tea ball you poor boiling water over it in your pot or your cup...your water will get dark before the coffee's ready... don't be fooled thinking your coffee is ready before it is...I would steep your coffee grounds for around 5 minutes...you can taste it and see if it is ready to your taste at 5 minutes or if you need to steep it a little longer...a tall tea ball is ultralight light and it will make you a tasty cup of coffee..

You might be old if you think explaining how a Coffee Peculator functions is a comedy routine. Then realize it's not!!! Because there are snot noses out there that drink coffee who have never used a peculator. SMH. At first I was like "He's joking about explaining how a coffee peculator works, right?" LOL MY BAD! This is kin to teaching someone how to dial a rotary phone. [me: man showing his age]

Please, do not LITTER your coffee grounds. Just because something is biodegradable does not mean you should dump it. Unless it is native to the area, leaving coffee grounds, peanut shells, sunflower seed husks, etc. is illegal and does not follow leave no trace ethics.
